"Well, what can I say?"
Church View in Rye is an amazing and quirky cottage. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to return next year. I was awed by the tiny front door and low black beams. It certainly had mounds of character. The diamond leaded windows looked original as some were bowed. We were all warm enough during our stay in November and the shower was excellent. The cottage had almost everything I needed during my stay. I noticed there was no slotted spoon so I got one to add to the drawer. I actually made poached egg and a slotted spoon was needed so that I didn’t get water on my toast. The cafes in Rye are abundant and all those we tried were excellent. There are also many independent shops who were happy to accept cash. There only one cafe who was card only so did not get our custom. Most unusually almost all the cafes stocked rooibos tea which is my favourite. The cottage had ample tea bags, coffee and sugar along with enough toilet roll for most of our stay and plenty of cleaning products. All the bed linen and towels were scrupulously clean and fresh. The beds were extremely comfortable and I slept well during my stay. The church bells were a delightful sound and did not disturb my sleep at all. I found it quite amusing having people stop and stare in the windows. The cottage is so attractive on the outside that many take photos of someone standing in front of the tiny door. I made sure to give them a manic wave as they went by. The Saturday was especially busy and my disabled friend was alone in the cottage. He said people put their noses on the window and peered in. My daughter arrived and wanted to breastfeed her baby in private so I came prepared. I brought some lightweight polyester fabric and pegs and covered the main window with a delightful picture of psychedelic mushrooms. Surprisingly they didn’t want photos of magic mushrooms so the visits to the window lessened. The kitchen window had the mobility scooter parked in front so the window could not be accessed to peer in closely. We all had a terrific stay and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates a bit of history. I envisioned many people having lived and loved in that cottage. It was truly an amazing place. So magical and quaint. I’m grateful to having had the opportunity to stay there. I stayed for six days and brought a friend for the first two days. She loved the place too and is shorter than me so didn’t bump her head at all. Then my partner and disabled neighbour stayed for two days. The cobbled street was a challenge for the mobility scooter but we managed. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, I say. The age range of who stayed was between 5 months and 71 years. Even the 71 year old man in his mobility scooter managed the stairs right to the top. He made sure to come down backwards and take ok his time. I wouldn’t want to walk on those floors if I was drunk as they lilt. It was a strange feeling but we soon got used to it. All in all, Church View offered everything I hoped for: warmth, comfort, history, character, and a good dose of humour. It is a cottage that seems to welcome every generation, every quirk, and every story that enters through its tiny door. I am grateful for the memories made there and I look forward to returning next year to create many more. Miranda

"The house was smaller and darker than expected but full of character."
The facilities - kitchen and bathroom - were excellent and the beds very comfortable. The position of the house in Rye was ideal for us as everything was in walking distance, the only downside was the number of tourists peering into the house as they admired the row of houses in Church Square. There was also a constant flow of delivery vans using the road outside the house despite it being a pedestrian area and non stop taxis at the house next door as it offers short term accommodation. The information folder needs updating as parking is now £6.70 a day at the Cawnpore car park and the recycling dates are 2 years out of date so the previous occupants and us missed the correct dates. The yard out the back was not as expected and very disappointing as it was only 6 feet square and could not be used to sit out - we used the churchyard seats instead. This should be clearer in the description of the house. Despite the comments above we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the property for a stay in Rye and for visiting the surrounding area.
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Rye is a very popular tourist destination and especially so in and around Church Square. Our row of cottages does gain a lot of attention due to its age and history and being in a very desirable area. Our cottage is very lucky to have any outside space as the majority do not. We have chosen to place a small table and chairs there so you can enjoy your morning coffee or evening drink outside in private and in pleasant weather. With regards to the bin collections and car parking this remains unchanged but we have reprinted the details with current dates. The parking we always recommended is at the Cattle Market at £2.50 per day. Property Owner

"It is a lovely well-appointed cottage in a great location."
We have no complaints about the cottage itself (besides a shortage of toilet tissue). And we have enjoyed Rye very much indeed. A gem. But if we had known the house next door was under construction and we would be awakened early each morning by banging and drilling and vehicles in the street, we certainly would found a different location. One morning the noise was deafening. Drilling, I suppose. And we had guests that night. Embarrassing. If not for our guests we may have left early. This has certainly continued for the next guests btw. Are the owners really unaware? Seems unlikely. Four noisy early morning wake-ups and work throughout the days really put a damper on what should have been a relaxing (and not inexpensive) 4 day vacation in this idyllic village.
We are pleased you liked our cottage and the beautiful town of Rye. We are very sorry to hear your stay was disturbed by the neighbours building works. We were led to believe the work had been completed for the time being. We will certainly be discussing this further with them. Property Owner

"Fabulous stay thanks."
2 small things re WhatsApp please get a proper ironing board the one in the cottage is absolutely useless. Half size and used on the table top or kitchen worktop it slides all over the place TV is the size of a monitor and the sound is shocking. 2 tiny things to make it perfect Many thanks Colin

"A superb cottage in the heart of old Rye within walking distance of pubs, restaurants and shops."
The only reason that we haven't given it a big smile across the board is that when we got there there was no hot water. Fortunately we discovered that the shower did work independently of the hot water system as opposed to what was stated in the information pack. Despite this problem we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. I’m sorry the hot water was not working for some of your stay. We had a plumber in the week before to fix it but obviously that hadn’t sorted the problem. (The hot water heater just effects the kitchen and bathroom tap) After we had been informed the hot water was not working by yourselves, we contacted our plumber who kindly managed to source and fit a new hot water heater within the week, before your stay ended. We are pleased that this didn’t cause too much inconvenience. Thanks again. Property Owner

"A unique and charming property to stay in."
So historic that we had tourists regularly photographing the house. Of course this comes with some small issues e.g. steep staircases and sloping floors. We also knew in advance that parking not available at the property but instructions to use Cattle Market car park were clearly available (and that in itself is a pretty unique facility at only £2.50 for 24 hours).
Thank you for the lovely feedback. We hope to welcome you again soon. Property Owner

"We had a perfect 3 week holiday in a perfect house, Church View, in a perfect town, Rye E."
Sussex. The kitchen and bathroom have modern, contemporary fittings and equipment. The kitchen was generously supplied with utensils and food staples. There was more than enough thick and luxurious towels. The owners provided an extra cleaning mid way through our stay at no cost. Church View is small and fairly presented in the photos and is sufficient for two adults. The main bedroom had a comfortable bed and enough storage. As advertised, stairs to upper levels are steep, with narrow steps; care must be taken when descending. The top floor bedroom with twin beds is a bonus but 4 people in the house would be crowded. Units on both sides of Church View are short term rentals. We heard noise and conversations clearly from both sides. The owners agreed to intervene if we had made a complaint. The single dining table should have four smaller chairs that fit better around the table; we entertained several friends for meals and it was difficult to fit everyone in. Overall, Church View was delightful and is highly recommended. Teresa and Victor, Kingston Ontario Canada

Lovely cottage in a fabulous location Bit of a problem with water leakages but thanks to the fantastic staff this has all been sorted
We are pleased you loved our cottage. Unfortunately your stay coincided with storm Ciaran causing heavy rain and winds of up to 100mph. Although our 15th century cottage is extremely well maintained the high winds caused a minor leak to the fireplace. Hopefully this didn’t cause to much inconvenience. Property Owner

"Lovely characterful cottage in excellent location."
Have to get used to passers-by staring in the windows as they admire the 14th century property. The stairs to the bedrooms are steep and there are low beams, so need to be careful with night-time visits to the downstairs toilet. We really enjoyed our stay and it was such a privilege to step back in time but with all the well equipped quality modern facilities.
We are so please you enjoyed staying in our quirky cottage. Church Square is such a beautifully historic area of Rye that people can’t resist having a good look and taking lots of photos. Thank you for your kind feedback. We hope to welcome you again soon. Property Owner

Everything was of a high standard. Beds were extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. Great location in a quiet lane Town shops and cafes were all within a couple of minutes walk.

"A wonderful and comfortable property and we loved it."
The location couldn’t be any better. The standard of the fixtures, fittings, linen, towels, shower-room and kitchen appliances made a real difference and it didn’t feel like a property rental. The small outside space (although not mentioned in the description) was a little outside haven for evening drinks. We will definitely be back, can’t say enough nice things about it!
Thank you so much for the amazing feedback. We are so pleased that you liked our cottage. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Property Owner

RYE
Camber 5 miles; Hastings 12 miles; Battle 16 miles.
Rye is a 13th century cinque port in East Sussex, host to the River Rother, Romney Marshes and a history dating back before the Norman Conquest. A cobbled town offering an excellent array of unusual shops, antique emporiums, galleries selling local artist paintings and pottery, Rye also has a delightful range of tea rooms, restaurants, pubs and historic inns. There is also a weekly general market on Thursdays, as well as a farmers’ market every Wednesday morning. The town played host to BBC film crews for nine weeks in the summer of 2014, while filming of the TV series Mapp and Lucia took place, which has now been made into a DVD. All coastal scenes were filmed in nearby Camber Sands and bits of filming also took place in Hastings and the Tenterden Town railway station. Walkers and birdwatchers can enjoy a footpath leading across the marshes to Camber Castle built by Henry VIII. Local attractions include miniature or full-size steam train rides, local vineyards, stately homes, castles, gardens and beaches, including the beautiful nearby Camber Sands. Artists and photographers will especially enjoy the scenery; big skies, winding roads, and picturesque villages with ancient inns and tea shops. A truly relaxing and wonderful holiday destination.
