  • "We really enjoyed our stay here."

Ideally located for Keswick, Borrowdale and the Newlands Valley and only 2 minutes walk from the local pub. The house was warm and generally well equipped. There were no litter bins in the bedrooms, just a small bin in the bathroom. A hand towel in the kitchen and in the downstairs WC would be a useful touch. The shower door needs new seals as some water runs down the inside out onto the floor. Electric vehicle charging is challenging in Keswick with Booths car park having about the only rapid chargers so just a suggestion for the future, an EV charging point at the front of the property may be a good USP as demand for charging increases.

  • "This was our 3rd stay at Pooley Howe and overall a great location and a great enclosed garden for the dog."

But it's beginning to feel a little tired and needs a bit of TLC. Nothing major, but the kitchen needs a revamp, seal around the exterior doors are failing, some of the paint is peeling from the walls where there are small areas of damp and the sofas in the lounge are becoming a little uncomfortable. We also had no terrestrial TV for the week even though we reported it to Lakelovers on our day of arrival. Luckily we could get by on internet TV but not everyone would have been able to work that out.

Hello there We’re really sorry your stay wasn’t as you expected, and thanks for the feedback. We agree, the house was due a bit of TLC. We've just been up in January, fixed the leak that cause the damp patch and re-painted house top to bottom. We've have had the seals replaced on the doors. We've replaced the uncomfy sofa (it was a purchase through COVID, when you had to buy as seen online). We’ve had a chap sort the terrestrial channels - the freesat signal was playing up from the dish. This is now fixed. Again our apologies for the impact this has had on your holiday. We would be happy to offer you a discount on any future booking if you get in touch Kind Regards Tom&Steph Property Owner

  • "Visted 3 years ago."

this visit, House was very clean as expected. Couple of things we would like to mention. Towels were so scratchy, ok for exfoliating but not nice for drying after a bath, a couple of minutes in the tumble dryer would sort. Bath, flooded the patio on emptying, this was an issues 3 years ago which we alerted then to so still not rectified. Welcome pack would be nice, have had with previous holiday lets and as this house is on the upper side price wise, we feel this could be offered. Sofas could be more comfortable, too fancy and not enough comfort Definately a lovely house if issues addressed

Hi there Paul I’m really sorry your stay at Pooley Howe wasn’t as good as it could have been. Thank you for the feedback - we haven’t been up there recently ourselves - will get the towels swapped out. The drain unfortunately is something that needs to be cleared periodically, will do that too. The sofas we had to buy during covid, when we couldn’t go and try them out. Lesson learned there. Looks over comfort is a fair criticism. By way of an apology, if you would like to book the house again, we would be willing to offer you a 10% discount on your booking. Again, our apologies, Tom&Steph; Property Owner

  • "Really well maintained property."

Was our second visit to the cottage will be booking again for next year. The property is situated brilliantly for a peaceful holiday and with plenty of walks for our spaniel. The local pub is great as well very welcoming. The only thing I'd say is it could do with an air fryer but that's a personal thing.

  • "We had an absolutely wonderful holiday at Pooley Howe and would definitely return and would recommend it to family and friends."

The garden was lovely- really well maintained with multiple seating options as the sun moved round. It was safe and secure for our dog. Despite a previous review making us nervous about how clean the property would be, we were happy with the cleanliness of the house when we arrived and had no concerns. The house is in a great location for walks around Derwent and into Keswick, so we didn’t need to worry about parking. All beds were used and all were very comfortable. We all slept very well during our stay. It’s a quiet area with no outside noise. We enjoyed the log burner in the lounge. We agree that the sofas were not massively comfortable for lounging on, but there was plenty of space for four adults. We would have welcomed blankets to snuggle under, but recognize that that would mean more laundry. On the one day we put the heating on the rooms heated up very quickly. The kitchen was pretty well stocked, but small if we were all in there. We would have liked a plastic/ Pyrex type jug for putting in the microwave - if there was one we didn’t spot it, and maybe a step stool for reaching the top cupboards as none of us could reach without a stretch- which makes you worried you might drop and break something. The dishwasher tablet drawer in the machine was a bit temperamental- it didn’t always close and took a bit of wiggling to make it work. This might be worth looking at, at some point. We took our own pod coffee maker as there was nothing like this in the property. I don’t remember seeing a cafetière in the kitchen, so bear this in mind if you are a coffee drinker. There was always loads of hot water and the shower was powerful and hot- which was really welcome after daily long walks. We had a really lovely holiday and would definitely be happy to return.

  • "On arrival to find a bottle of anti-bac cleaner and a cloth was odd."

..obviously for me to clean the parts that the cleaner had missed!. Doors and handles filthy, skirting boards dusty, windows covered in squashed flies and need a good clean inside and out. Sofas were very uncomfortable. Suggestions: blinds for the kitchen and bathroom windows for privacy and heat wise in the kitchen in the evening sun. Parasol/brolly for the patio table. Washing line/rotary for garden. Costs of properties in the Lakes are premium rates now and starting to price themselves out of the market. For the price paid I expect a higher standard.

  • "Great property."

Only a very small thing but could have done with an extra frying pan / griddle pan. Also just so owner is aware there appears to be a blockage in the drain for the shower which is draining very slowly. Also to the rear there was foam water appearing in the garden from what appears to be a broken pipe whenever we emptied the kitchen sink or bath. Once again - a great property!!

Thanks for the feedback Dave, will get another pan sorted. Thanks for letting us know about drain blockage too, will get on to that straight away. We hope you enjoyed your stay, all the best, Tom & Steph Property Owner

Generally let down by the cleaning particularly in the kitchen (we found crockery items that were not clean, kitchen cupboards and freezer had not been cleaned, and we observed dust and cobwebs in some rooms etc).
