  • "We absolutely loved staying at Grisedale Cottage."

It doesn't have the most up to date interior but it is so comfortable and warm that it made it hard to leave! The owners have thought of everything you need for a short stay and we'd love to go back. The location is beautiful and you can easily start a day's walk from the door. It's quite remote but the pub is within walking distance and a village just down the road you have everything you need.

  • "We love Grisedale Cottage - this was our third successive year since we first found it!"

It is in a wonderful spot, quiet and with walks in every direction. For a walking holiday in the heart of the Lakes, it is hard to beat. Grisedale Cottage is warm and comfortable, and we like the way it has been modernised while retaining the feel of the structure of the building. We were 6 altogether for several days, and there is plenty of space and bathroom/shower facilities for that number. We hope to be back!

  • "Another fantastic stay in our favourite Lakes cottage."

The property was very clean & tidy as always and very well equipped. Just one wish would be going back to providing towels as having to bring these for all the family adds a lot to the luggage. Thanks for another great week.

  • "The one double bedroom opposite the bathroom desperately needs a new mattress to ensure a good nights sleep."

Also when I lifted the bottom sheet there was some loose clippings possibly from the dried leaves in the dish on the window sill. I had to ring the manager of the home as I could not open the window as I didn’t want to force it, it looked newly painted so I thought I would ring for help and I must say she was rather abrupt. Otherwise the cottage was perfect.

  • "The location was fabulous."

Lots of walks on the doorstep. Very peaceful apart from a rude awaken at 5.30am one morning by visitors at the outdoor activity centre next door. The garden is fenced but is not secure enough to prevent a dog escaping. The accommodation is comfortable even if the decor is a little dated. The oven and hob were also dated and slow to heat. A dishwasher would have been helpful. Wi-Fi was good. But overall we have a lovely stay and would book again.

  • "Lovely spacious cottage in fantasic location."

Had all we needed for a great stay. Other than mastering the control of the storage heaters (for which, to be fair, we were too lazy to follow the instructions) we wouldn't change a thing. Loved sitting in the bay window reading and watching the birds outside (and the rain on the window!). Maybe a small welcome pack with tea bags and milk would be nice, but we came prepared so were fine without. Great to have books and games, Torch also came in handy as there was a short power cut when storm Noah came through! Would like to stay again.

  • "Given that it was freezing temperatures upon our arrival, it would have been very welcomed for the cottage to have its heating on and a bag of fuel for the fire provided."

Thank goodness for extra blankets! The advert needs to state provide your own fuel. The washing up liquid and tea towels were a lovely surprise given it is post COVID and we had to take our own towels. Bit confused by that but still great they were there. Shame insufficient toilet rolls were not provided. Again, make it clear what is needed to be brought. Finally, our stay was just before Christmas yet there were no decorations whatsoever. It could have made the cottage so magical given it's amazing location.

Didn't give full marks for comfort only because: a) 2 upstairs bathrooms would have been perfect b) 2 of us banged our heads on the extractor fan, getting bread out of the bread bin! I think we will be back! Thank you.

  • "Really good property and we would certainly go again."

A couple of areas for improvement: Weather is often damp in the lakes and things are difficult to dry. A combined washer dryer (there is currently no dryer) would be a significant improvement Garden is enclosed. However, fence is not good enough to keep in a dog or small children. Improved fencing would be good.

The cottage is lovely, and the location wonderful when you are looking for somewhere peaceful and quiet, yet with a bit of life in the form of youngsters coming and going to the adventure centre close by. It is off the beaten track, hence the peace, with walks in all directions - wonderful! We hope to be back, all being well, in 2023!

  • "The cottage was very homely and comfortable with just about everything we needed."

There were 6 of us and 2 dogs and plenty of space to be comfortable in every room, for eating, watching tv etc. The location was great with lots of walking accessible from the house, and a fab local pub nearby serving lovely food. The only area which let it down was a lack of shower towels - there was bed linen and kitchen towels provided, so there is obviously a laundry service. This has been remarked upon by several guests previously and really ought to be addressed. Also, a dishwasher would be a good addition. Would recommend this cottage.

  • "This is a lovely cottage in a delightful quiet setting, with walks in all directions."

It is well equipped - it felt lived in, and we are sure the owners must use it regularly. It is spacious, and we lacked nothing - it exceeded our expectations. We found that walking up the road/lane to Skelgill was the best way to get to Derwentwater and the Allerdale Ramble: no traffic and an easy walk. We did the Newlands Circuit; Causey Pike; and cottage - Skelgill - Hawes End on Derwentwater - Grange - Rosthwaite and back. Wonderful walks, happy memories! We some comment about running out of hot water, but had no problem there, as there is a bathroom and shower room, each with an excellent electric shower. In summary, we were smitten and hope to be back! (And just to be clear, we have no connection to the owners - we are grateful to them for making their lovely cottage available to others to enjoy.)

  • "There was never enough hot water."

Even with the “boost” button on the immersion heater the hot water was barely enough for one decent bath. After a day walking the fells everyone in the party wanted to relax in a hot bath. This was a big disappointment.

  • "The cottage itself was lovely, with a secure garden that our spaniel enjoyed safely exploring."

However, the storage heaters had been off which, combined with the unexpected cold weather (thick snow on the peaks), made for a chilly first night. There was only one small cupboard in the kitchen which was not already full of things for us to keep food in. The email we had with the final cottage details, plus the description on the website (now altered, I note), stated that towels were provided. When we turned up there were no towels. After a chat with the very nice lady in charge, we established that the cottage never had towels and the description was wrong. Fortunately we were able to buy the last couple of towels in Cockermouth Sainsbury's that night. Finally your email stated that checkout was at 10am but the instructions in the cottage stated 9am. We erred on the side of caution and vacated by 9. Overall, a lovely cottage in a beautiful location - the photographs really do it justice - only let down by the letting agency's inaccurate emails and website details.
