  • "We found Beckside to have everything we needed."

    It was in a perfect position, the garden was beautiful and the views were great. The shower head in the shower room does not stay up so it has to be used as a hand-held if you don't want it in your face / on your hair (if propped up behind the upright). Please fix this!

  • "Excellent, clean and comfortable accommodation."

    Myself and two old school friends thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay. It was the ideal location to launch our weekend of fell walking from and a pleasure to return to after a hard day in the hills. Great utility room ideal for removing and drying soggy waterproofs and boots. Clean, well equipped kitchen, ample parking and very comfortable beds (we all got a great night's sleep on both nights). One of the touch lamps in the twin room was not functioning but other than that it was all good. Very clear instruction booklet, comfortable lounge and a nice quiet location away from hustle and bustle of central Ambleside. Thank you for a great stay. Hope to be back again.

  • "Great location right in the centre of Ambleside but lovely quiet location."

    Good sized kitchen and two bathrooms is great, big utility room if need to dry any clothes or do any washing. Sadly didn’t get to use the outdoor furniture as the weather was bad but there are two seating areas. Only criticism is the parking instructions weren’t very clear and we parked next to each other (not blocking the driveway as instructed) but the neighbour came and asked us to move the car, clearly not the first people he’s had to ask to move their car as he wasn’t best pleased so clearer instructions or maybe a picture of how to park would be better. Would highly recommend the cottage and would happily stay again.

  • "Lovely property with great views from the outdoor seating area."

    It is well furnished, plenty of space for 6, and the kitchen was very well stocked. Tandem parking on the drive is big enough for two vehicles. Walk to town was 5 mins and to the lake at Waterhead c15 mins. Lots of thought has gone into making this a really nice and comfortable place to stay and we enjoyed our stay very much.

  • "We had a great week at the cottage."

    Everything is top quality, beds are so comfortable and we had everything we needed. So nice to have outdoor space for a nice cuppa while reading. Super close to the town centre yet very quiet around the cottage. We will be back!

  • "May 2026 Brilliant location."

    Really comfortable beds and good to have the option of a relaxing bath as well as a shower. Great views from the patio particularly in the early evening. So close to town yet quiet and peaceful We had a very enjoyable stay Worth noting it worked well for a guest with mobility issues

    Lovely property, beautifully maintained and lovely and clean. Thanks also for introducing us to Cumbrian Tea with such a generous pack! If I had to offer one improvement, it would be for the bedroom drawers to be hoovered out. But that’s it, because it was a lovely place to stay and everything else was spot on. Many thanks

  • "Beckside is a lovely bungalow, spotlessly maintained and very well equipped."

    After long days out and about in the Lakes it was a pleasure to get back and enjoy the home comforts. Anyone with mobility issues might find the climb up the steep hill to Beckside a challenge. We did request a cot and high chair for the two year old in our party and whilst the cot was provided unfortunately there was no high chair. The only negative point was the glass coffee table in the lounge, which for was a hazard due to having a toddler with us.

There is a brand new high chair available at the property and we left express instructions with the cleaner before your visit to provide it for you.   • "Lovely property a convenient short walk from Ambleside (it is uphill on the way back)."

    Wonderful views. Lots of lovely walks from Ambleside too and convenient for buses. Good parking for 2 cars and on the flat. Garden path gets very slippy when wet, might benefit from a pressure wash. Property was very clean, well maintained and decorated to a good standard. Main bedroom had lots of storage however the second double room had very little. As the twin room is slightly larger it may be better to put the double in there with some storage? Kitchen is quite small and the table takes a lot of space, lovely utility area. Very pleasant terrace to sit on and enjoy the view. Would recommend.

  • "Beckside was a lovely holiday let everything you could wish for."

    The only thing that would stop us coming back is the sofas. After a long day in the hills you want to get back and relax but they were the most uncomfortable sofas. The glass table in the living room probably isn't the best idea either.

The property

Beckside is an ideally situated cottage in a delightful, quiet location just a few short minutes from the centre of Ambleside.

Offering elevated views over surrounding fells in the heart of the Lake District National Park, this family-friendly retreat boasts excellent off-road parking for two cars, making it an ideal getaway for families or groups of friends.

In only a few minutes (downhill) walk you find yourself in the centre of Ambleside, spoilt for choice with an array of boutique shops, bars, restaurants, attractions and 3 cinemas, though please be aware it is uphill back up to the property.

A short walk will take you to Waterhead on Lake Windermere where you can hire a boat, enjoy a selection of lake cruises or just sit and admire the scenery with a picnic.

The property is accessed via a pathway through a lovely, private front garden/patio area, upon entering the single-storey abode via two steps, you will be greeted by a spacious kitchen/diner, well-equipped with all the essentials for a self-catering stay.

In addition, there is a handy utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, perfect for those longer stays.

The heart of the home is undoubtedly the sitting room, boasting a Smart TV and a warming wood burning stove, ideal for those intimate nights in, from here, views out to a patio area can be enjoyed, providing a calming backdrop for your stay.

For a quiet moment to yourself, retreat to the conservatory with a good book and a cup of tea, whilst admiring the surrounding views.

When you're ready to explore further, consider a visit to the National Trust - Wray, a castle with impressive Gothic Revival interiors and enchanting gardens, alternatively, catch a lake cruise from nearby Waterhead down to Bowness-on- Windermere or take a trip to Rydal Water and Cave, offering unforgettable views and adventure in each direction.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside with its numerous shops makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips, and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and the lakeside at Waterhead with parkland offering lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach. A walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
