Bare minimum cutlery. NO information on sorting waste, bin collection etc. Excellent location, good size garden. Proper information regarding key safe on first arrival would be good. For anyone who didn't know, opening the side gate to gain access may be a quandary.

A beautiful location. The property is lovely but lacks that personal touch of many of the other Sykes properties. Truly self catering, there are no condiments or toiletries if you forget to bring your own, unlike other places we've stayed. The garden is the draw for us as we have two dogs. Would love to see someone take a bit more care of this beautiful house and gardens. Will definitely return.

Ideal for serious walkers with access to Coniston Fells on your doorstep. Plenty of choice for eating out with six pubs within walking distance. Property was clean and functionable although we found the King Size Bed very uncomfortable and the duvets lumpy! Only information about Rubbish/Recycling was an out of date yearly timetable displayed in the Kitchen, although we managed to put the rubbish out on the right day. Garden was good for our dog and grass was cut durring our stay. Overall, the location is the main pull for this property and is a great place to explore the area.

  • "We've stayed at Sethera for a number of years, sometimes twice if finances allow, due to the location and the large garden."

However, our recent visit was disappointing. The property was dirty, with white dog hairs in every room, stained table and place mats with food marks, large cobwebs in the corners of each room, drawers full of debris, and a bath full of previous guests' hair. A few years ago, they updated the sofa, which was needed. However, the mattress and pillows are now in desperate need of replacement. The current ones offer no support, making it very difficult to have a good night’s sleep. The garden was overgrown and covered in dog faeces, which isn’t great. Additionally, the description says it has a dryer, but it hasn't had one for two years. It's really disappointing that this little cottage has been left in such a condition.

I know probably beyond their control because of wet weather but grass very long in parts. Settee very low, facilities quite basic and finishing in bathroom poor quality. However we would probably stay their again due to size of back garden and fully enclosed as well as in centre of Coniston for convenience. Two mins walk from Ruskin Museum for any Bluebird fans. Of course Coniston has an abundance of walking trails. I did cook a few times but I took some of my own cookware.

Pleased to report that the damp issue has been completely resolved with there now being no signs or smells at all. As before kitchen facilities are bare minimum, but sufficient for us as we eat out mostly. Unfortunately this time round cleanliness was a real issue - cobwebs everywhere! We had a need to retrieve something which had fallen down the side of the bed, when we looked behind the bedhead it was absolutely full of cobwebs! At night our heads were inches away, through an open slatted bedhead, away from a nightmare you certainly wouldn'the put your hand into. Will need to seriously consider whether we go back there again. A pity as it is in such a lovely location.

It is in an excellent position reguarding town and walks, The town is 3 minutes walk and has a good selection of shops and pubs. All dog friendly which is a plus. The cottage itself is the same as it was last year and the issues that keep appearing in most reviews are the same. Namely there are no washing facilities for your clothes unless you train an extention lead from the outhouse through the bedroom window. Which isnt ideal. It would make more sense to have a washing machine in the kitchen rather than a dishwasher. However the cottage itself is clean and tidy and the beds are comfy. The garden is fantastic for bbqs and the dog to play in on a summer evening, the drive is good as the car is not needed once you arrive. There is also a good bus service that arrives in coniston every hour going to various places.. We will be booking again as the issues are not enough to put us off..

  • "The cottage is superbly situated within easy walking distance of everything in the village so unless you want to leave Coniston, you simply don’t need to use the car - a real bonus!"

It is a cosy, inviting and comfortable cottage. The garden is incredible and our dog loved haring up and down chasing her ball! Please update your photos on the website! I was actually dreading coming to stay as the reviews were so bad and it looked very tired in the pictures, but we were pleasantly surprised as you’ve obviously worked hard to update lots of the cottage and it’s lovely and far more contemporary than I’d expected. I have some photos if you’d like them. The big issue we had were that the washing machine wasn’t working - so we ended up hand washing in the bath (no fun) and the drier not being available also was a pain. In the Lake District, a washer/drier is pretty essential - especially with kids and a dog and unreliable weather - so that let the property down for us. Also that the kitchen could be slightly better stocked - only 1 of each plate/bowl/cutlery etc for a family was a bit limiting and a few larder basics would be useful - oil, salt/pepper, herbs, etc. We bought some and left for the next tenants. Although the cottage isn’t overlooked at all, some optional blinds in the front window might’ve been nice - it did feel a little like being showcased to the neighbourhood every time we sat at the table to eat! All in all, a good holiday cottage. Thank you! We enjoyed our stay.

The gardens were very overgrown when we arrived, thankfully Sykes got this sorted whilst we were there, but it was a very poor first impression. The previous tenants had not sorted the rubbish out properly and again this was very unsightly when we first arrived. The king size bed is extremely hard and uncomfortable. The property states there is a drier there isn't. Now let's focus on the washing machine, it's in the garage connected by an extension lead into the bedroom which we only discovered when it wasn't working. We'll it worked once while we were there, 3 times we had maintenance out as it kept throwing the fuses, the last maintenance man changed the socket, he left and after 10 mins I decided to dry my hair, guess what, the fuses blew again! So good luck to the ne t tenants, but we were there for a week, in the rain and had no washing machine. Hope it's better for the next people to stay.

However very limited in terms of what we was in the bungalow. No oven gloves, one toilet roll, no basics os salt, pepper, tea etc . Mismatched crockery. Glassware limited. In our experience of holiday Cottages all over the country the basics and often more are in situ. Tea, coffee, some condiments, at least 2 loo rolls We drove from Cornwall and had we arrived late we couldn't even have had a cup of tea. There were dehumidifier type pots everywhere and the place was damp. The sill in the bay window was lifting. Outside looked unkempt and scruffy. No washing machine. None of this impacted on our time in the lakes but the place needs some work, consideration of items left for guests and looking at from a guests perspective considering the cost it is.

  • "The main problem was that the washing machine is not in use."

It is in the outhouse and is connected to the electricity via a connection point going into the double bedroom. This lead was plugged into a wall socket behind the wardrobe. The plug has signs of scorching and hence did not work. This did cause a problem as it rained a few days and we were not able to wash anything. Let me know if you want me to send photos of the scorching. There was also a musty smell in lounge and the bedrooms. Obviously this is known as there are dehumidifier boxes throughout. It was a fairly mild week so we didn’t need the heating on (which may have removed the smell temporarily) so we noticed it. I see this is a recurring theme in previous renters comments

  • "Unfortunately, as per previous reviews, there was indeed quite a damp issue at the cottage."

I wouldn't say it was sufficiently bad enough to actually spoil the holiday, but it is certainly an issue. It appears to be a problem with the rendering failing and would mean leaving the cottage vacant for a week to fix. Otherwise it is in an excellent location, a good size and comfortable. It was cleaner than a lot of other cottages we have stayed in, unless you start looking in corners . The kitchen had the basics but not overly supplied. The main issue of the damp would not stop us using this cottage again but we would definately hope the problem was resolved.

Will definately be booking to return had a great week, However a few things need to be addressed, the bungalow was quite damp and had a musty smell as soon as you walk in, the de humidifiers dont work, there is mold on the window ledges, the washing machine needs to be in the kitchen not an out house that you have to use an extention lead through the bedroom window to use. The outside bins were full for the whole time we were there so we had to leave a black bin bag next to the bin when we left. The gardeners turned up and opened the side gate without informing us they were going to cut the grass, As luck would have it our dog was not in the garden at the time and is not likely to bite or run away. The Bungalow is in need of some general maintenance.

We were advised that check-in time was from 2pm which seemed early although ideal for our purposes as my daughter was starting the Lakeland 100 mile event at 6pm and wanted a few hours rest before then. However, when we arrived at 2.15pm, the property was still being cleaned with the cleaner under the impression that check-in was late afternoon. Due to this breakdown in communication, the property was not thoroughly cleaned before our stay. The facilities at Sethera were adequate for our stay. We liked the lounge/diner which was large, comfortable and full of light. The large, secure garden was great for our dog. On the downside, the beds were not very comfortable and, as others have mentioned, there was a dampness and mustiness which was noticeable although not significant enough to spoil our stay.

It has the potential to be a wonderful holiday let. However, as soon as you enter the door there is a strong smell of dampness. The bedrooms and bed linens were particularly bad and despite having the central heating on at times, this only intensified the problem. Our clothes were damp and smelt of foist after only one day . The exterior rear walls have black damp patches with moss growing out of them . Due to both my friend and I having respiratory problems, we were unable to stay any longer and left after 2 nights. The location was fantastic and we really appreciated the driveway for our car. The garden was amazing for our Labrador and he loved being able to play and run around there. A couple of things I would like to mention is the property seems to have a lot of damp issues that need to be addressed. They must be aware as there were dehumidifiers in every room but it still left a smell to the property and our clothes were often damp in the morning but didn’t massively affect our stay. Also my daughters found the single beds very uncomfortable, however I found the king size bed comfortable. Finally something that would have really helped would have been a couple of bath sheets rather then towels - as a plus size lady the towels weren’t sufficient.
