  • "This was our second holiday in the last 12 months at Little Bower."

We love it. The cottage is very comfortable, clean and cosy. It is ideal for a retired active couple such as ourselves. It is perfectly situated being just off the main street of Hawes and next to all facilities such as groceries etc. This is especially important to us as we do not own a car and travel to Hawes by train and then the excellent Little White Bus service fetching and taking us to the remote Garsdale train station at the start and end of our holiday. We were very impressed by how friendly, helpful and efficient the cottage owner's daughter was in sorting a problem with the water heating after our arrival. It was fixed by sorting the timer promptly the very next morning by their appointed tradesman. This was at no inconvenience to ourselves as, by arrangement the tradesman could access the cottage without us needing to be there. This was very helpful to us as we had planned to take the early bus to Leyburn for a day out and enjoyed a lovely day there. We have been holidaying at Hawes for over 30 years and for most of that time we came with our touring caravan and our 2 boys and stayed at the Brown Moor site. They are now in their late 30s and have their own families and we no longer have a caravan. We intend to come back twice each year and look forward to spending these breaks at the Little Bower.

  • "The property was perfect, better than expected."

Probably the cleanest self catering accommodation I have ever stayed in. It had all the facilities you would need, the log burner made it warm and cosy and with the addition of the wall heaters it ensured the cottage stayed warm whilst out. Very comfy bed and a good shower. The welcome basket was a nice touch. Excellent location as central, but most are in HAWES :) Nothing negative to say about this cottage.

It is very well placed near the town centre and there is a free carpark around the corner. The cottage is well equipped with good quality appliances and furniture. We had a great ime and would recommend a stay there

  • "Only disappointment was having a car parked in front of property most of the time, which effectively made the seat positioned in front of the window redundant."

There were odd items of kitchen equipment which would have been an invaluable addition (we do our own cooking on holiday), but this was no big deal. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable

  • "A clean, well stocked little house with good wi-fi in the centre of Hawes."

In addition to background heat from storage heaters, an electric radiator and fan heater were provided which were useful when not using the wood burning stove. Useful household items included a clothes airer, ironing board and iron, needed for drying and reproofing waterproof clothing. Interesting walks from the house include those to Aysgill Force, Wether Fell and to Hardraw Force.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay at The Little Bower, cosy traditional little Dales cottage in an excellent location."

Hawes is a lovely little village with nice shops, some great nearby walks and drives to other Dales, and if you’re into wild swimming some nice spots e.g. Kisdon Force in Keld. The bed was very comfortable as well! Bought some cheese from the Wensleydale creamery and enjoyed with some nice wine!

The property could do with a hairdryer. The bedroom curtains would have been better lined they were too thin morning sun woke me up around 5 every morning. Other wise good place to stay.

About the location

Leyburn 16 miles.

Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.
