  • "The property was nice and suited our needs with a lovely shower and large bedroom with a king size bed and a small sitting room all on the same floor as the entrance hall dining room and kitchen which was ideal for my elderly mother."

The beds were comfy and the lounge was a bright spacious room with nice views out of the windows. The cottage was perfectly located for where we wanted to be in the Lakes. The boiler packed up the day before we left and although we had a very quick response from the maintenance team he was unable to fix it before we left. He did supply additional oil filled radiators and put the immersion tanks on for hot water but the water was only luke warm and although I didn’t mind a Luke warm shower my family were not so keen. Not that this was the fault of the estate it was just one of those things although the immersion temperature might need to be checked if needed again. But there were little things that we felt needed changing but this was only our opinion. The small sitting room & lounge cushions were made of feathers which constantly shed feathers that would stick in our cardigans/jumpers, also as I am asthmatic the feathers were a particular problem for myself. The dining room only had a few wall lights and one lamp not sure if this was meant to be atmospheric but when it rained it was quite dark, maybe bigger wattage of bulbs or another lamp would help. The mother/daughter light switches were a bit temperamental on the light in small sitting room. But as I said apart from the feather cushions we had a lovely stay and would stay again if we were in that area. Also I couldn’t find any instructions for the microwave. But as I said earlier

Thank you for your detailed review. We're delighted to hear that the cottage suited your needs and that you enjoyed the comfortable accommodation, beautiful views, and convenient location for exploring the Lakes. It's especially pleasing to know that the ground-floor layout worked well for your mother. We're sorry that the boiler developed a fault during your stay. Unfortunately, these issues can occasionally arise unexpectedly, but we're pleased our maintenance team was able to respond quickly and provide temporary heating and hot water while arrangements were made for repairs. Thank you also for your feedback regarding the cushions, lighting and microwave instructions. The cushions are new, but we appreciate that feather-filled cushions may not suit everyone's preferences. We'll also look at adding an additional lamp to the dining room and will make sure microwave instructions are included in the property information folder for future guests. We're very pleased that, despite these issues, you had a lovely stay and would consider returning in the future. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Property Owner

  • "Great house-perfect for us with our family being both young and older."

Sleeping arrangements fabulous with basically the two wings. Comfy beds. Shower room radiator maybe needed bleeding as it didn’t get hot but we had a super holiday. Pool use was a fabulous bonus to the stay especially as the weather was wet and the estate walks were wonderful. Well appointed house and log burner and utility rooms were great on wet days. A child proof fireguard would be a useful addition.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We’re delighted the house suited your family so well and that the layout, comfy beds, pool, estate walks, and cosy log burner helped you enjoy your stay despite the wet weather. Thank you also for the helpful notes. We’ll check the shower room radiator and get that sorted. You’re absolutely right about the fireguard — every property on the estate should have one where there is an open fire or log burner. I’ll look into why this wasn’t in place and will order one to ensure it is. We’re so pleased you had a super holiday and hope to welcome you back again soon. Property Owner

There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside.
