  • "Our 4th visit to this cottage but I have not given it 5 stars this time because, after a rather stressful journey, we arrived to find that the house hadn't been serviced."

Once the housekeeping team had been alerted it was sorted out fairly quickly but we could have done without the hassle. The key safe is a real bonus - trying to find somewhere to park in the village on a Saturday afternoon to collect the keys from the pub was a nightmare. Glad to see the mug issue has been resolved. On the maintenance side everything was fine apart from the Dyson vacuum cleaner which wasn't picking up at all - a bit worrying as we had 2 dogs with us. We took it apart and unblocked all the tubes and it is now fine. All in all a very good holiday and mostly very good weather.

  • "We have a lovely week in the cottage."

3 double bedrooms and en-suites were great for 3 couples (plus 1 infant) The lounge was a great size for the 11 month old to crawl around safely in. The grassy area out the front with picnic table was a bonus for post-walking sun and drinks. Would happily go back again

  • "Elterwater lodge is in a nice setting very peaceful with a secure garden our 2 dogs loved playing in the stream."

The settees in the lounge were comfortable but a bit low and trying to watch the TV was uncomfortable due to the height of the TV on the wall if this was sited a bit lower on the wall it would be ideal. The weather was fairly good to us, a nice holiday was had by all.

  • "This was our second stay in Elterwater Lodge."

A beautiful quiet location and comfortable property. We were looking forward to using the balcony/decking area as we had done before. Unfortunately it was not to be as the whole area had been covered with netting, presumably to prevent slipping on the wooden surface. The netting was ripped, rusty and pulled up in various places - difficult to see until tripping up over it! This is definately a safety hazard.

  • "This was a lovely holiday home which had everything we needed."

Idyllic views from every bedroom. The only neighbours are the local Herdwicks. We were unable to enjoy the balcony or picnic bench as the weather wasn’t kind to us. We would agree that a key safe would be useful. There are many great walks from the property. Cathedral Cave is definitely worth a visit. Walking distance to The Britannia Inn where you get a warm welcome and great food. We can also recommend The Wainwrights Inn in Chapel Stile as well as the walk along the river and lake to Chester’s by The River in Skelwith Bridge. We would certainly visit again as so much more of this area of The Lakes to explore.

  • "I should start this with the context that we had terrible weather (not your fault!"

) and I also got food poisoning (lunch at the Britania Inn seems to have been the culprit), so it wasn't exactly the most enjoyable week spent at the Lodge. Listing references "2.5 acres of land to roam in", not sure where that 2.5 acres is as the fenced off garden at the lodge is nothing like that big. There was a paddock type field next to the lodge, but I didn't see any info in the lodge to hint that it was land that we could use. Listing also references the lodge to be "A true Lake District hideaway". I suspect that was written before the absolutely huge house was built right next to the Lodge, which overlooks the whole of the house. We agree with the other published feedback re. sofas in the lounge. They're really not very comfortable and definntely not when your watching the TV which is set high on the wall [unfortunately due to weather and illness I did a lot of TV watching :( ]. Lighting in the lounge was a bit binary as well, very bright with the main ceiling lights on, and only two standard lamps as the alternative. Dimmer on the main lights would have been nice. General quality of the Lodge was very good, but there were a couple of things that need some attention ... one of the curtain rail brackets in the living room was close to pulling away from the wall, and similarly, one of the raidator brackets in the shared upstairs bathroom was coming away from the wall. The back door also stuck, probably due to the very wet weather, it needed quite a nudge to get it open.

  • "Lovely place and very well equipped."

Having all en suite was a real bonus. The sofas are very low and quite uncomfortable for watching the tv which is so high up. For the cost I think not including wood for the fire feels a bit tight. A key lock box would be better given it’s a house for 6 if you want to go out separately. Plus collecting from the pub is tricky on a Saturday when elterwater is packed! There are some issues with the lighting. The free standing one in the left hand corner is flickering as are the main lights in the lounge when off. In my room (the smallest one) the night light was continually flickering up and down so I think the electrics need looking at. None of this is criticism. Just feedback otherwise you will never know!

Beds were comfortable and linen and towels were good. The only disappointments were inaccuracies in the listings ie It said all power and fuel included but there were no logs or kindling for the log burner ( we had 12 inches of snow ,so no chance of buying any!) Also Netflix was said to be included but it wasn’t ( own subscription only) A few extras, like liquid hand soap and a welcome basket would have been nice. The house felt very much like a holiday home, a bit stark. All in all a good comfortable stay but with a few extras could have been great.

The space and remoteness were just what we were looking for. Without a doubt we would stay again. The dogs thoroughly enjoyed the big garden and paddling in the stream too. You do have access to the swimming pool at the Langdale hotel. I asked customer services several times before we came to check and they came back with ‘no there is not a pool on site’…. Not what I asked. Feedback for Sykes, check for your customers when they ask a question…..

  • "Despite being frequent visitors to The Lakes, this is the first time we have stayed at Elterwater Lodge."

If you're looking to stay somewhere to chill out after a days walking, this is the place for you. Beautifully presented and clean, it sits in it's own grounds surrounded by nothing but beautiful views in whichever direction you look. The house really lacks for nothing at all and the owners are more than helpful. We had one minor problem with the heating in one of the bedrooms and they were on to it straightaway. You will undoubtedly enjoy the wood burning stove, especially in the colder months - it made the place feel really cosy. How we wish we could have sat out on the patio area at the back with a glass of wine and some nibbles. Sadly, March is not normally the month to be able to do that, but if you're thinking of going in the warmer months, we can well imagine that you could spend some very pleasant afternoons and evenings just letting time pass you by. You hear nothing but the sound of nature - perfect. We have no hesitation in recommending Elterwater Lodge. I somehow think we will be back during the summer!!

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Elterwater Lodge."

Excellent location for walks and loved the local - Britannia Arms. The house was very comfortable with good heating and woodburner. In the main, in good condition and well equipped. A few things to highlight however: 1. The wire netting on the decking outside the back door has come apart in places and caused a few trips and also dangerous for the dog 2. There are not enough mugs or knives even for 3 of us, so would be difficult if there were 6 staying. 3. There was no facility to recycle waste so we had to either put materials that would normally be recycled in the general waste wheelie bin or bring home. We noticed the next door property had recycling bags and boxes. 4. We were a bit confused about the final day leaving time as the Sykes email said 10am but the sheet in the house 9am. 5. We only realised once we arrived that we had premission to use the swimming pool at the hotel. This was not in the advance information so we hadn't brought our costumes. Overall however we had a very enjoyable stay. Than you

Age range 7 - 69. This is a very comfortable house and would be happy to stay here again. We were very toasty, we never got round to lighting the fire and didn't need to alter the heating settings. Abundant hot water, we never ran out. The beds were very comfortable. We made good use of the washing machine (though didn't use the drier cycle) and clothes dried really quickly on the airer and radiators. The kitchen was well equipped, although ONLY 6 MUGS!!!!!!, so we were forever washing mugs up. Also a lack of small chopping boards. For coffee drinkers - we used the Nespresso machine and there were several cafetieres. The lighting in the dining area was a little too dim, especially when doing jigsaws or playing board games in the evening. We ventured out on some beautiful walks from the house and hardly used our car at all.

Perfect for exploring the lake district or just staying within the local area for walks. The garden is secure with fencing all around however if you have a small or very determined dog it would be possible for them to get through gaps. The small hamlet of Little Langdale quietly sits in a scenic valley and consists of a scattering of houses and a local pub. The area is separated by the Lingmoor Fell from Great Langdale and is accessed via a twisting road which runs alongside the Brathay River, eventually passing by Little Langdale Tarn and heading to the Wrynose pass, following the path of an ancient Roman road. The landscape is magnificent with many regarding the area as the most beautiful in the British Isles, if not indeed the whole of Europe, inspiring many great poets over the years including William Wordsworth, known for his love of the area.
