  • "Croft Cottage was a comfortable, well equipped holiday cottage, in a lovely village."

Our hosts left a very generous welcome hamper, for both us and our dog, and provided lots of information leaflets about the surrounding area, which were very useful. All the rooms were very clean, and the kitchen was well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider returning in the future. Thank You Jacquie.

  • "The cottage was well presented, and had everything we needed."

It's location - just 3m from Settle at the South Western edge of the Yorkshire Dales - made it easy to get to lots of places of interest both in the Dales and elsewhere e.g. Kirby Lonsdale. Long Preston is also a very attractive village in which to stay. Will definitely consider returning.

  • "The cottage was very well equipped and ideal for a holiday break."

Excellent package of food essentials left by owners was more than we expected. One suggestion would be to put some coat hooks in the entrance hall as only place to hang coats was on banisters and not ideal if they are wet. Overall a very enjoyable stay with great pub the Maypole just a few minutes walk.

The cottage was extremely comfortable in a lovely quiet location. We enjoyed using the logwood burner and were very grateful for our welcome basket. My little boy loved seeing the ponies in the neighbouring field. Jacquie made us feel extremely welcome and even went out of her way to deliver a prize we had won at the local village coffee morning. We will definitely return in the future.

Owners we're good enough to send sandals bk that were left behind at no extra charge. Only thing I would flag up for improving my stay, kitchen utensils eg potato masher, tin opener, spatulas we're not great quality and could be replaced by slightly better quality items. There were a couple of tin foil trays that had been washed and left but could do with some sturdy trays for use in oven. Owners were very kind, generous leaving a very good quality welcome pack with fresh eggs, milk, cakes etc, lovely treats for our dog too. Would return if I wanted to visit yorkshire again. Thankyou so much!

Easy to find and gain access to the property. Jacque had left 2 welcome hampers, one for us and one for our yellow Labrador, so thank you very much for these they were great to receive. The cottage had everything you could want for a weeks holiday and we didn’t need to buy anything like washing up liquid etc as they were already there so that was fab. We visited many places while staying there and enjoyed Aysgarth and Ingleton waterfalls, Bolton Abbey, Fountains Abbey, Settle and Skipton. Croft Cottage was wonderfully well equipped with everything you could need. It had a real ‘home from home’ feel about it and the dogs clearly felt at home. Nice welcome packs too and tea, coffee, sugar canisters filled. Also toilet rolls, kitchen roll, cleaning products all there. Beds were extremely comfortable, everything worked as it should with lots of nice little touches in the house. Well situated for the 3 Peaks which we did over 3 days with the dogs - was the hottest week of the year! Malham Cove also worth a visit. Loved the market town of Settle and driving through the Dales. Long Preston itself was a nice little village - 2 pubs which let dogs in - in fact nearly all the pubs around that area are dog-friendly. People very nice too. A fantastic little cottage - an all round fab holiday. Just one thing to bear in mind the A65 which runs through the village can be very busy and the traffic noise was noticeable but probably just because we aren’t used to it.

  • "The cottage was cosy and so well equipped, whilst I read about the good welcome packs I was not expecting what was in them!"

For future reference for anyone going to stay, the human one contained bread, milk (four pints), one mini bottle each of white, rose and red wine, cakes, biscuits, ground coffee and eggs! The tea, coffee and sugar canisters were all filled up too. The canine one contained two bowls, poo bags, towel and a full jar of biscuits! Never stayed anywhere that was so generous! Was a nice warm cottage with wood burner too of which there was coal and wood to use. Good walks from the cottage which was great so at least Zak had a good one first thing so whatever we did for the rest of the day we knew he was ok should another not be forthcoming, this was only the case on one day. You need to be on the lookout for sheep though, the stone walls made good barriers but every now and then sheep would appear where they hadn't been the day before and you would realise there were no walls or water in between. Two good pubs minutes away, we ate in both, Maypole and Boars Head which we ate in twice, good food, generous portions. Plenty to do in the area, Ingleton Falls and Bolton Abbey we particularly enjoyed, Zak has never been so well walked! All in all a thoroughly enjoyable holiday and Storm Gareth did not interfere too much! Days planned around the weather and we found plenty to do. Would recommend this cottage and the area.

About the location

Settle 4 miles; Malham 4 miles; Skipton 12 miles.

Long Preston is an attractive Yorkshire Dales village in Ribblesdale, twelve miles from Skipton (popularly known as the 'Gateway to the Dales'), four miles from Settle. To the north, the landscape rises to the fells, moors and picturesque valleys of the Dales; to the south are the wetlands of the Ribble Valley which, in turn, sweep upward to the magnificent wilderness of Bowland. The village benefits from several large, tree lined, village greens, with footpaths leading direct to the surrounding hills, and it also boasts two excellent pubs with first rate cuisine. The railway station on the edge of the village provides access to the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway line which crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Nearby Settle is a bustling market town with a weekly market, the centre being dominated by the Shambles, an historic 3-storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool.
