  • "Brilliant lodge in a great park."

Perfect location for exploring Ambleside, Grasmere, Windermere etc. Lodge was kitted out with practically everything you could need! The deck is a proper sun trap in the afternoon. Brilliant stay, we’ll be back!

Hi Kelly Thanks for your kind review about your stay in our lodge. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your holiday and look forward to welcoming you back. Jan and Rod Property Owner

It is positioned up high on the park and is just a short walk to the reception and entertainment areas. We were lucky enough to get gorgeous weather and so it was great to sit outside on the decking. I would recommend the park and the accommodation very highly

Dear Terryl, thank you so much for your kind feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay in our lodge Striding Edge Whitecross Bay. You had some lovely dry, sunny weather for your stay and the decking is great to take in the views over the park and watch the many different birds visit the feeders and have a drink or two! We hope you'll visit again soon. The Owners Property Owner

  • "We would just like to say thank you very much to the owners (won't say names for GDPR)."

They contacted us when the power went out (storm Arwen) a few days before we were due to arrive and made sure we were kept up to date with any changes. The power went on before we set off for site. The owners had travelled up from Leeds on the day to check the property was ok for us to stay in and even left a lovely bottle of red. Thank you very much! :)

  • "On arrival, all appeared lovely, until we started to unpack and start using items from the kitchen."

The place was filthy. And I mean really dirty. I left feedback for the owners in the visitors book and have not been contacted by the owners which is just terrible. I have taken pictures and intend on sharing them on here if it’s possible and with the owners. Food still left on crockery, cutlery, and other kitchen equipment. Chocolate wrappers left down the side of beds, children’s toys left, dog food on the floor, filthy dog feeding station, filthy dustpan and brush, dog hairs all over the standing lamp base. My children dropped something g behind the sofa and moved the sofa to retrieve it only to find, dog poo bags (empty thank goodness) underneath, dried food into the floor, dog hair all over and thick dust everywhere including the wood surrounding the bed headboards. The bathroom was dirty, black gunge around the shower screen where it meets the bath, dirt around the toilet (upon cleaning my cloths came up yellow

Feedback from our guests is invariably positive so we were shocked and disappointed to read the comments lodged by Mr And Mrs Wallis, and astonished that at no time over the two weeks of their stay did they contact us to alert us to the problems that they encountered. They must have read the comments from previous guests in the guest book and realised that what they encountered was not how our lodge is normally presented. Had they contacted us on the day of arrival we would have immediately driven up and, in conjunction with our cleaning company, addressed all the issues and done a deep clean. Our contact details are posted at the entrance to the lodge and internally so contact would have been easy. Several Maintenance issues were raised: Black gunge on the shower door seal: The seal was replaced in March and on checking was found to be clean. Bath plug not sealing properly: The nylon seal had become detached. I removed the plug and reattached the seal. The gas hob igniter temperamental: The switch was removed and the contacts cleaned. All of the above took minutes to rectify and could have been resolved on day one, had we known. We pay our cleaning company handsomely for their services and expect better from them. We have raised the issues with them in the strongest possible terms. Property Owner

  • "The location of the lodge was great, nice and private with a large area to sit out unlike many others on the site."

We had lots of sunshine all day. The lodge was well equipped with everything we needed. My only criticism would be the pillows badly need replacing and carpets cleaned but these are easily fixed and we’d definitely book to stay again.

Thank you for your feedback. We have now replaced all the pillows, the carpets have been professionally cleaned and we will visit again to check this. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you again soon. Kind regards Property Owner

  • "The only concern we had was the damp issue in the bedrooms."

There were louvre doors on the wardrobes and they let in a lot of damp air from bathroom. There was mould in the wardrobes and it caused us to struggle at night with breathing. My husband has an inhaler anyway and although I don't normally suffer with breathing issues, I certainly did on this holiday. Since arriving home, it has totally cleared up.

  • "We were impressed with Sykes Holiday cottages as a company, providing information and prompt response to queries."

The lodge was ideally located to explore the lakes and the facilities on site were excellent. The lodge did provide everything to make our stay comfortable. However, we felt let down on the cleanliness in the lodge. oven trays were dirty and greasy as if they had been put back after being used without being washed. Under the sofa's were wrappers, straws cob webs and lots of dust. Down the sides of the single beds were lots of cob webs one containing a dead spider. We were very lucky with the weather during our stay, sitting outside was a little spoilt by the cobwebs hanging from the roof. It was pleasant watching a variety of birds feeding from the bird feeder on the decking. The feeder did appear to be in the wrong place, being in the middle left the area covered in bird poo. It was not pleasant to sit and look at. ( I do have photographs if required) We do run our own business and always welcome feedback as ways to improve. I hope you find our comments useful.

We think the cabin numbers could be made more clearer to see as you approach each one, perhaps the number and name of the lane on the side of the cabin especially if you arrive in the dark it took us ages, but it didn't help when reception told us to go right when we should have kept left from the barriers, but we found it eventually, we all had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend to friends Thankyou

  • "Had a lovely holiday at Striding Edge in White Cross Bay Park."

The Lodge was comfortable, homely, well equipped and well looked after by the owners. With White Cross Bay, location in the Park itself is crucial and Striding Edge is very well located, being high up with the verandah facing away from the road, towards the tops of the trees. We took 2 dogs and it was perfect for them, with an enclosed verandah and woods where we could walk them just across from the lodge. There’s a bird feeder on the verandah that attracts a wide variety of small birds. We filled it up and found it very relaxing just sitting watching the birds either from the verandah or through the lodge windows from the sitting room area. There is ample parking and it is a good base from which to enjoy the Lake District, with many attractions nearby. We would definitely book this lodge again. The booking process through Sykes was easy and everything went very smoothly, so we wouldn’t hesitate to book again with Sykes.

  • "Needs a little TLC, quite dated."

Had everything we needed but a little upgrade would be appreciated. Really enjoyed the bird feeder on the patio. The birds were fascinating Could do with a good clean as quite a few cobwebs about - might be being picky. The sink in the kitchen needs sorting as the draining board drain was blocked and beginning to smell. If we had been there longer we would have sorted. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay. Thanks very much for a great few days.

  • "Lodge was so cozy."

Bitter cold and snow when we were there but to come back to a lovely warm lodge which had everything you needed in it. Also catered so well for children with games/books/pens etc. So much thought put in by the owners. Would definitely recommend. Unfortunately for us our dog was poorly and couldn't take her and then my granddaughter was poorly so the family couldn't come either. Ended up just myself and my husband and I was so upset things didn't go to plan. We came home Sunday so one day early with them being poorly too. But cannot take anything away from the cottage. Only thing I would mention of the entertainment complex is that its not that big. I wouldn't like to see how busy it would be in school holidays but staff are lovely.

Double bed was a bit short for tall people. I am 6'3" and had my feet hanging out while sleeping. Otherwise, couldn't have been more perfect. Wish we had stayed there for longer. The main negative is that the leisure facilities (swimming pool, sauna and steam room) are open till 7 pm only with last entry at 6 30 pm. It would be great if it was open till 8 or 9 pm where people could relax after a long day of walking and traveling.
