"Lovely break in Wigton."
The Retreat is perfect. Alison and Mark have done an amazing renovation on this property with great styling. Everything you could need. We had the BEST nights sleep EVER! I would be extremely greatful to learn what mattress is in the property so that I can get one for home! Thank you for letting us stay and we hope to revisit soon. X

"Great place, very well styled, and welcoming, even the bedroom which is often more practical than glamorous!"
Ample room and more for 2 people and a dog! Very spacious rooms and a well equipped kitchen.
We parked in the car park recommended 2 mins walk away with no problem. Very close to the High Street for all your shopping and meal requirements.
Not an awful lot to do in the immediate vicinity but a great base for discovering the wider area, coast and Northern Lakes, an area we hadn’t visited before.

"Absolutely loved the cottage it’s great to see an old building like that having been refurbished to a really terrific standard."
It’s a nice quiet location for visiting the lovely areas on the Solway Coast. We would thoroughly recommend The Oddfellows Arms in Calderbeck for food it’s excellent and only 14 mins by car, and of course the Cottage.
Thank you for your lovely feedback, it’s alway good to have recommendations for eating out. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and would love to welcome you back again.

"This is our third time at the retreat, so really that speaks for itself!"
Tbf we choose to stay here because it is very close and convenient when we visit family in Wigton, but we would not continue to come if it didn’t meet our expectations! It is comfortable, warm and clean, right in the town centre (but not noisy!) and only a short drive to the Lake District and the coast. The only downside is the lack of parking but there are car parks nearby. A parking permit is provided but we didn’t use it so we’re not sure if it can be used for overnight parking. Note to the owners, some info on this would be useful!) Also there is no outside space at all, which is not a problem for us but might be for others. All in all I highly recommend this property.
Thank you again for your very encouraging feedback.I am glad it allows you to visit family without the stress of wondering where to stay and what it will be like!
I agree at times the parking can be an issue, unfortunately this is completely out of our control. There is not a dedicated space for any of the properties. The parking permit is for local car parks in nearby towns for shopping etc, There is only one car park in the centre of Wigton you can park overnight which was around £4.80 when we had to use it last. There is some information in our folder, but since taking on the property last July we are also finding our feet. We aim to update the parking information when we go and stay next.
Thanks again for your continued support. Kind regards Alison & Mark

"This is our second time at The Retreat and no doubt it won’t be our last!"
The apartment is beautiful and has everything you could need. We were there in mid-December and it was cosy and warm. The bed is very comfortable and the shower is hot, both very welcoming after walks in the beautiful Lake District or on the coast, which are each about half an hours drive away. We had no issues this time but last time when we had a problem the hosts were attentive and quickly got it sorted. The only issue is a lack of parking but that is just how it is on that particular street. A parking permit was provided. Highly recommended.
Thank you for returning to The Retreat, we are always happy to help our guests as much as we can, to minimise any disruption to your well earned break. We are really happy you find it so cosy and comfortable. We look forward to seeing you again.

"We had a great time, the accommodation was really clean and had everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday."
Bed was comfortable, shower was great and Wigton itself is a lovely little place. We used two butchers and both supplied good quality chicken and sausages.
Parking is on the road - we never had a problem and found a space every day when we returned from a day out.
Only recommendation would be to have darker/blackout curtains in the bedroom but not a major problem .
We loved all the finishing touches, from the magazines, nice hand wash, tissues and the biscuits and milk sachets.
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We are really happy you had a comfortable stay and had everything you needed. We pride ourselves on being able to create a home from home feel, so you are free to enjoy going out and about exploring the beautiful lakes. The town also has everything you need all within walking distance. We would love to welcome you back in the future.

"The apartment was very damp and smelly when we walked in on Thursday it did ..."
The apartment was very damp and smelly when we walked in on Thursday it did improve slightly as the weekend went on we found a slug on the bedroom wall friday night as we went to bed so i took it outside so not a good thing to happen overall the property was very good but just the damp that put us off going again
Thank you for your feedback.
Unfortunately the weather has dropped considerably in temperature and with heavy downpours of rain, we have not been able to adjust the heating temperature in time, the apartment was not occupied for several days prior to your arrival, and had not been kept warm. We have now rectified the heating times and duration.
May I reassure you that there is not any damp in the apartment, as with very old buildings, there is no insulation and a change in temperature with lots of rain will make the building feel cold and damp very quickly, normally regulated by the heating.I can only apologise, however if you had called us we could have talked you through the heating controls.
As there was only one isolated incident with the slug it is highly likely to have been brought in by the previous guests dog or walking boots.
Older properties have their appealing charm but also bring their challenges you don’t find with modern architecture.
Kind regards Alison & Mark

You have to be very zen to make it work!
Thank you so much for your feedback, we are really happy you enjoyed your stay. So glad you mentioned the door, we are there in a couple of weeks so will take a look at it, much appreciated.
Update on front door- the lock has been changed and is now working fine.
