The property

High Ickenthwaite Farmhouse is a traditional & splendid eighteenth-century farmhouse resting near Grizedale Forest & set on the very edge of 1300 acres of Bethecar Moor which extends between Grizedale Forest to the east & Coniston Water to the west.

Ideally suited to families or groups of friends keen on walking, biking & enjoying he peace of the great outdoors.

Just a one mile stroll over the moor from a wonderful family run pub open all day for delicious food & local real ales.

Set in the heart of the gorgeous Cumbrian countryside with the Lake District on the doorstep, this is a welcoming choice for families or groups planning days on the fells, lakeside wanders, and trail-filled adventures with the dogs in tow.

Step inside and the farmhouse’s character quickly makes itself known; rustic interiors are layered with wooden beams, exposed stonework, and feature fireplaces that hint at the home’s long story.

The open-plan living space forms the social heart of the house, where the kitchen invites slow breakfasts and bustling suppers, anchored by an electric range oven and hob.

Pull up a chair at the farmhouse table and let plans take shape over mugs of tea, before the sitting area draws everyone together beside a glowing woodburning stove. When the evening calls for a change of scene, a second sitting room offers another cosy place to unwind, also warmed by its own woodburning stove.

Downstairs, underfloor heating keeps everywhere nice & comfortable.

Upstairs, four well-presented bedrooms provide flexible sleeping arrangements, with a super-king-size, a king-size, and two twin rooms to suit your group’s mix.

Two shower rooms with walk-in showers keep mornings moving smoothly, whether you’re heading out early for a hike or easing into the day.

The little patio outside the back door overlooking open fields is ideal for fresh-air coffee, post-walk chats, and a peaceful pause between outings.

The property is situated on a small holding so guests can take a stroll and look out for animals which include donkeys, emus, sheep, peacock and chickens. From here, the wider area opens up with walking, hikes, and trails available from the doorstep, backed by some of the most striking countryside and mountain ranges. Spend time in nearby Ulverston, a local market town which still offers many independent shops, butchers, delicatessens & individual coffee shops.

For something completely different The Coast Road offers a wonderful selection of Cumbrian beaches on the shores of Morecambe Bay, just a 20 minute drive away. Venture into the Lake District for lakes and scenery at Coniston, and set aside days for exploring Grasmere & Keswick too & the bustling villages of Windermere & Ambleside.

Whatever your plans, High Ickenthwaite Farmhouse in the Rusland Valley Cumbria is a fine base for a memorable countryside escape.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £450.
