  • "We loved our stay at Carr House - there was plenty of room for all of us."

It was a special family weekend and the house was just what we wanted. We just wish we had stayed longer to make more use of the facilities. Our only suggestion is that we would have liked more ordianry glasses for water - there were lots of wine glasses and some pint beer galsses but a few smaller water glasses would have been good.

  • "Good size property with plenty of space."

Beds were comfortable. Games room was poor, dart board hanging off and only 2 darts. Pool table had broken cues. House was let down by poor cleanliness, dust and dead flies. Kitchen was filthy with the cooker covered in baked on grease, and I got a negative response from owner, whose response was, what do you want me to do. He then brought us cleaning products to clean it ourselves. I complained to Sykes, they did nothing, stating that the owner had responded quickly. Brilliant, responded but didn't resolve, emails to them were also ignored.

The owner did respond. I went to the house and agreed that things weren't perfect. A few dirty cups had been put back in the cupboard by previous guests, the cutlery drawer needed sorting, the fridge freezer top needed a wipe as did the cooker splashback. I asked the lady what we could do and she agreed that she would do it if I provided cleaning materials which I did along with a bottle of wine and an apology. Later in the week I received a demand for compensation as there 'had not been a response'. This was not true and I passed this on to Sykes. Property Owner

Happy with the property. Very nice and good views around it. We all know there's always space for improvement. I would recommend the owner to top some picture of the BBQ hub as it's a wonderful place to cook and sit and eat and also games room which will attract more visitors. Please put a roof over the hot tub because it woud save people in rainy days and they can enjoy more. Owner lives next to the property so very handy. Overall it at was brilliant.

House was clean and beautiful, beds were very comfortable and with 7 children age range from 2 - 17 there really was something for everyone. The BBQ hut was fantastic, as was the hot tub and summer house, the field at the end of the garden was perfect for rounders and football! The games room was a perfect retreat for the teenagers too. We really cannot recommend this more, the owners were very friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful, relaxed few days there. Would definitely go again and highly recommend for those who need to keep children occupied!

The house fitted our needs perfectly. Lots of space to be social together or find peace of you wanted. We made use of all the facilities, the BBQ hut, hot tub and games room. BBQ hut different!!. Unusual for a Sykes property you don't get provided with any contact details for the owner, so whilst I appreciate Sykes manage the property for them. If you had any pressing issues whilst away it would be incredibly hard to get resolved. We left a dressing gown behind, and whilst normally I would just contact owners direct and offer to pay postage. I'm not bothering getting my dressing gown back as Sykes charge 30 quid just to ask the question to the owner. However the house was fab, lots to see and do in the area. Would definitely go back

There was plenty of space, toilets, showers, towels, the beds were extremely comfortable, the hot tub was well used by us all as well as the wood burner in the living room. We had all the kitchen equipment we needed to prepare, cook and serve food. David couldn't have been more helpful with any queries we had and the board games, books and games room were very nice touches. The bbq hut looked wonderful but we didn't get time to try it out as we were so cozy in the hot tub and house. We even had a deer visit us in the garden at sunset whilst the hot tub was in use. All in all a very fun, comfortable and relaxing weekend, we will definitely be back!

We only had 3 double beds and 6 singles so had to change 1 ourselves. Some bathrooms didn't have any toilet rolls in them at all and the rest had half rolls. We appreciate it is a working farm, but the cleanliness wasn't upto scratch. The downstairs bedroom had old spiders dead in their webs, the amount of flies!/midge bites in the bathrooms with no vents avaliable was horrific. There must've been over 20 at one stage. It is advertised as having sky tv, yes there are Sky boxes, but you couldn't access as many channels as basic free view. We had to empty the dishwasher when we got there as it was full.

I'm sorry you had cause to complain. I met 2 of your party and said that if there were any concerns that I should be contacted. I am disappointed that you did not give me chance to sort things out. David Property Owner

What a great house this is, pictures don’t do it justice at all, it’s much bigger in person and loads of space for all of us (8 adults & 4 children). We were slightly concerned at first about staying on the A59 but once you’re there you feel as if you’re in the middle of nowhere, it’s very peaceful and the views in the garden are lovely, especially when sat in the amazing hot tub! The house is fully equipped, lots of pots, pans, utilities etc. it was a nice surprise to see some board games too! Games room was great, we spent a lot of time playing pool and darts! Also main lounge is a great space so socialising. Plenty of bathrooms which is always good when there’s a lot of you. Bedrooms really spacious and very comfortable and everywhere was very clean. My partner and I have already discussed potentially coming back to Carr house in the summer so we would 100% recommend to others. All in all a great stay and just want to say thank you to the owner David who was very accommodating in the lead up to and during our stay.

  • "We have just got back from a long weekend at Carr House."

We were a group of 11 adults and the house was just what we needed. There was plenty of space for all of us and the hot tub, BBQ hut, wendy house and games room made it even more enjoyable! There are heaters in the games room and wendy house so you can make use of them even in autumn/winter. We loved cooking in the BBQ hut and hearing the rain outside whilst we were all nice and toasty around the fire. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of cutlery, glasses, plates, pots and pans etc. The photos don’t do the house justice and it was better than we expected. Before we arrived, we were a little confused by the description of the bedroom setup, but a call to Sykes Cottages who contacted the owner cleared this up for us. When we arrived, the bedrooms were setup exactly as expected and it suited us just fine. The location is great as the house feels secluded, so you don’t have to worry too much about noise (the owner does live next door) but also very close to plenty of activities. We took a taxi to Preston for the day as well as going to a great local pub around the corner from the house for Sunday lunch (Bonny Inn). The only improvements I would say if I was being picky is that the bathrooms could do with an update as some showers and toilets worked better than others. Also, whilst the house did appear to be clean, when you moved furniture around, you could see that it could do with just an extra bit of cleaning. BUT this didn’t affect our stay and we would still 100% recommend this place to family & friends looking for group accommodation. Thank you!!

  • "The house was not as clean as other properties we have stayed in."

When we moved the drawer unit in the bedroom there was a sock, bobble and ring along with lots of dust! The downstairs bedroom had a large step into the shower so sadly my nan was unable to shower for the week, we feel the description of the property should state this house is not suitable for people with mobility issues - to enter the property there are steps, we had to carry my nan up these, there is also a small step from kitchen to hallway, again not mentioned. She was very restricted. Apart from that it was great. It did state there should be a welcome pack of charcoal for the BBQ, this was not there so we bought our own, again not a major issue but maybe the owner shouldn’t put it in their welcome notes.

This was not the feedback you gave me when we met. Charcoal is not included although if you had asked it could have been provided.(We provide a starter pack for the wood burning stoves in season) The cottage is not advertised as ambulant disabled. I apologise for the lack of cleaning and again this would have been sorted if highlighted. David Property Owner

We visited local areas of beauty or stayed ‘at home’ enjoying the lovely views and wildlife. The whole family agreed that this is somewhere that we would definitely like to revisit! We chatted with the owner who offered us advice and knowledge of the area without intruding on our holiday. The only negative was that two beds in the family room weren’t linked as requested. “Amazing family time we had x. Spacious Cottage with lots of room. Facilities and amenities are excellent, house is spotless, very spacious and nicely furnished. Hosts (live next door) are friendly and helpful whilst unobtrusive. Have already booked again for Christmas week. It felt like a home from home from the minute we stepped inside. Lots of interesting areas to explore locally, with some nice restaurants and pubs when dining out. Would recommend Carr House ++

Beautiful old farmhouse with modern decor and comforts. More than enough space for 12 people... plenty of freedom for 6 kids to run around. Beautiful scenery, handy location (Blackpool, Beacon Fells, Mrs Dowsons farm visited) and fantastic garden area with hot tub, bbq hut and plenty of garden furniture. David the owner is lovely. There if you need anything but just let’s you get on with your break. He said he checks the hot tub pH every morning, but only time he ever knocked the door was to say it was bin collection in the morning if we needed anything taken to the bins by the main road.. other than that it was just a wave in passing while he got on with his everyday life. Everyone loved this fantastic house.

We had a wonderful time and the hot tub was great with a fab addition of an indoor fire pit/BBQ. Only 1 issue, that was the owners living next door. The presence felt like we were being watched and observed. He even came round a couple of times! Not as private as we’d have liked. That aside, we did have a lovely time.

Plenty of space for everyone. House was very cosy and welcoming. Everyone loved the hot tub and gardens. Log burners were made ready but we didn't need them as the house was warm enough with the central heating. Only very minor issue we couldn't use the BBQ hut as we weren't aware that we need to order the charcoal with the owners and owing to the time of year we couldn't find any in the shops. Would recommend Carr House and we will definitely be back.

The owners couldn't do enough to make sure we had everything we needed plus a few extra's. It was extremely clean and welcoming. Everything was explained to us together with a well thought out book of instructions. The board games that were left was brilliant for the wet days that we had even though we still managed to get in the hot tub and have a BBQ. Everything you needed and more. It was pouring down with rain all weekend but that didn't stop us using the great facilities such as hot tub, barbeque hut and games room. The living rooms in the house are cosy and comfortable and the bedrooms are lovely and airy. There was 10 of us staying and it was great all sitting in the conservatory eating our meals looking out at the splendid views. We went to local pub on the Saturday night which was only a 5 minute taxi ride away. There was a rock singer on and we had brilliant time. Definitely recommend this place.

  • "Yes. The cottage was lovely and the outside area was fabulous, however the cottage is advertised as having 6 'deluxe' bedrooms, and unfortunately this is not the case."

There are 5 nice bedrooms, and one room that is 4 foot wide in total with a single bed in that is 2 foot 6 wide. There were 9 adults on this holiday, one of which had to sleep in a 2 foot 6 bed. This was extremely uncomfortable and not really acceptable as we booked this cottage based on the information provided, which is totally inaccurate. I would like a response to this please. We also felt although the owners were very pleasant, they were very intrusive. Coming over to water plants, service the hot tub daily, and also cutting the grass. Surely if you rent a property, with the amount we paid we should be left in private?

Thank you for your feedback; we are very sorry that you found the bedroom to be uncomfortable and can only apologise if you felt the owner's were intrusive during your stay; this is not feedback we have received before. All properties require maintenance therefore, the owner cut the grass while your party were out for a meal and for health and safety purposes, the hot tub needs to be maintained daily but again, we can only apologise if you felt inconvenienced by this. Thanks again for your comments. Property Owner

Some modern rooms, some traditional. Lots of space. Beautiful views. BBQ area is fantastic as is the hot tub. Only downsides were that it's not very clearly sign posted so a few of us drove past it! Also the hot tub is not covered if it rains and we couldn't really sit in it on our only full day and night as it wouldn't go any higher than 35 degrees so was quite cold. Overall though, a fantastic weekend!!

We made use of the map and tourist information kindly left by the owner and went on a lovely walk from the house to the river and back again. The hot tub and games room including pool table and darts board were a great touch. The indoor fire pit/barbecue in particular was a popular facility for us, especially now the nights get so cold. My only criticism was a loose paving slab that unfortunately I tripped over and sprained my ankle, I’m hoping this will be fixed soon to avoid further injuries.
