"This property is unique in its amazing location and the sympathetic way in which it has been developed within such a spectacular setting- including the very special garden area."
I was able to leave my car safely parked for the entire week while I walked every day from the house through countless trails in all directions. Dol itself is a 45 minute charming level walk along the Mawdach Trail. Of course you can drive but you do not have to. You also have the George a few minutes down the private woodland lane. Special thanks to Ryan, the owner, for all the support he provided which was never intrusive. A perfect mountain retreat. I would love to return already!

"Y Bwthyn is a perfect little hideaway for 2."
The outside space is peaceful and lovely. The cottage has a lovely bedroom and en suite and the living area is cosy but we'll played out. Having read reviews that say the sofa isn't very comfortable I can confirm this and quite small when youre both sat on it. Its fine fir one of you to stretch out, we planned ahead and took.onw of our comfortable garden chairs so we had a nice comfy seat to use as well. We would stay again, this area of Snowdonia is exceptionally pretty.

"Lovely location in a quiet area though it was hard to find initially."
It’s small but well provisioned, decorated and maintained. The garden area was beautiful, as were the views.
The staircase was a bit startling, being very narrow and spiral, especially if you are elderly or have any slight physical difficulty.

"Form over function, looked impressive on the photos but the reality is very different."
2 of the 3 shower room spotlight were dim so at first, because of the dark tiling and poor light, we didn’t realise how filthy the shower walls were! The sink had no plug which the owner said he’d removed because someone flooded the room, the sink was useless as a wash basin it was a small cloakroom hand basin. The spiral stairs were too narrow (were both slim) to safely carry stuff up and down. The bed was ok but against the window wall and higher than the window cill. The window opened inwards so, in the event of fire, if you couldn’t get down the spiral stairs you’d had to remove the mattress first so you could open the window to get out (you’d probably need to throw the mattress out for something to land on! Very smart hand made kitchen cupboards, nicely finished but dirty inside, especially the higher shelves. Inadequate utensils for proper self catering. If you used the wood burner, as we had to, it’s impossible not to fill the bedroom with smoke and fumes.
Someone who ate out all of the time wouldn’t be bothered, assuming the cleanliness and safety issues were corrected, so to them this might seem a bit picky.

It was the perfect size for us and our two dogs. The location was perfect and secluded and there were gorgeous walks right out of the front door. The owner was on hand to answer any questions you had and was very welcoming. We walked for miles and will definitely be returning (we have booked agin for next year!) Many thanks for a lovely stay

"Absolutely beautiful cottage in a stunning area!"
Loved the shower room!
And the most comfortable bed! Lovely to wake up, open the window and listen to the little waterfall outside.
Gorgeous outside area although a little chilly in evenings to use but I can imagine sitting out here in the summer months.

Very cozy and warm for a couple and their pets. All the modern amenities are there, hob oven TV and wi-fi plus the outside areas for alfresco dining and parking areas.

Garden space was great ,lovely on a sunny evening. Stairs could be a little tricky if you had mobility issues but fine for us 60+ couple.

"Lovely cottage, enjoyed a three day stay here."
Great location with beautiful surroundings. Just a few things I think would make the cottage even better: some coat hooks and shoe rack to put coats and shoes after a muddy walk. A blind on the bathroom window for a bit of privacy. Overall a great stay and would definitely return.

"The only things(very minor) we can think to share is you could do with somewhere to hang a coat, and the sofa is really uncomfortable after a while."

"Suited us really well."
Property very clean, well designed and had everything we needed. Owner helpful and easy to contact. Lovely quiet position surrounded by birdsong and close to an excellent pub in the estuary. We didn’t find the spiral staircase a problem but I suppose could be awkward if mobility an issue.

"A little gem of a cottage with fantastic outdoor facilities and glorious woodland settings one of the best we have stayed at , the narrow spiral staircase could be a problem for some as was the drive to the cottage, but the advantages were that we were in the heart of North Wales, short distance from the George 111 Hotel that provides excellent food and drink , we could have done with a small heater or radiator downstairs as not convenient to light the log burner before breakfast overall an excellent place to stay, hope to go back."

"The cottage is really nice, well thought out and generally comfy."
Just a couple of observations though, it could do with coat hooks in the living area as there is nowhere to hang your coat if it rains. It could also do with a larger sofa. It's a bit snug and not big enough. After a while it start to get really uncomfortable. Apart from that all was good and we will definitely be back.

"The property was in a lovely location, and was of high quality."
However, it was a bit disappointing that there was no welcome pack at all, one loo roll provided for 5 day stay and no hand wash in the bathroom, all minor issues but given the cost I think you’d think these may be included. The couch is small and meant that comfort was missing from downstairs area. However the kitchen had good facilities and all you could need and the bedroom was nice too! Being near the George pub and trail - such a pretty setting, was ideal. Overall a lovely break and stay.

"What a lovely modern cottage ideal for 2."
Quite a home from home. Lovely and quiet location with a great outdoor space.
Great walks from the property.
The spiral staircase is quite different, however is very narrow, which could pose a problem with some people.
Would recommend and wouldn't hesitate to return.

"We really enjoyed our holiday at this cottage."
It’s small but cozy, even with our two whippets! The cottage has everything you need with a well-equipped kitchen and a modern bathroom. The best part was probably the enclosed outside area with a roofed seating space. We had a lovely barbecue and sat by the fire when it got colder. The location is amazing and it was easy to get to all the main hikes. It’s also just a 5 min walk to a fantastic pub - George III - by the quaint toll bridge over the estuary. The host was very helpful and quick to respond too. Although it wasn’t a problem for me, the only thing was that the spiral staircase was very steep and rather narrow, which my partner found a bit harder to navigate. Overall, though, we and our hounds loved our holiday at Y Bwthyn. Thank you for having us!

"We had a wonderful stay at Y Bwthyn."
The property has been cleverly renovated and has almost all it needs for a very comfortable stay. The garden is perfect and made our stay! We enjoyed lovely evenings sat outside with our dogs, and everything has been thought of in terms of outdoor comfort. In the cottage, there are a few things that would be helpful (e.g a hand towel upstairs and downstairs, a place to hang coats) but more importantly, I feel the owners and Sykes need to provide more information to potential visitors on the spiral staircase in the property. Living in a home with a spiral staircase, we thought it would be fine but it is a very narrow, steep spiral staircase which takes time and care to navigate. Not necessarily an issue, but it needs to be made clear so that future visitors can decide for themselves if it will pose them an issue.
The area is gorgeous and as locals ourselves, we’d recommend the Mawddach trail, the Torrent Walk Hotel in Dolgellau and the George for drinks and food!
