The property

Littleport 6.8 miles.

Hazel is a pleasant shepherd’s hut resting in Welney, Norfolk.

Tucked within the owner’s garden, it’s a simple, well-arranged base for guests who like their breaks pared back and close to the countryside, while still keeping a welcoming pub within reach (please note it is not open on a Monday & Tuesday, and would advise pre-booking a Sunday Lunch).

Step inside and you’ll find everything set out in one inviting, open-plan space.

A double bed sits alongside a small dining area, perfect for lingering over a slow breakfast before heading out for the day.

The kitchenette keeps self-catering straightforward, equipped with a combi microwave/oven, fridge, and kettle for easy meals, packed lunches, and hot drinks whenever the weather calls for them.

Freshen up in the shower room, complete with a walk-in shower, basin, and WC, ideal after a day of walking, wildlife-spotting, and roaming the lanes.

Outside, the garden furniture invites you to take your morning coffee into the open air or enjoy supper as the light softens, with the chance to spot the owner’s chickens, sheep, and friendly Shetland pony.

Bringing a dog along?

One well-behaved companion is welcome, so you can share your Norfolk adventure together.

Set in the small fenland village of Welney, Norfolk, Hazel places guests at the heart of a landscape shaped by wide skies and waterways.

The village is best known for the WWT Welney Wetland Centre, where seasonal birdlife, walking routes, and panoramic views across the Ouse Washes offer rewarding days out for nature lovers.

Gentle riverside paths and quiet lanes make the area well-suited to relaxed walks, while a welcoming village pub sits within easy reach for an evening meal.

For a change of scene, head to Ely, home to its striking cathedral and riverside walks along the Great Ouse, or spend time in King’s Lynn, exploring historic streets, the old quay, and independent shops.

Further afield, Cambridge provides punting on the River Cam, celebrated architecture, and museums, rounding out a stay with culture, wildlife, and varied day trips.

However you plan your time, Hazel makes a handy base for exploring.

Note: This property can be booked with ref. 1204124, together sleeping up to 4 people.
