  • "The location of this property was great for a short stay."

The apartment had signs of wear and some general replacement of items would help (rusty shower rail, broken blinds (note left), old/broken key safe. The bedding (not covers) was stained and needs replacing (these points are noted in previous feedback and have not been actioned despite minimal cost). The blinds have not been dusted in some time and there was as large stain on the floor in one room. Standard of cleaning could have been better but was not terrible (throw on bed had dog hairs all over). It is advertised for pets so probably to be expected but this should have been changed and not recycled for the next guests with no pets. The bathroom fan was noisy at times and screeched one time in the night when using the toilet. The instructions on Sykes were not correct as they key fob for the gates was in the apartment and not key safe (they key safe front fell off when when opened it - not really secure). This was not easy to navigate on a dark night with poor lighting and a door that has a knack to open (not good for those with arthritis/pain in hands). It was in a quiet location and served its purpose for us, but would probably not return.

  • "Had a lovely stay here."

There wasn't a single thing in the apartment that wasn't catered for. Very clean and comfortable. Perfect location, lovely and peaceful but within easy walking distance of lots to do and places to visit. Kitchen blinds were a bit dodgy but there was a note on saying a replacement had been ordered so fair enough. Really lovely apartment and would definitely return..

  • "We were very impressed how clean and well equipped the property was, My only advice would be change shower guard as it leaks badly, also When l took the covers off the double bed, l was very surprised to see That the duvet was badly stained also pillows need replacing,l took my own bedding and was glad l did ,l feel this such a shame as it’s a lovely property, in and the rest it was really clean."

We also loved the position of the property it was so close to all ameanaties.

  • "On arrival it was impossible to open front door so used back one or patio doors."

It was freezing cold, there was no water in boiler so no hot water and no heating. Instructions in pack and note on boiler explained how to refill. however only screwdriver was tiny electrical one so we had to go and buy one. Spoke eventually to owner who just kept saying it was all right 2 weeks ago and was serviced in October, not helpful, and knew nothing about note on boiler. Heating took at least 3 hours to warm place. Also broken sill on back door and very deep step down. We had driven for 5 hours, are in our seventies and i had my arm in plaster. Fortunately my son came over to help us. I find it strange that instructions are needed to refill boiler, not sort of thing you expect to have to do on holiday. There was also a hint in conversation that, as it was ok 2 wks previous it might be down to us? Would definitely not go back here.

  • "As with all the other Sykes' properties we have stayed at over the last few years, Whistle Stop Apartments exceeded our expectations!"

It was very spacious, spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable! We particularly liked the rather large private area immediately outside the apartment where we could relax in the brilliant sunshine after a hard day on the beach! We also liked the apartment's location adjacent to the quay and the harbour.

  • "Unable to get access to property on arrival as key wasn’t in key lock."

Then had difficulty getting through to helpline as calls were going straight to voicemail. Eventually got into property three hours after arrival. Lock to front door difficult to operate, in the end used patio doors to get into and out of property. This had been mentioned on previous reviews.

  • "Absolutely loved the Whistle Stop."

We've stayed at other Sykes apartments in the vicinity which are all just as amazing, but this one is definitely #1 for us now. Seen a couple of reviews regarding cleanliness issues and other things, but we genuinely found nothing wrong during our stay. Comfortable apartment, great working facilities, perfect harbour views, brilliant night sleeps, the list goes on... Will definitely be coming again soon and recommending this place to people we know who wish to stay in such a perfectly situated apartment in a perfect harbour town that is honestly a second home to us now. 10/10.

Thank you and pleased you had an amazing time. Look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "It was really disappointing that the property still had a pile of rusty patio furniture dumped on the ground outside and a very rusty shower rack in the bathroom."

These have been flagged up in previous reviews and there is no justification for not sorting them out, a decent stainless steel shower rack is going to cost less than £25, I do realise patio furniture is a more substantial investment however the aluminium/stainless steel sets as used by the other holiday cottages on site are not that expensive and don't rust, even a wooden bench would be better than nothing. On the plus side the sofa's did not seem that uncomfortable to us as these have been mentioned on previous reviews. A great location in Porthmadog with easy parking and a nice feel to the development, property is well equipped although needs better cleaning/maintenance as hairballs under the sofas etc, basin plug does not hold the water in and the door stops although a good idea would be allot better being the traditional wedge shaped ones rather than a piece of wood. Good comfortable beds and lots of storage space in the bedrooms, would be useful to have more storage space in the kitchen cupboards so maybe supply less wine glasses? We would stay there again and do recommend the property to stay in but please sort out the patio furniture and the rusty shower rack!

  • "Location 10/10 Apartment 5/10 needs attention on the following: very rusty wall rack and towel rail in bathroom, settee falling to bits and very uncomfortable, fridge doesn’t seem to be working as worktop gets very warm above fridge, patio set is just left on floor outside apartment rusty and not usable ( others have commented and still nothing has been done."

So it looks like this is just another review to add to the collection.

Hi, Thanks for your feedback. We are awaiting delivery of new patio furniture and sofas which we are hoping to be delivered by the end of the month. Property Owner

  • "The location of the apartment is wonderful, with private parking space."

Bedrooms beautiful and comfortable. Lots of wardrobe and drawer space. Big bath with over shower and great hot water. Needs rusty metal wall shelf replacing. Comfy lounge. WiFi about 95% on line. Kitchen had everything we needed. Our only disappointment was the outside patio furniture which was very, very rusty and not usable. Better to remove it completely and not advertise, or replace it. We would go back again.

  • "Cushions on sofas were a little flat."

The instructions for accessing the courtyard by car that we received beforehand, stated that there was a key safe and the fob to open the gates to allow the car through was in this key safe. it was not. We couldn't open the front door with the key provided either. I got the car into the parking area by using the other gateway and accessed the property through patio doors. The fob for the security gate was on the microwave and the instructions inside the property informed us to return it to the top of the microwave when leaving. Conflicting instructions . . . . we had a fantastic mini break and it did not detract from the overall experience. Will definitely book again.

The front door needs replacing but to be fair the owner left a note stating that a new one has been ordered and they are awaiting installation. The only other thing I could fault was the wire rack in the shower was a bit rusty. The location is excellent, the property was warm and the bed was comfortable. Would have no hesitation in staying here again.
