  • "Ideal for people who enjoy walking and don't mind using the car to get around sightseeing but for the less active there is limited facilities as there not any village store within 3-4 miles for a paper or essentials so unless you have all you need it's restricted."

Marion and John the hosts you will not meet a more welcoming couple, friendly, knowledgeable and the perfect hosts for a holiday break to relax and enjoy a rest.

  • "Lovely cottage in a quiet village with lots of walking routes in the area and very near to places of interest."

Helmsley, Castle Howard, Ampleforth, York and several National Trust properties only a short drive away. The lovely cottage had everything you could need and was warm and cosy, ideal for a winter break. There was a bottle of wine and a lovely cake to welcome us to the property and the owners who were nearby are happy to help if you require any information. We can highly recommend this property

  • "Cartwheel Cottage was comfortable, clean, peaceful, and had easy parking."

The owners were very helpful and friendly, and their four-legged family an added bonus! I queried whether there was a microwave or not, before arrival, as different websites had different information on this. There wasn't, but they put one in for my stay. For people with limited mobility but not wheelchair users, there is one small step up into the cottage, which I found perfectly manageable with M.E/CFS. There is a short walk from the car parking area to the cottage, but on one level and a hard surface. Wifi was non-existent within the property during my stay - the owners in their advertising are transparent about wifi issues - but I believe there would have been reception from in front of the house had I tried that. However the EE network and data was perfectly sufficient, and I managed to tether my iPad to my phone for those times when I wanted to check local online maps, opening times of places, etc. Nothing else matters while on holiday. I would happily return.

  • "8 dogs at property barking at night."

    Kennels outside.

Thank you for your feedback, we are really sorry that you were disturbed by dogs in a neighbourung property during your stay, as advised this was due to one of the dogs being in season and had caused a little bit of a stir with the other dogs, unfortunately this is beyond anyone's control. We are glad that despite this you did enjoy your stay and your days out whilst you were here and did take advantage of the all the amenities provided, including welcome hamper of homemade cakes, flowers and wine. • "We have just spent a memorable week at Cartwheel Cottage."

We were made to feel extremely welcome by the owners Marion, John and Jules. The cottage is excellent for two people who like ourselves enjoy the countryside and peace and tranquillity. It is well placed for exploring the Howardian Hills, Ryedale and the North York Moors. There are plenty of places to visit including English Heritage and National Trust properties as well as local attractions such as the Ryedale Folk Museum ahd the Yorkshire Arboretum. None of these attractions are very far away from the cottage. We will definately return to Cartwheel Cottage.

  • "We had a very pleasant stay in a very comfortable cottage."

The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Cottage was well equipped, plenty of room for the two of us and well located to explore a large part of the moors and also the coast. RSPB Bempton Cliffs and RHS Harlow Carr are also within driving distance as is York. Although not a pub in Yearlsey there are plenty of eating options nearby to accommodate a range of budgets. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage and would return again if we came back to this part of Yorkshire.

Beautiful and peaceful. The cottage was just perfect, clean, organized with a well thought out design . Attention to the finer things in life, such as quality silverware and a wonderful small dining table with fantastic chairs, pure class. The bed was unbelievably comfortable with luxurious bedding, it provided a fine nights sleep. The shower was first class, with the lovely added touches of shower gels, and toiletries. The wine and home made cake was amazing! But the most impressive part was the friendly welcome from Marion, John and Jules. They have gone above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We have made a special connection with Murphy, the dog he's 17 years old, cute as a button with bags of character. We will definitely be coming back. Thankyou so much!
