The property

The Cottage is a traditional cottage set in Giggleswick, North Yorkshire.

Offering a pet-friendly for families and friends looking to explore the Yorkshire Dales National Park and its surrounding villages, boasting a toasty woodburning stove, nearby amenities and an enclosed garden.

Arriving along the roadside, park the car and take a moment to appreciate the village setting before making your way down the side towards the property, where a step leads you up into the gate and onwards to the entrance.

Another step carries you into the kitchen, setting the tone for a characterful stay.

Inside, the space invites you to settle in straight away, with the double electric oven, halogen hob, and a range of appliances ready for preparing easy breakfasts or evening meals, whether that is fresh coffee brewed as the morning begins or something warming after a day outdoors.

Gather around the dining space to share food and conversation as plans begin to unfold.

Continue through to the sitting room, where the atmosphere shifts to relaxation.

Walk across the tiled flooring to find a seating arrangement of a sofa and armchairs gathered around a woodburning stove set within a stone fireplace, where the glow of the fire creates an inviting focal point as you unwind with a book or settle in front of the mounted TV.

Artwork lines the walls, adding character to the space, while the back door opens out to the garden, encouraging an easy flow between indoors and out.

Climb the open wooden staircase to reach the first floor, where two bedrooms await.

The king-size offers a restful space to retreat to at the end of the day, complete with wardrobe storage, while the twin room, with its set of drawers, provides a flexible option for children or friends.

The family bathroom completes the interior, where tiled flooring continues the sense of continuity and practicality, with the option of a soak in the bath or a refreshing shower after time spent exploring the surrounding countryside.

Step outside to the rear garden, where a paved seating area framed by planted pots creates a pleasant spot to begin the morning with a drink or return to in the evening, the bistro table, chairs, and bench offering a place to pause and enjoy the fresh air.

From here, you are also within easy reach of a welcoming village pub, a local shop, and gentle riverside walks nearby.

Head into Settle, where independent shops and traditional cafés line the streets, the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway offers scenic journeys through the landscape, and nearby walking routes lead into limestone countryside.

Spend time in Malham, where the dramatic curve of Malham Cove rises above the landscape, the path to Janet’s Foss reveals a secluded waterfall setting, and Gordale Scar presents a striking natural gorge to explore.

In Skipton, stroll beside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, step inside the historic Skipton Castle to explore its preserved interiors, and browse a range of independent shops and market stalls that bring character to the town.

The Cottage is a relaxing retreat from which to explore the Dales.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

GIGGLESWICK

Settle 0.8 mile; Malham 7.3 miles; Skipton 16.2 miles.

The delightful, Ribblesdale village of Giggleswick lies below a limestone scar (part of the Craven fault) and is just across the river from the bustling market town of Settle. It’s an incredibly pretty place with sturdy houses and cottages, many dating back to the 17th century, as the ‘date stones’ over their doorways will confirm. Today the village is still centred around the beautiful St Alkelda’s church, which dates back to the 12th century, and the well-known landmark of the domed chapel at the famous Giggleswick School, which dominates the village skyline. Giggleswick itself has two pubs, Harts Head Hotel, and The Black Horse Inn, whilst a wide range of amenities can be found in the nearby market town of Settle, possible to reach on foot. Further afield is the town of Ingleton with its splendid waterfall walk, and of course (for the serious walker) the Three Peaks are nearby, dotted across the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
