The property

Rowantree Cottage is a charming detached thatched cottage situated near Northumberland National Park in the quaint village of Kirk Yetholm, Scottish Borders.

With roadside parking, enclosed garden, warming open-fire and a welcoming atmosphere for families and up to three well-behaved dogs, it offers an idyllic retreat for small families or friends.

A small lawn to the front of this bright thatched cottage adds a splash of colour, with the rolling hills behind offering a gentle reminder of the landscape waiting to be explored.

Step inside and begin your stay in the galley kitchen, where white beams and wooden countertops create a warm, practical space for preparing meals or morning coffee.

Whether you're packing a picnic for a day on the trails or rustling up dinner after a countryside ramble, the kitchen flows naturally into the rest of the cottage, making everyday moments feel effortless.

From the kitchen, move into the living/dining room, where a cast-iron fire with a wooden mantle anchors the space.

Deep green accents in the armchairs and feature wall echo the surrounding landscape, while a fluffy carpet underfoot and whimsical furnishings—pictures on the walls, soft textures, and a drop-leaf dining table—create a space that feels both inviting and full of character.

Whether you're enjoying a slow supper or a quick bite before heading out, the dining table becomes a natural gathering spot.

A Smart TV is tucked into the sitting area, perfect for winding down with a film or catching up on your favourite series after a day of exploring.

The bathroom continues the cottage’s character, with deep green colours, exposed beams, and a traditional bath with overhead shower—perfect for unwinding before bed.

Two bedrooms offer peaceful places to rest.

The king-size room features a rustic wooden four-poster bed and wallpaper adorned with Shakespeare quotes, adding a thoughtful touch to your retreat.

A TV here makes long lie-ins all the more tempting when your body calls for a slower start.

In the second bedroom, a feature wall and thoughtful furnishings create a gentle, welcoming atmosphere.

Both rooms are designed to soothe after long days outdoors.

Outside, the enclosed rear garden is a layered delight.

Stone steps lead to a second swinging seat nestled among greenery, inviting you to pause and take in the soft rustle of leaves or the distant call of birds.

As the sun warms the patio, you might enjoy a leisurely lunch outdoors or simply stretch out with a good book and let the afternoon drift by.

With scenic walking and cycling routes right from the doorstep, Rowantree Cottage is a wonderful base for exploring the Borders—especially with dogs in tow.

Whether you're tracing trails through Northumberland National Park or wandering the quiet lanes around Kirk Yetholm, the landscape offers something new with every turn.

Discover the splendid beauty and history of Kirk Yetholm by visiting the grand Floors Castle, with its exquisite gardens and remarkable architecture that reflects the real essence of Scotland.

Make a trip to the Heatherslaw Light Railway for a delightful adventure; enjoy a leisurely whistle-stop ride through the beautiful Northumbrian countryside before making your way to the fascinating Etal Castle.

TOWN YETHOLM AND KIRK YETHOLM

Cornhill-on-Tweed 4 miles; Coldstream 6 miles.

The two villages of Town Yetholm and Kirk Yetholm are situated half a mile apart on either side of the River Bowmont, at the north end of the Pennine Way. Once providing a route through the hills into England, the villages are named 'Yetholm' after the Scottish 'yet', meaning 'gate' and the Anglo Saxon 'holm' or 'ham', meaning 'settlement', essentially 'place at the gate'. Both villages boast good pubs serving excellent food, small shops and a gift shop. Within easy reach are Cornhill-on-Tweed, a small, agricultural village and the town of Coldstream, which lies on the northern bank of the world famous River Tweed, with both offering good, real ale pubs and a selection of shops. The major visitor attractions of north Northumberland and the Scottish Borders are within easy driving distance, including the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne with its excellent shopping and night life, Edinburgh, Alnwick, with its famous Treehouse and Gardens, Bamburgh and its beaches, Holy Island and of course, the beautiful Northumberland National Park.
