  • "Lovely property, clean and comfortable and the best equipped holiday home we have stayed in."

The snooker table in the garage was a hit with both the big kids and little kids, while the balcony was lovely to sit and watch the sunrise with a cuppa or if you are lucky enough, as we were, to see the Northern lights and meteor shower. All in all a lovely property and not too far away from Alnwick, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and all the other places of interest.

thank you for these kind words. I am very glad you had a lovely holiday and the whole family enjoyed themselves. Property Owner

  • "Rathowen is located in a ideal location to explore the beaches and local areas."

Nice, spacious and warm house. Clean and very comfy beds. The master bedroom was very big and the en-suite was a nice surprise behind sliding mirror doors to match the sliding mirror wardrobe doors. Plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery, pans and other kitchen equipment but some items were dirty. The only other thing i would say needs improving is a larger parking area and a wider entrance for a bigger car to be able to reverse in safely.

Lovely located house with plenty of rooms all nice and clean with a very well equipped kitchen. Great area for walking - visited all the lovely places - Seahouses, Bamburgh, Holy Island and ate out a lot! Weather was really good for February. Will return. Thank you.

Thank you for the lovely feedback. I am so glad you enjoyed your holiday and I look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "The house was in a wonderful position right on the seafront, with lovely sea views."

It was a very spacious, comfortable and warm house, which was needed as the week we stayed the weather was very cold. The previous tenant had expressed her thoughts that there may be bed bugs at the property, which worried me greatly. We stayed for the week and found no sign of bugs at all and suffered no bites. I would be very happy to return to the house again.

Thank you for your comments. As you can imagine these are very much appreciated. i am glad you enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

  • "Behind the doors in the bathrooms the skirting boards were very dusty and that's me being polite."

Bathroom windows were stuffed with paper as their were big gaps the down stairs toilet had a brown stain on the ceiling with another wet patch appearing. Again full of cobwebs and dirty skirting boards. I got bit all over my body that was not covered with my nightshirt I think bed bugs. Under very close inspection I do a couple but very hard to see. Ankles and arms and neck got bitten so did my husband. But the beds were very comfortable due to bed toppers. On the whole the house was comfortable but we just happen to have a windy wet night that blew through the drafty windows. Get those few problems fixed and it will make a great holiday home. I'm sorry to have to mention bed bugs but some body could have fetched them with them.

Thank you for review detailing these issues. I am sorry you have had cause to raise them . We are instructing the management agent to review all window fittings. The agent has already addressed the cleaning issues with the cleaners. I am sorry you had to raise this. We have had no previous issues with alleged bed bugs but I will personally look into this this weekend and deal with it appropriately using a professional service. I am awaiting the application of a new leak proof membrane on the balcony outside the main bedroom which is the cause of the internal leakage and staining in the downstairs cloakroom and porch. I commissioned roofers in November to do the work but because of the very inclement recent weather (wind and rain) this has had to be forestalled for safety reasons. The roofers are hoping to get the work done next week which again will rectify this problem. This will be followed up by a professional redecoration to make good. Once again, thank you for raising these matters. I hope that this experience did not spoil your break with us. update as of 09/01/2024 Further, we have been staying in the house since Sunday and can report there are absolutely no problems with bed bugs. i have stripped all beds, sofas etc and rigorously hoovered all fabrics. No bugs were present. The cloakroom window has been tightened and there are no drafts noted. The skirting boards have been cleaned. Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rathowen, which was clean, comfortable and very convenient."

We loved the view of the sea just across the road and the beautiful sandy beach at Beadnell Bay, only a short walk away. We also enjoyed trips to nearby Bamburgh and Lindisfarne and a magnificent boat trip to the Farne Islands from Seahouses. The property itself was generally very well furnished and maintained, the only two minor negative comments being: 1 There was no colander in the kitchen, which made it difficult to wash salad vegetables etc. 2 One of the dining chairs was broken. This was not a problem for us as we were only a party of seven but it could have been awkward if there had been another person. But thank you for a lovely holiday. We would certainly be very happy to return to Rathowen.

About the location

BEADNELL

Seahouses 1.5 miles; Bamburgh 5 miles.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.
