  • "This is an amazing gem of a holiday retreat."

Appreciated the privacy that was afforded by my very friendly host. Cottage is immaculately clean and equipped really well. It was warm and cosy on the days it snowed, and the garden a real sun trap when I was out there slapping factor 50 sun lotion on... all in the same week. Lovely wee touches like fresh eggs, milk, ground coffee and tea and biscuits on arrival. Great base for day trips or just chilling out. Will definitely be back!

Hi Sabine, thank you for your lovely feedback. Wondering what I could do to make the listing more accurate? Cheers Jane Property Owner

Every thing we needed was in the cottage so if rest is on your agenda, you’ll not need to go out u lees it’s milk you want. The garden is dog friendly but we needed to keep ours on a long lead as he could just walk over the fence, with sheep in the field this was our most concern. We enjoyed the peace and the rest away from the hubbub of daily life and our first holiday since lockdown, would we go back again the answer is yes

The cottage is very comfortable and very well equipped with all you need for a relaxing break. The garden has lovely views across open countryside. The village pub, the Cross Inn, is excellent. The Riverside cafe in Tweedmouth is great for breakfast and lunch - very friendly, delicious home cooked food, large portions. Both dog friendly. We particularly enjoyed visits to Kelso, Dunbar, Eyemouth and Spittal beach. Our second stay and will be back again.

When we arrived there was a 'Welcome Pack' containing luxury biscuits, bread, eggs , milk etc and my favourite Scottish Fine Soaps toiletries in the bathroom. We were so fortunate to have sunshine all week, which added to the enjoyment. Lovely, helpful owners, an immaculate property. Thank you so much for letting us stay. Tracy and Kenn

  • "We had a pleasant week in the Turkey House, which is peacefully set in lovely countryside."

The owners live next door, so at hand if you need anything but the cottage is very private, with views over the fields. We mostly eat in on holiday, and the kitchen is very well equipped indeed. We had to have the heating on a couple of times (Scotland in August, not unexpected!) and the place heated up very quickly. Excellent hot water too. There are seats and a table outside should you be fortunate with the weather. One pouring wet day we went to Berwick upon Tweed, which is only about six miles away and has supermarkets, cafes etc, and is also very much worth a visit anyway, as it is a very interesting place. We had our bikes with us and were able to cycle straight out the door into the quiet lanes - two pubs in villages a mile or two away are easy to visit. There are also details of local walks in a folder in the cottage. It was wonderful to get a holiday after everything that has been going on, and we had a lovely week here.

It was our first break since lockdown and we were slightly apprehensive, but we needn’t have worried. The cottage is in a lovely, quiet, setting overlooking fields and we enjoyed sitting in the sun on the patio and then, after dark, stargazing. The owners were nearby, very friendly, but not intrusive and we appreciated the welcome pack of fresh eggs, milk, bread and butter. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well-appointed. A good base for exploring the Scottish Borders and over into Northumberland. So many fantastic places to visit.

Finding the property was easy, it was nicely secluded even though it is on the owners land and for being a cottage there was plenty of space for us to relax in the cottage with a very warmly feeling. During our stay we explored as much as we could but did not have time to fully explore and we look forward to returning in the near future to continue exploring. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful property.

  • "Whilst the cottage outwardly looked wonderful and the hosts left us provisions we were not expecting there were some things we were not comfortable with ."

The first was that there was no lock on the porch in which coats, shoes and other out door equipment was left .The main door into the house was difficult to open and there was some evidence of forced entry/entries being made. We did ask the hosts about the lock on the porch which they said had never had a key but it was a solid double glazed door with a multi point lock similar to our home front door and this certainly has a workable lock. The new electric fire could not be controlled remotely as the batteries had failed and although we told the hosts on our first day there, they did not provide any new batteries but did say we could use the manual override. There were other small things which needed attention and we left a list of these so they could be rectified.

Thank you for your feedback. In regards to your concerns raised, the lock on the porch door has been fixed by a locksmith and we can assure you there has never been any attempts at forced entry by persons unknown to us. The remote to the Electric Fire now has new batteries and is fully operational. Once again many thanks for your valuable feedback. Property Owner

Far from the madding Crowd comes to mind! although not true of the "Far" as Berwick upon Tweed is really so close and full of lovely independent artisan shops -a great wee town. A good stepping off point for touring. The owner Jane was very helpful in directing us to the house after the Sat Nav led us on a wild goose chase - don't follow Sat Nav but, be guided by the directions attached to the details of the house on the Sykes website. Jane had so kindly left us a number of goodies to consume which was very much appreciated.

The wood burner stated in cottage description is incorrect it is not a wood burner but a electric fire with artificial logs. Apart from that we had a great holiday and the cottage was spotless and well equipped and the views across the fields beautiful.

Thank you for your comments, I am sorry to hear you had disruption to Wifi during your stay, this has now been checked and is working fine. We have updated the description to show the wood burner is electric. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the rest of your holiday and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner
