  • "Although main bedroom window fixed, toaster replaced and lounge curtains replaced, on arrival no hand soap in both WC's (Not very hygienic for when you first arrive before unpacking after 4pm check-in."

) No logs/coal found for the wood burner and no welcome pack, last year it was very much appreciated. We rang both contact numbers but young lady was not helpful and referred us to the booking conditions. Bedding on both twin beds was stained and did not feel clean and fresh. In general house cleaning could be better, pity as cost of stay is not cheap due to it's location.

Fantastic location on the edge of the village with great access to the shops and beach.

  • "Location was fantastic."

Great views of Bamburgh and from the garden the countryside. Garden was beautiful. Fully enclosed and well maintained. One of the reasons we booked. Space in the bedrooms is a bit limited but more than made up for by the space downstairs. Television in one bedrooom an unexpected bonus. One of the best equipped kitchens I have come across. Also well stocked with cleaning materials. Dishwasher wasn't working but we were notified of repair date prior to arrival. A good policy. Tumble dryer had a fault half way through stay. This was dealt with promptly. Could do with a new fridge freezer. Should mention that there are adjoining properties - not that this affected our stay at all. Would certainly come again.

  • "A couple of little niggles as per some previous reviews."

No bin liners and no blue bin were findable so we had some trouble disposing of rubbish. A recommendation would be to leave one bag of logs on the hearth and a welcome bottle of wine. However the most important fact of any review is “would you book it again?”. YES,YES and a super resounding YES!!! The house had everything we needed and the location was exceptional. THE best location in the village. So quiet and peaceful.Highland cattle, a horse and sheep and their lambs all just off the very private (and very secure, for our french bulldog) garden with the spectacular back drop of Bamburgh castle. A 5mins walk to the village pubs/restaurant or the beach. We walked from the property along the beach to seahouses, about 3miles,did a pub crawl of 6 pubs and got a taxi back. A superb relaxing last day option as we had travelled about on 3 of our 5days in Bamburgh. One other message for the owner. If you ever think of selling up please give me a call. I’d sell up down south and be up there in a whistle! What a beautiful spot. I’m in my 50’s and have been all over the UK in holiday cottages for over 30yrs. This and place in Tenby are the only 2 out of 70 or 80 properties I’d buy and die in. Thank you for our stay. Chris H. Reading, Berks.

  • "The property was fantastic."

We were so pleased that the heating issue was resolved. We did have a very upsetting Boxing day when the agent told us there was an issue. We ended up just coming ourselves (2 of us) as our parents are old and we could not risk the chance that the property would be cold. But my husband and I enjoyed our stay very much. It was just a shame that the notice was so close to our departure.

  • "Overall Jara is a lovely property in a great setting."

Loads of space and light, comfortable and great garden. However there are several shortcomings that need addressing. Reading previous reviews it is clear that some of these have been flagged before (on more than one occasion) but still not addressed. I called the agency (Northumbria Coast & Country Cottages) in advance to check on some of these and after being told they would get back to me they failed to do so. Towards the end of our stay I emailed the agency in detail about various issues as I preferred to communicate directly rather than via a public review, however this was not even acknowledged hence this review. Issue flagged are listed below: 1) Still no breadknife despite this being flagged by previous visitors and me phoning in advance to ascertain whether one had been acquired. Not exactly a disaster but disappointing. We bought one from the hardware shop in Seahouses and left it at the property. 2) No corkscrew. Again, not a disaster but small things like this do make a difference especially when paying almost £900 per week in the off-season. 3) No hand-wash in the kitchen, no surface spray and only a tiny little cheap washing up liquid thing that does about two washes. No wonder people leave things greasy/dirty – something fed back by previous visitors and which unfortunately we also found to be the case. 4) Leaking trap under kitchen sink with soggy box of stuff and adjacent mouse droppings. We cleaned all this up. 5) Main bedroom window does not seal properly along whole lower edge meaning howling wind noise and full-on cold breeze that can be felt from bed (not helped by curtains – see below). 6) Curtains in most/all areas are not properly hung due to damaged/decayed attachments meaning they don’t close properly. 7) Lack of any mirror downstairs and none in one of the upstairs bedrooms or the toilet. 8) No shower mat – it does get slippery and it’s a cheap and easy fix to a real hazard. 9) Not enough kindling/logs left to light fire on first night despite being advised there would be. 10) References in the information folder to various things (including additional kindling/logs) being stored in the “summerhouse (shed)” seem to be erroneous as there is no summerhouse/shed.

  • "Very nice property, extremely convenient for Bamburgh, beach and restaurants/pubs."

The house is very nicely appointed, ideal for a couple or 2 adults 2 children, I think the single bathroom limits more, unless you’re happy sharing facilities. It does need a little tlc, the main bedroom window doesn’t work so well needs adjustment , and some new curtain hooks in various locations would be good. Overall a nice stay.

  • "Issues reported to Seahouses office and HO during stay."

Lovely quiet comfortable property with large private back garden. Sadly issues mentioned let down our holiday experience, but would stay again. The Large toaster STILL not working (Previous guest reported) and also the large oven grill also not working. Electrician arrived and confirmed both not working 20/9/24. Attention to cleaning (oven trays still thick with fat), cobwebs behind lounge curtains and repair many hooks. Blue recycle bin FULL on arrival, HO arranged to be emptied on Friday 20/9/24. Would be very helpful if a luggage trolley or similar were available to carry luggage and provisions etc.. from our vehicles along the long path, through two gates into the rear sun lounge, especially when raining. Customers expect all amenities listed and provided for the cost of the stay to be working, and should be checked between bookings. Holiday stays are for relaxing, not worrying about having to report things not working.

  • "Lovely cottage, very well situated and excellent garden for dogs - very secure."

Fabulous view of the castle. The cottage is deceptively big downstairs and the kitchen is well equipped. A couple of minor points - the floors were not very clean on our arrival, particularly around the ding table and cobwebs/dust in corners of kitchen, lounge and dining-room. Also the window in main bedroom could not be properly closed. It should be a tilt/open window but would not close properly at bottom right corner. Would return to this cottage - comfortable & great location.

  • "I wanted to take a moment to thank you for providing such a wonderful holiday property."

Myself and my family had the best week away staying at your property, and it absolutely exceeded our expectations in every way. The location is stunning, and the property itself is just beautiful and so well-equipped—it truly felt like a home away from home. There were a couple of small issues and observations that I reported during our stay. I believe it's important to share feedback to ensure the owner is aware so they can address these matters as necessary. However, these minor points in no way detracted from our overall fantastic experience. Thank you again for such a memorable stay. We hope to return in the future!

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
