Surrounded by open countryside and at the base of the Cheviot Hills on Roddam Farm is this rustic end-terrace cottage, 1 Roddam Rigg Cottage.

Boasting access to a private lake, along with walking and cycling trails, and within easy reach of the Northumberland National Park, this is a brilliant dwelling for a family of three wanting to get away from it all.

As you pull up to the property, you can spot the many sheep dotted throughout the fields, before parking in a private off-road parking space.

Ascend the steps to the entrance of the stone-built cottage and be welcomed into a charming sitting room; this is a wonderful spot to respire with the family around the Smart TV and toasty multi-fuel stove.

After enjoying a movie with your group, continue through to the kitchen/diner to prepare dinner with its ample appliances, to be enjoyed at the close-by breakfast bar.

Make your way upstairs to bed and choose between two appealing bedrooms to enjoy a well-earned rest in; one being a king-size with abundant storage and stylish, yellow touches, the other being a single with fabulous views out to the fields and warm, orange accents.

The shower room is also on this floor, with a walk-in shower for you to wash away days of walking and climbing in.

The spacious garden is a superb space for relaxation, unwind on the selection of seating as your little one and furry friends stretch their legs on the lawn; the garden is also home to handy bike storage.

A fantastic holiday can be achieved without travelling far, despite being in a secluded area, you can walk along the private footpath to two lakes where you can savour a lakeside picnic or walk and cycle the day away.

Head north to the town of Wooler to find your amenities along with ample hiking trails; enjoy a drink at the popular Anchor Inn and Riverside Bar, before picking up your essentials from the convenience store and walking through Wooler Common to Humbleton Hill.

Get even more involved in the outdoors and nature, and venture into the centre of the Northumberland National Park where you can take the family to view the mystical Hareshaw Linn Waterfall, visit the famous Sycamore Gap tree or stargaze at one of the park's many dark skies sites.

The market town of Alnwick makes for a fabulous day out for history fans, with the Alnwick Castle, one of the UK's largest inhabited castles, the Fusiliers Museum of Northumberland and Bailiffgate Museum.

Make the most of your access to the coast and continue to Alnmouth, a picturesque village that showcases a long, golden beach and is a great place for golfing, tearooms and backs onto the Northumberland Coastal Walk.
