The property

Hathersage 0.1 mile.

Pine Cottage is a welcoming, pet-friendly cottage nestled near Hathersage, Derbyshire.

Set within Peak District National Park this abode boasts an enclosed garden with rural vistas, nearby local amenities and a roll top bath.

Arrival is simple, with two spaces to park and a chance to pause and take in the stone exterior before following the gently ramped approach up to the porch, where coats and walking boots can be left behind, and a cloakroom to freshen up in as you step inside.

From here, the cottage opens into a large sitting room where open-plan stairs rise above the living space, creating a sense of height and flow.

Settle onto the sofa with a drink in hand, flick through a book, while glazed doors draw the eye out towards the garden and across the neighbouring cricket pitch, offering a view that shifts with the light and the seasons.

Moving through the cottage, the galley-style kitchen brings a more contemporary feel, with wooden worktops, tiled flooring underfoot, and a dining area that invites long breakfasts over fresh coffee or relaxed suppers prepared at an easy pace.

Cooking becomes part of the holiday rhythm here, with space to chop, stir, and serve while conversation carries through the room.

Beyond the kitchen, the conservatory adds another layer to the living space, with seating arranged for quiet moments spent reading or simply looking out, framed by the characterful stone wall that anchors the room to its surroundings.

When the day winds down, head upstairs to find inviting bedrooms that encourage unhurried mornings, followed by time spent in the bathroom where sleek white tiles and tiled flooring set a clean, elegant backdrop to the freestanding bath, perfect for easing tired legs after days spent exploring, while the walk-in shower provides a refreshing start before heading out again.

Outside, the rear garden offers a private place to unwind, with the outlook stretching across the cricket pitch and on towards open countryside, ideal for alfresco meals, relaxed afternoons, or simply watching the landscape change as the day unfolds, while nearby amenities such as village pubs, shops, a railway station, and an outdoor swimming pool can all be reached on foot, making it easy to dip in and out of local life without planning far ahead.

The surrounding area offers a wealth of places to explore within easy reach.

Chatsworth House makes for an impressive day out, where the approach through rolling parkland sets the scene before stepping inside richly decorated rooms, wandering gardens that unfold with sculptures, water features, and long views, and lingering over local produce in the farm shop and café.

Castleton offers a striking contrast, with its dramatic setting beneath steep hills, opportunities to venture underground into famous caverns, and streets lined with stone buildings that lead naturally to tearooms and welcoming pubs after a walk on the surrounding trails.

Bakewell provides a gentler pace, inviting visitors to stroll beside the river, browse independent shops and markets, and enjoy the town’s distinctive character shaped by bridges, courtyards, and historic architecture.

Pine cottage situated in the quietest part of this vibrant village just 150yds from shops, pubs and all amenities and overlooking the peace and quiet of the village cricket ground.

Hathersage has great shops, numerous eateries, wine bar and not forgetting its infamous outdoor heated swimming pool. With several great walks nearby, the cottage itself is nestled at the start of one of the most popular walks around taking you up past Bronte Cottage and North Lees Hall which was visited many times back in the day by Emily Brontë and is considered to be inspiration for her famous novel Jane Eyre, with the walk continuing towards Stranage Edge and beyond.

Weather it’s great walks great food and drink or just a relaxing break Hathersage and Pine Cottage is perfect for enjoying Derbyshire at your pace.

HATHERSAGE

Castleton 5 miles; Curbar 5 miles.

The attractive village of Hathersage (‘Heathers Edge’) is situated within the Peak District National Park at the beginning of the Hope Valley and close to excellent walking at Edale. Many visitors come to Hathersage to visit the churchyard and the grave of “Little John” (of Robin Hood fame) - whether he ever really existed is for you to decide! Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel Jane Eyre is thought to have been inspired by her visit to Hathersage vicarage in 1845. For a village of its size there is a very good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, as well as a public, open air heated swimming pool and railway station. A great centre for exploring the Peak District!
