Ashbourne 7 miles; Leek 13 miles.

The attractive rural village of Alton lies on the western fringes of the Peak District in lovely moorland countryside, between the market towns of Leek and Ashbourne. The village offers a post office, a village shop, and pubs serving food. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking and cycling, with miles of woodland trails and moorland hikes to enjoy. Dovedale and the limestone Churnet Valley are on the doorstep, and the Manifold Trail is close by. There is easy access to many of the area's attractions, including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Lyme Park (NT) as seen in TV’s Pride & Prejudice, and the NT Ilam Estate. A great touring base for all the Peak District, Alton Towers, and its many rides and attractions are just a short drive away!
