  • "I wanted to bring to your attention that the hallway, kitchen area, utility, back entrance and downstairs toilet had a smell that was there when we arrived and remained for the time we were there."

    It smelt to us like a drainage issue or something similar. The smell was stronger at times but couldn’t pinpoint when it was worse. It wasn’t enough that it affected our stay but it was unpleasant at times and only could be smelt on the ground floor, upstairs was fine and so was the cinema room. I wanted to let you know as this may need to be investigated as may affect people’s stays in the future. The house was beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay, location was perfect and the house had everything needed and was really well decorated. So thank you! We’d definitely stay there again and would use Sykes Cottages again.

  • "We really enjoyed staying at the property."

    The hosts given us a warm welcome and really helpfull. The property is so spaceous and kept really warm even if its peak winter time. The kitchen is elegant looking with all equipments included, which was really helpful since we stayed there on Christmas public holiday time. We would definitely recommend someone in future for this property.

BUXTON

Tideswell 7 miles; Bakewell 12 miles; Matlock 21 miles.

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
