  • "Hi it was a great stay, really helped having the little extras such as a couple dish wash tabs and washing up liquid saving having to buy in, lovely having the log burner on at night it was so cozy , kids loved the cottage, we did some walks and the playground and pump track in the village was a nice surprise, the neighboring sheep were cute and handy to be able to close the gate to keep our kids in!"

Will be coming back when we can

  • "We loved our stay at Brookside."

A spotless, really comfortable and cosy place to stay in a lovely, exceptionally peaceful location with just the sheep and cows for neighbours. Miles of fabulous hill walking right from the doorstep. We want to return as soon as we can! Thoroughly recommend.

  • "Brookside is in a quiet, secluded location which really suited us."

There are many walking options available from the door. The property was very well furnished, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed and more! It was spotlessly clean and we can wholeheartedly recommend it.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Brookside and only wish we could have stayed longer."

It was perfect for us and our 1 year old. He loved seeing the cows each morning and the addition of the books and toys he found to play with. Travel cot and highchair were provided which was brilliant. Highly recommend to anyone and we hope to be back later in the year for longer this time. Only tiny feedback to note was I couldn’t find a hairdryer (a minor thing but would be handy!)

Bathroom would have benefitted from some shelves and hooks, but this is a very minor problem. Our second stay and probably not our last.

Bliss. So glad we found it and will definitely return in the future!

We had lovely days out exploring the little towns and villages and the beautiful area, and it was always so nice to come back to the utter peace and quiet of the cottage. Even the sheep and cows are so chilled out. We cannot fault the cottage and its location. Thank you for a lovely week. Micky & Joy Williams (10 to 17 May 2024)

  • "We were due to come to Brookside last Autumn to do some cycling."

However, plonker that I am, I fell off said bike and broke my arm. The owners were kind enough to change the booking to this week. We've been before and enjoyed ourselves so much we came again. The cottage is lovely and cosy with everything you'd need. There are so many places to visit nearby that a week is hardly enough. New to us this visit were the Winking Man and Lud's Church, both involving a climb but well worth it. The other thing that was different this visit were the cows. They were in their winter quarters and we really missed them ambling back to their field after milking. They kept an eye on us from their shed though. All in all a wonderful place for a break.

Very cosy cottage to come back to after our walks/runs and there are plenty of walks/runs to do without the need of a car. Kitchen was well equipped and beds were very comfy. I can not think of one negative about the place – perfect holiday cottage. Thank you :)

Love the sound of the babbling brook next to the property. The welcome book had great recommendations for places to visit and local takeaways. Would happily visit again as my husband was able to access all necessary areas of the property in his manual wheelchair.

However, it is a pleasure to review BROOKSIDE COTTAGE which epitomises everything a holiday cottage should be. I cannot fault its presentation nor its location. It is superb. Congratulations to Jon and Grace. We will not hesitate to return when the opportunity arises.

Plenty of space, inside and out. Well equipped cottage. Lovely views with a brook actually babbling alongside the building. Curtains could have been thicker and better fitted. Bathroom extractor was not working. These two details the only minor issues. Highly recommend this cottage. We will be back.

  • "A very comfortable week in this secluded and roomy cottage on a diary farm."

The setting is delightful with a small stream running beside the cottage and we were able to use the outside patio area for several meals. It is a short walk down the (steep) hill into Hayfield by footpaths or the road and we walked from the cottage on longer expeditions on several days. The local shops kept us going with essentials.

  • "We had an amazing time."

The cottage was lovely, comfy and cozy. We had sheep grazing outside at the stream running next to the cottage. We did an amazing walk around the Kinder Reservoir from our front door. I can’t recommend this highly enough. One note of caution is that the last cattle grid towards the cottage has a short rather steep incline, which means lower cars like my Tesla Model 3 might scrape their undercarriage slightly going over.

It was so clean and well maintained we thought we were the 1st people to use it! Really well stocked with everything you need including hand soap, cooking oil, salt, washing up liquid, dishwasher and laundry tablets...I wish all holiday lets did this! On top of all that it's in an amazing spot with a lovely patio and furniture, babbling brook and walks straight from the front door. I would struggle to improve this place, but if I had to suggest anything it would be a bench and boot store outside to prevent muddy boots inside.

The place was clean and tidy, beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well-equipped with utensils, pans etc. Loads of parking, could easily get four cars there, possibly a couple more. The location of the cottage is superb, half a mile walk down to Hayfield which has a handful of pubs/restaurants, a nice butchers and a village shop. Perfectly placed for hill walks in all directions, and of course some great views.

  • "Apart from the questions above I would like to add a positive note about the location."

It was easy to get to the property from the village road and, apart from the cows who liked to stop across the track for a chat, was an easy drive up from the road. The local attrations were also only a short drive away and the village itself was good for a quick shop or a pub meal. We were so lucky with our weather - we came home sore - feet, legs and bottoms (from a Monsal bike ride) we may be old but refuse to give in. We had a wonderful week thank you.

It’s tucked away in a quiet corner down a lane and not overlooked except by the sheep. Very spacious, clean and well equipped. We always try and seek out quiet locations and this certainly fitted the bill. We really needed the break. The location was perfect - so peaceful - quiet, enough for us to hear the little brook next to the cottage. The cottage was so comfortable and very well equipt - I think everything had been catered for. The baked goods, there on our arrival, were a lovely touch. We were taken so much by the cottage that we plan to be back in December...we will just bring our other car that has a bit more clearance over that second cattle grid toward the house.

  • "We were delighted with the cottage."

It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and lacked nothing. The grounds were massive and completely isolated - besides for the sheep grazing right outside the windows!! The highlight of the trip for the kids was certainly the cows being milked which we were kindly allowed to watch on the main farm. Will certainly be recommending this to others and hope to return one day!
