  • "The property was very disappointing ."

The property was unsafe and not cleaned ready for guests. My family and I had to live in it for the whole 7 day stay, with little assistance from Sykes. Everything from the fridge, to the dishwasher, to surfaces, kitchen cupboards were disgusting. The extractor for the oven hob was falling apart and not fit for purpose, the kitchen tap leaked pouring out water every time you used it. There were dangerous chemicals in multiple places. Every area was either mouldy, grimy, greasy or dirty. The fridge and the dishwasher were mouldy and filthy. The cutlery, plates, cups glasses etc needed washing first and then you couldn't put them back in the cupboards as they were grimy. There were lots of used, half empty condiments left in the property, which had also left grime in the cupboards. There were several extension cables around the property one with bare wires, another across the decking and down the garden leading to some kind of accomodation out the back, there was another internet wire which also travels down the side of the house to the accomodation out the back, causing another trip hazard. There was no safety barrier on the decking although 3ft from the ground so unsafe for everyone, especially children. The decking also had 2 kevels which were not clearly visible, as one level merged in to the other. During the night and day there was a high pitched sound coming from the plumbing. Which wakes you up. Everytime you wanted to use the shower you had to go downstairs to turn it on at the boiler as we were told not to leave it on....possibly due to the plumbing issues?? The owner had left personal belongings including explicit underwear, stockings and dirty socks in the property. The mattresses were comfortable but were also well used with large dark stains and shouldnt be in a holiday rental, although there wre mattress protectors on the beds. There was no welcome pack, no information for the area, the owner didn't know the WiFi password and took some resolving. As regard facilities it is a 5 bed, so has potential to sleep 9, with only 6 mugs, 4 dining chairs, 2 sofas and a 2 slice toaster, 1 ensuite, 1 shared family bathroom and 1 downstairs toilet. We contacted both Sykes and the owner. We did get a sorry message from the owner but blamed sykes for not listing correctly and it should be a higher price point and she was disappointed with the advertisement. The property wasn't secure with a side gate unattached laid in the front garden, the owner comes and goes as she wishes as on Thursday we came back to a hot tub which had been installed whilst we were out. With a hose pipe trailed across the garden and another cable going to the accomdation out the back, with no, corrspondence from the owner. The owner did attempt to come and clean the property but with little effect, cleaning the surfaces and not dealing with the main issues. Sykes were very apologetic as we sent relevant information over to make the owner aware and make improvements.

GREENFIELD

Uppermill 1 mile; Oldham 7 miles; Huddersfield 15.5 miles.

Greenfield is one of seven villages nestling amongst the 18,000 acres of moorland hills, open fields and scenic valleys that comprise the Saddleworth area. These Pennine villages have a wool spinning and agricultural heritage dating back to the Industrial Revolution, but today Saddleworth has evolved into an attractive South Pennine and Peak District National Park area with breathtaking views and glorious stone-built buildings. Greenfield is a thriving little village with a good range of amenities, and well placed to explore the South Pennine region. Greenfield has Saddleworth’s largest park in Churchill Playing Fields, which includes a skateboard park and tennis courts. It also has the canal marina and Saddleworth’s train station, which is an extremely popular stopping off point on the ‘Real Ale Rail Trail’ and offers easy access into Manchester for a city visit. Live entertainment at local pubs includes folk, rock, jazz and classical guitar concerts, and the ‘Off the Rails’ comedy club.
Saddleworth is home to a wide range of festivals and community events, the most famous of which is the Whit Friday Band contest, which attracts the UK’s and Europe’s top brass bands and was the backdrop to the film ‘Brassed Off’. Another well loved film ‘Yanks’ was set in Saddleworth and is also commemorated by a major weekend festival.
Almost every weekend features a visitor attraction, be it a canal festival, vintage car rally, the Saddleworth Rushcart procession, real ale festival, morris dancing competition or the well regarded Farmer’s Market. Nearby attractions include Dovestones Reservoir for boating and walks, and the Castleshaw Valley with an interpretation trail for a Roman fort, the highest of a series built on the Roman military road from Chester to York.
