  • "Great cottage with everything we needed, comfortable for 3 or at a push 4 people."

Spacious off street parking and the welcome pack (fresh milk and cake!) was a nice touch. Excellent location for heading off into the Peak District, most well known routes are only a short drive away, or you can walk directly from Hope. Decent pub next door as well, what more could you ask for!

Good location for walks, recommend the footpath between Hope and Castleton, better than the road, albeit a bit longer than main road but good for dogs.

We lost the doors key Tracey and Husband didn’t have a problem with the drive from home to drop of a replacement key offered to pay but said no problem enjoy the rest of the holiday Will certainly book again and recommend to friends

Spotlessly clean and so very thoughtful in every way. Many little details that were really appreciated from flashlights to complimentary items. So comfortable and stylish too. We really felt made welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.! Location is fabulous, shop, café and pub within a minute walk. The perfect place in every way.

  • "Everything in the cottage was as stated on the website."

It was very comfortable, warm and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped and we appreciated the milk and cookies left for us. We heard no noise from the pub next door but did enjoy it for a meal and drinks. Excellent location for visiting all the sites and attractions in the north of the Peak District. There was nothing to fault with the cottage and the owners were quick to respond to a query I made before visiting. Would thoroughly recommend.

  • "We had a lovely break (postponed from 2020) with our now one year old - the cottage suited us with a toddler just as well as it would have with a newborn though."

Plenty to do in the outdoors nearby - we enjoyed climbing Lose Hill, cycling the Monsal way and a trip to Peak Wildlife Park. Would recommend - but would suggest bringing your own potato peeler!

  • "A very hot week in a very hot barn."

Parking is limited on the streets so having a parking space was essential. The garden is enclosed and safe for young families although the photo is old and suggests otherwise. Recycling information would be handy, along with the option of putting the bins out. This is something we do at home and feel that we should comply elsewhere. Old hall barn is such a lovely place to stay and visit the hope valley. Walks are from the doorstep and pubs are in plentiful supply - so no cooking required!

  • "This cottage is charming and cosy, in a fantastic location."

Hope is a bustling village with a good selection of cafes! The pub literally next door is very handy but not too noisy. It has spaced out tables outside for social distancing and staff all wearing visors. The hot water went during our stay but the owners got it fixed very quickly so it was no problem. We had a lovely stay but would recommend a bigger outdoor bin, as a family of 4 self catering a lot we had a lot of nappies and rubbish every day! Also bring some toilet rolls with you as 2 not enough for a week. The garden is safe and secure, ideal for kids and the view of the peaks is lovely and peaceful. We enjoyed hearing the cows on the field next door, luckily we were already up at 5am with the baby as they’re pretty loud!! If you have a baby, bring your own cot and high chair. There’s loads to do for families close by, in addition to all the hiking, including Hathersage outdoor pool (prebook), Thorpe farm (Hope valley ice cream where you can see cows being milked by a machine) and in Matlock the Heights of Abraham and Gullivers kingdom are super fun. Don’t forget your masks!

  • "We had a lovely 3 night stay at old hall barn."

The cottage had everything we needed, was very clean and in the perfect location with 2 pubs close by, and a spar to buy any loving we might have needed. Loved how close it was to Castleton, we got a bus in so we could enjoy a few drinks which only took a couple of minutes. Would recommend to anyone staying here, as we will most likely be booking again.

Located next to a pub was actually very helpful, hardly new it was there and never any problem with noise. Difficult to obtain logs for fire. Also toilet should have a proper lock . But overall excellent value for money.

  • "Nice place."

Good pub next door, plus views of Hope Church opposite. Lovely walks. Overall very satisfied. Suggestions to owner: Upstairs bedroom needs ventilation at the apex as it has no window of its own. Also fewer ornaments/niknaks would reduce clutter and free up surfaces. Many thanks. Nick

  • "The barn was very much as advertised, and, importantly for a very cold weekend, the central heating worked most effectively and was straightforward to control."

The fridge freezer was also a good size. The only negative was the level of clutter. Every surface and most cupboards were full - it was really difficult to find space for our things. A self catering cottage should leave plenty of room in the kitchen for provisions, and plenty of work surface free for preparation. Similarly, the sitting room should have space for our clutter - we had to move lots of ornaments (some floor standing and heavy), old magazines, and even unnecessary seats, in order to find space for us to spread out. That said, the location was perfect, the seats and beds were comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay
