  When first converted – 16 years ago? – this was perhaps a quirky, romantic retreat but it certainly isn’t now, being very much in need of some TLC. The provision of cooking equipment is sparse; the pots and pans were non-stick when new but are not now. There was no ‘welcome pack’ of information, such as is usually provided when renting a property. We were given a nice present of eggs and alcohol but oil, sugar, salt & pepper would have been far more useful. There was no washing-up brush or sponge. There is one small bench seat just about big enough for two people if you don’t mind bumping elbows when you eat. For a shorter person the table is too far from the seating. The woodburning stove needs a new door seal and certainly wouldn’t pass a HETAS safety check – although there are carbon monoxide and smoke alarms and neither went off when we used the stove. The bedroom and toilet doors have warped and no longer close properly. There is a bolt for the toilet door but no hole to slide it into. There is no security lock for when you leave the property. The strip light in the kitchen/lounge is facing horizontally so illumination at night is poor. We bought a camping lantern so that we could read. The curtains in the bedroom may be ‘quirky’ - some being hung upside down - but none match. The pole for the widest one, at the end of the bed overlooking the balcony, was well provided with rings but only half a dozen curtain hooks, so tended to hang in loops. If you stay there for more than a couple of days you will find you need to be regularly fetching water for the sink reservoir from a tap outside the shower. The shower itself works well and is spacious, although it is 100 yards away. There is a useful but rather grubby wheel barrow to transport your belongings and water from the parking area. We managed because we supplied a lot of our own equipment and are used to coping with circumstances that are not entirely satisfactory.

We’re sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations, although we appreciate your kind comments about the welcome you received from us. Rumenco is a small and quirky property specifically designed for two people, so space is naturally limited, as is the amount of cooking equipment and crockery we are able to provide. The size, seating arrangements and overall layout of the property are shown in the photographs on the listing so guests can get a good idea of the accommodation before booking. We do provide a wooden folding chair for additional seating at the table, kept behind the toilet and shown on the photographs. As a 2-tick property, we don’t provide a full welcome pack as standard, we do provide a folder located above the water reservoir in the kitchen which covers all health and safety aspects as well as other information for your stay. We do like to leave guests a small welcome gift, which on this occasion included eggs and alcohol. We also check on arrival if guests require anything else and are more than happy to provide any missing basics, we were assured by this guest that they had everything they needed in their campervan for their stay, including a coolbox. We do provide a full reservoir of water beneath the sink and also an additional filled 5 litre container for top ups. We take our guests safety very seriously and adhere to a strict regime of checking smoke and monoxide alarms prior to any stay. We also check the draw of the wood stove and clean the chimney at regular intervals, and following your comments we checked again and there is no leakage from the door when the fire is in use. The stove was installed by a HETAS approved installer, and the gas stove by an accredited gas installer, we also have the mandatory 12 month check, which provides a dated certificate for this purpose. When the engineer visits he also checks the overall safety of Rumenco as a part of the certification. We do appreciate you highlighting the areas you feel require some attention, and we will take your comments regarding the equipment, doors, lighting, curtains and wood-burning stove on board.   Thank you for your feedback. We’re pleased that you enjoyed the lovely setting. Rumenco Horse Lorry is a simple 2-tick property, and the facilities provided reflect this. The photographs give a clear representation of the accommodation, (showing a small kitchenette/dining, toilet and bedroom) and the listing advises that the shower room is external. We appreciate that this style of accommodation may not suit everyone, but we aim to make the facilities and layout clear before guests book. The main reason guests return is due to its remoteness and the short woodland walk to Rumenco and its private space which help guests unwind, after enjoying a day in beautiful Pembrokeshire.
