  • "Although not our originally planned accommodation, Bluebell Cottage served our needs pretty well overall."

Cute, clean and central enough to the sites we had hoped to take in; as well as allowing our two small dogs- thank you for this. We had wanted a quiet stay. The accommodation we'd originally booked (which cancelled on us late stage) was detached and more remote; but despite Bluebell being terraced, you'd hardly know you had any neighbours... but that road!! Granted, it, isn't too busy generally but is a whisker away from the house and I was amazed at the number of lorries which roared passed, particularly early morning, making the windows rattle. Thankfully, I'm a very early riser and my partner could sleep through a tornado-just as well in this case. I did attempt the suggested public field walk ONCE but with no pavements, narrow roads and big lorries, I didn't make that mistake twice, instead electing to drive the dogs to the park in Castle Cary itself which was lovely. Once we'd established a routine, everything worked fine. Would I stay again? Yes, I think I would. The property is cute, clean, relatively close to many sites and is, comparatively, a very good price.... but I wouldn't visit again with pets. Dog friendly and dog suitable are entirely different ball games.

  • "Don’t feel that this property was dog friendly."

Very little information was advertised about facilities for dogs. The lack of outdoor space for large breed dogs. Rude neighbour. The cottage is delightful, but please make it clearer on advertising that it’s not suitable for energetic dogs who need to be outside. Ideal for an old lap dog. The outside area is very unkempt.

  • "Cosy cottage, comfortable beds and good shower."

Road outside very busy during the day. Narrow parking area outside front of cottage…managed to squeeze Corsa just off the road. Couldn’t find an outside bin and cottage info pack instructs visitors to take recycling home, which is odd. Great base to explore the area, such as Sherborne, Wells, Glastonbury and Stourhead.

About the location

CASTLE CARY

Bruton 6 miles; Glastonbury 14 miles; Wells 14 miles.

Castle Cary is a small, attractive country town 12 miles north east of Yeovil and 24 miles south of Bath. It lies on the edge of rolling countryside between the Somerset Levels to the West and the ridgeline of Penselwood to the east, halfway between the Mendip Hills and the Blackmore Vale. The main Paddington to Penzance railway line runs about a mile to the north. The old part of Castle Cary, which is still the town centre and contains buildings like the Market House, the Round House and the old George Inn, runs along the foot of steep, grassy Lodge Hill, below where the castle used to stand. The town is the main centre for a large area of South Somerset, with a wide range of shops and services, and free parking.
