  • "The property was far better than expected Everything that one could need was supplied In a perfect location for access to port Eynon and Rhossili As we were there to scatter my daughters ashes off the coast, we had other family members come and visit."

. The hawthorns was a perfect reception... The neighbour introduced himself to my son in law before we got there and arranged for a lawn mowing We had a lovely weekend considering the circumstances we were there.. I couldn't recommend the place more highly... Eleven out of ten...

Hi Tom, thank you so much for the lovely feedback and we are so happy to have provided you with a place of comfort and convenience for what can only be such a difficult step. Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. We scattered my father’s ashes not so far away. It is such a beautiful location for it. Kirstie & Neil Property Owner

  • "It's a shame I need to write this as this property has a lot of potential, but was really let down by the lack of cleanliness, especially in the kitchen."

Initial impressions were that it looked clean, however once we started to use the kitchen we noticed products hasn't been refilled (no dishwasher tabs, no washing up liquid, coffee was gone off, amongst others), and some of the cookware was filthy (baking trays covered in grease and an oven that smelt dirty when cooking and even had a message on it to say it needed cleaning). Bedding and towels were clean but the ensuite had dirt at the bottom of the bin, shower curtain needed replacing and the floor was far from clean. Bedside light not working in one bedroom and windows were locked with no obvious key. The owner tried to contact the cleaners when we informed, them but they didn't respond and we ended up having to buy bits for the kitchen. Owner offered a small refund as a gesture which we are waiting to come through. The space was good, nice size garden, good location for what we wanted, but unfortunately once you start to notice the lack of cleanliness it puts a downer on everything. Would recommend the owners find a new cleaner as they'll lose repeat guests with the current ones.

We are so sorry about your experience. As per our messages we have informed the cleaners to rectify this and photos would be greatly received to further enhance the feedback. The property has also been checked since and we are hoping this was a temporary lapse. From the photos they sent following their clean there was no apparent sign on the oven so it would be greatly appreciated if you did happen to have a photo of this to share. We really appreciate the feedback. Thank you so much. Property Owner

  • "Hawthorns is a lovely house in a great location."

We stay in and around mumbles regularly an enjoyed being nearer to Rhosilli and Port Eynon. The shop in the village is handy. The house has plenty of space and is mostly comfortable. It was great to have a garden and an extra sitting room as a large party. Lots of games were provided and the kitchen was well stocked with pans, dishes etc. We were disappointed with the lack of essentials on arrival. No dishcloth, washing up liquid or dishwasher tablets. The rubbish situation is also unclear (nowhere to store full black bags and no large food waste bin for example.) we contacted the number provided to ask advice but had no response. Finally the double (non en-suite) bed and bathroom door both squeak very loudly which meant we were disturbed at night. These wouldn’t put us off returning as it is generally a great house, but if these things were sorted it would be better still.

Thank you so much for letting us know and your overall positive feedback. We are so sorry for things not being topped up. We have let our cleaners know and hopefully this will be rectified going forward. We will look at getting something for outside to store the bin bags when full and to get the door hinges oiled so they don’t squeak. Property Owner

Perfect large secure garden for the dogs. Must go to place is Port Eynon just a couple of miles away. We found a lovely woodland walk coming out the back of Oxwich Bay. Had a great stay, well recommended.

Scurlage is a small village, named after the family who built a fortified manor house, although none of the remains of ‘Scurlage Castle’ have survived. This little village is between the popular beachside villages of Rhossili and Port Eynon and is close to the fantastic beaches of the Gower Peninsula including Oxwich Bay. A perfect central location to be a short distance from fantastic coastline and the iconic Worms Head. The little village has various footpaths crisscrossing the area, shop, pharmacy, doctors surgery and take-away, but still retains its sleepy village personality.
