  • "He place is a quaint little cottage very clean and tidy A few negatives are that the shower does not get hot."

It is broken in some way and we didn’t notice until the Saturday morning and this was not likely to be fixed by the Monday at check out. I would have expected the cleaner to have noticed if the bath had been rinsed out prior to our visit. The second problem was there were two double rooms so I was expecting one of my older children to sleep on the sofa but there was no additional bedding like in all others. There is a 3 seater sofa and one single chair but three adults wouldn’t sit in a row that close to each other I think an additional single would be better. There was no inventory done of the kitchen cutlery. We only had 3 bowls between 4. There is also no cooking /chef knives we had to use steak knives to cut bread. There were neighbours staying for two of our nights and they had a car each this prevented us from Walking in the property via the front as there were no gaps and bags etc. needed to be lifted above our heads to get past so we settled on using the back door. The parking situation is dreadful. I have a Land Rover which I appreciate is a larger car but I wouldn’t have wanted to park any car next to the bushes and along the wall to get scratched. The 2nd option is pay £5 per day in front of the house or wait until Saturday night to use the one at the groomers but both side doors couldn’t be opened together so we only had use of one side of the car.

Thank you for your feedback I wish you would of contacted myself regarding hot water as I would of been there asap rather than you putting a bad review on my little cottage as I’m running a business and I do my best to make sure that all my future guests have an open message to contact 24/7. The previous guest told me the water was ok ? Regarding the bath not rinsed out I’m baffled as I did a spot check before you arrived also the cutlery? But thank you I will take your advice and have done inventory. Sadly I have had a lot of things been stolen which has happened a few times so thank you For mentioning inventory I will take your advice. Regarding the neighbours they have there own driveway which is nothing to do with Lake side cottage Both have own entrances . These cottage’s are over 200 years old as you explained in your review ‘quaint little cottage’ they were built for cart horses not cars years ago . Hill Road is the oldest part of Newmillerdam so unfortunately the little hill road is not built for large cars . However I provided a car permit which is for Hill road and any space around the monorail which is free anytime There are security cameras all around And you was able to park outside my dog grooming salon also . I’m a little confused regarding your sleeping arrangements ? I have 2 bedrooms with double beds which is advertised and photos on Sykes website. Regarding the 3 seater sofa plus a large chair my understanding fits 4 guests I’m sorry that you preferred not to be close to each other I will look at this and see how I can make more space for 4 individuals. I was advised by Sykes cottage’s to have 8 x dishes bowls plates cups cutlery etc There are lots of pans frying pan oven plates All cooking utensils A tea set and cake stand all coffees tea bags milk etc Thank you for your review Karen squires hirst Property Owner

  • "We loved the cottage from the start and couldn't have asked for a more comfortable place to stay."

The nearby walks around Newmillerdam were beautiful, especially the "high" path. We also loved Walton Colliery. It was very convenient to have the Dam Inn right next door for emergency meals although we were mostly self catering. Altogether a very peaceful, happy holiday was had. Thank you

Thank you for your kind words and I’m so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Lakeside Cottage And most of all what lovely guest you have been ! I have applied for a separate car park place directly adjacent to the dog groomers where it has the yellow cross on as it does belong to the cottage so if you decide to you will have your own private parking space and return at some point You will have this space and not on the hill Kind regards Karen x Property Owner

The cottage is in a great location, lovely walk around the lake, I agree with the 3star rating from Sykes, enjoyed our stay in the area Bathroom very small, new shower needed, nice comfy beds, warm, Parking would be difficult at busy times but we managed to park in the car park, the owners daughter has the grooming business and she said she lets guests park in front, overall a nice break

Thank you for your review. I am pleased that you enjoyed the location the walks around the lake and the comfortable beds and your stay overall. However I am really disappointed by some of your comments and feel that it is important to clarify them for my future guests. In particular I strongly disagree with the 25 % Cleanliness rating which does not reflect the perfect condition in which I prepared for your arrival. The cottage has totally been refurbished march 2026 every thing is brand new to bespoke standard. The shower is new too and in perfect working order ??Regarding parking you were able to park in front of my daughters dog groomers as a kind gesture when the groomers were closed Which is not on the listing.I welcome genuine constructive feedback as I always welcome ways to improve. But I do think reviews should provide an accurate and fair reflection on the property. I am pleased that despite your concerns you described your stay as ‘ nice break’. Property Owner
