  • "A lovely location for peace, rest and walking opportunities."

The photos on the website need updating, and it should be made clear that there is NOT a DVD player. The local CB Inn is excellent for food: we had a great roast there. (booking advisable).

  • "Great holiday cottage in quiet location."

Just what we like, plenty of walks from the door. Comfortable accommodation and lovely to have a fire and all the sticks, coal etc provided for those cold wet evenings in June! Storage heaters also worked well. Only drawback was we had to clean oven before we could use it and no kitchen towel provided to mop up the grease. New kitchen and redecoration (since previous photos on web site ) looks great.

  • "Pretty little cottage, nicely furnished (comfy new sofas), good bed-linen and towels, and well equipped (soap, washing up liquid, kitchen and loo roll etc, plus local info)."

Definitely need darker main bedroom curtains so you don’t wake at 4.30am, and a decent reading light downstairs. Loved the heated towel rail. Heard a few crashes, bangs and voices through the wall as so quiet there, but recompensed by birdsong, owls hooting, pheasants calling and church bell counting the hours. Shame there’s no outside space, but loads of open fields and walking from front door, including lovely river walk. Had trouble with TV but the pleasant engineer resolved that (mostly!).

  • "A lovely cottage to stay in - very clean, easy to access and great location."

Beds were comfortable, kitchen well equipped (had a cafetiere), wifi worked well, cosy living room with good stove. Slightly missed the random selection of books and games that some places have. Warmly recommend staying here!

  • "A very enjoyable stay!"

Very comfortable and warm (which in February was a real bonus). The Red Lion pub is less than a minute to walk, but be aware that no dogs are allowed, given the size of the pub this is a good idea. The CB Inn is great for food (Sunday lunch was great!). All in all, I can’t recommend this cottage enough and if you like walking you’re in for a real treat! We WILL be back!

  • "Hi. A lovely cottage in a beautiful village."

Very generous hosts, there was a wonderful welcome package on arrival, full of Yorkshire treats and the fire had been lit, and the Christmas decoration were lovely. It is rare that fuel/kindling is supplied for a whole week - and so that too was generous and most welcome. The cottage is a great size and it is possible to walk straight from the door up on to the moors and have some lovely walks. Really wonderful cottage and setting. Thank you for your generosity both with the fuel and treats!

  • "This was such a well located, beautifully presented and cosy cottage, and as Chief Cook and Bottle Washer, the kitchen particularly was really well equipped."

There is even a slow cooker which we used a couple of times when we were out walking for the day. Roger the caretaker was very thoughtful and gave us a ring to check everything was okay when we landed. We loved it here and have already booked to come back over New Year!

  • "Lovely cottage, wonderful location."

We have had a fantastic week at Arklehurst. The cottage was really cosy, clean and well appointed. Village and locals were very friendly. Dog walking was beautiful and straight from the door. Sadly we were unable to book an evening meal at the CB, no fault of theirs - very busy due to Covid restrictions and everyone wanting to go there. Red Lion was just lovely, not a problem with the dogs outside. Would thoroughly recommend, and hope to return one day. Do take food supplies as nearest big supermarket is a little way away.

The cottage is warm and comfortable and equipped with everything you could need. The walks from the door are fantastic, my dogs were in seventh heaven as was I. I am really missing the peace and quiet, no noise but the bleating of sheep and the sound of rushing water. The only thing I missed was having some outside space to sit in the sun at the end of the day but that is clear from the details so is not a criticism. It's a pity the Red Lion doesn't allow dogs in but the CB Inn just up the road does and they were very friendly and welcoming . The food was good too! All in all I am very happy with my stay and will very likely book Arklehurst again. Thank you for sharing this very special corner of Yorkshire with me.

I parked on the roadside nowhere near any houses agood 5 minute walk from the cottage. When I went the next morning I found a rude note on my windscreen telling me not to park there as it was private property although it was a public highway with no restriction signs at all.

The cottage itself is cosy with traditional furnishing and what you would expect to get in a Dales home. Perfect for dog owners as there are walks from the door and pubs in neighbouring Reeth are dog friendly. Would recommend and hope to return.

  • "I think it should be fare to note that although cottage was dog friendly the pub certainly was not, not the fault of the cottage but it could impact on the holiday experience as the village is remote."

Thankfully the next pub along isn't too far away, although a reasonable walk. A few problems were resolved by the owners very quickly. I found it necessary to use my own frying pan, knives and tin opener, as the ones provided were not up to the job. Overall we had a good stay

  • "Would not stay at this cottage again."

Very fussy caretaker who didn't like us turning the heating down during our stay (we stayed in high summer and the cottage was boiling with the heating on full blast) and who actually entered the cottage with a workman one day while we were out and turned the heating back up after we had turned it down! We also received a lecture on having mistakenly used the wrong dustbin for our rubbish. The partition wall between this cottage and the one next door was very thin, to the extent that it was possible to hear every word being said next door when in the kitchen. Parking was occasionally an issue. Village pub was unfriendly, did not serve food, and did not allow dogs. Owing to all this, we found it difficult to relax in the cottage. On the positive side, the location is super with numerous beautiful walks from the door.
