  • "What a wonderful little cottage with everything you need for your stay."

The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were really comfy and the bathroom was modern and spacious. There is a lovely seating area outside to enjoy a morning cuppa or a glass of wine on an evening. A very generous welcome pack is provided and milk in the fridge which was very thoughtful. We had some nice chats with Rob, the owner. He was on hand if we needed anything but left us to enjoy our holiday. We would certainly recommend.

Love it. It's in a nice quiet position where you can sit out with cuppa and enjoy the view. Plus only a short drive away to many tourist attractions like High Force Waterfall, Bowes Museum. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there this year and dry sunny weather too. See you next year.

We had such a warm welcome from the owner Rob, and there was a very generous welcome pack, and some lovely personal touches like flowers in a jug when we arrived. The location of the cottage in stunning, the views are glorious and the sunny patio is such a lovely place to sit. Internally the cottage is beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. The kitchen area is really well equipped, comfy beds and a great shower. We had a lovely week and would definitely recommend this lovely cottage!

Location is perfect for exploring Upper Tees,Pennines, Swaledale and Wensleydale. Even parts of Cumbria if you choose. Great walking. Barnard Castle is a pretty little town. Everyone very friendly. Super shops. Perfect break!

  • "This is such a lovely cottage!"

Although it’s a very old cottage, it was warm and cosy and has been beautifully refurbished and equipped with everything you could possibly need, including a log-burning fire. The welcome pack and fresh flowers were a pleasant surprise. It was well situated only a couple of miles from the town of Barnard Castle, where there is a fair-sized supermarket and many other smaller shops. Curlew Cottage has a lovely atmosphere and, despite the weather not really being suitable for walking, I very much enjoyed my stay here. The owners are delightful, generous people and always ready to help out with anything you need. Looking forward to returning one day, hopefully in the not too distant future.

  • "As advertised Curlew Cottage is located in a beautiful setting."

It is private, away from road and traffic noise and very restful. But is on the edge of Barnard Castle a lovely little town with lots of amenities. Spotlessly clean and tastefully fitted out with good beds and bedding. Top of the range oven/grill. Full central heating which we used late in September. We briefly met one of the proprietors from a distance as per COVID and he apologised for that and said they normally welcome their guests personally. Bonus: a complementary box of goodies with Prosecco and fresh pink roses. We will be back!

  • "Main issue was telecomms, not owners fault and not Sykes doing!"

No TV or radio all week due to fire at mast in August and by end of week no internet or landline due to a BT problem on top! Very bad luck as its a lovely cottage very comfortable and we enjoyed the peace and quiet too. One think we didnt spot in yr online info about the cottage which was a big plus was that the main heating is central heating and was great

The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions.
