  • "Lovely cottage and nice touches with the dog items i."

    E. some poo bags, a towel and treats plus wine, milk and biscuits for the humans! Lots of information regarding the local area and walks etc provided in the cottage. Dog friendly pub within 30 seconds of the cottage which my husband liked as it showed the football too (as it chucked it down with rain on Saturday afternoon). It was cosy and easy to use the heating if needed or the electric heater in the living room. Only very minor niggles - few cobwebs spotted and would have liked some hand soap at the kitchen sink plus maybe some shower gel in the bathroom. Overall a really nice stay, would recommend for location to Raby and Barnard Castles.

Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed your stay We do have very energetic spiders (that’s old buildings for you!) and I am in a constant battle with them - I am sorry that some of them had clearly got the upper hand during your stay ☹️ I note your suggestions about hand soap in the kitchen and shower gel I hope we see you again Jo Property Owner

Staindrop was the perfect base for visiting the Teesdale valley and we enjoyed some great walks. On wet days there were plenty of places to visit locally.

Super convenient location, gorgeous cottage and great for our two furbabies! We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return in the future. As we stayed over the bank holiday weekend we enjoyed a few local events such as a crafts market at the local castle ( dog friendly ) and a local beer festival. All locals were super friendly everywhere we visited including the pub over the road. We were greeted with a bottle of wine, snacks and some treats for our dogs! Jo was really friendly and super helpful with all recommendations we required. Have already recommended this cottage to friends and family for there stays, was perfect for a nice hiking holiday :)

The cottage was as described and well equipped. Pub and shop 150 yards away. Pub not always open so check. The cottage was well presented with everything you could need for a long or short stay. The owner did speak to my wife on the morning of departure , to ask if everything was okay. Which was nice of her. If you have a pet or just want a great base for exploring the beautiful country side, this cottage is a fantastic base.

An ideal position to visit castles, gardens and countryside etc.First impressions of a place are very important to us and we were delighted with the gesture of a bottle of wine ,coffee etc and milk, biscuits and a box of dog accessories! The owner had made a special effort to display literature and stamp her mark on the place with pictures etc to make you feel at home. The kitchen was well equipped and well stocked for some cooking etc. There was a small but safe backyard for our dog.The bathroom was spotless and the bedroom was lovely and we slept well in a comfortable and clean bed. The only slight concerns were that the property can be a little dark and required lights on and the kitchen taps are a little too far back from the sink and one had to make sure they were fully turned off Thank you Jo for your initial welcome .You have put a lot of effort into this place.Barrie and Jacqui

STAINDROP

Barnard Castle 5 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has always been closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners. The Castle (open to the public) is one of the most grand in England. Staindrop has many interesting shops, pubs and cafes set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is 5 miles away, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, plus of course its wide range of shops and tea rooms. Walkers will enjoy the many walks around Teesdale.
