Everything very clean and quality furnishings. Ideal location to explore Wensleydale and swaledale. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The local pub serves local ales and was dog friendly.

  • "Beautiful cosy cottage very clean and cared for with everything we needed to enjoy our holiday and more."

The cottage was in a great position to enjoy the surrounding countryside , it was warm whilst we were staying so didn’t need to use the log burner but plenty of logs were provided. The only small niggle would be having to park our vehicle up the road but it didn’t spoil our holiday and wouldn’t hesitate to book again .

Special thanks to Aileen and Colin for their concern at the effects of the storm and lack of electricity on the first day. The situation was manageable, but v good of Aileen to follow up with texts. The cottage has everything you need and with the log burner was cosy and warm despite the chilly weather. The welcome gifts were also well received.

  • "Car parking is a bit of an issue."

The two parking locations suggested by the owners were not available, therefore we decided to park at the village playing fields which was about a quarter of a mile from the cottage. This wasn't a problem for us, but for less active customers it could be a problem.

Thank you for your kind comments however the extra parking on the playing fields is 300 meters away according to Google earth, not the distance described. In several years of renting the cottage this if the first occasion we are aware of that the alternative parking had to be used.I'm already aware that people have read this comment and that it has a negative effect on future bookings.Kind regards Aileen Izzard Property Owner

The cottage was superb. It had all the creature comforts as well as being personally decorated. I didn't have to worry about a thing. I just enjoyed everything about the area -the fresh air, wonderful scenery, lovely wild flowers and friendly people. Margaret

  • "The cottage was so cosy and welcoming and had everything we needed."

We even had a bag of goodies on arrival to help us get our holiday off to a great start. It is situated in a gorgeous area of the Yorkshire Dales with so many things to see and do right on the doorstep. There were also plenty of walks from the cottage itself and the owners left us plenty of walking guides to help us out. We had an amazing week and would highly recommend this accommodation. We hope to return some time in the future!

  • "A goldfish bowl!"

We read all the recent reviews before booking this cottage and were surprised how positive most of them were. There were several mentions of a welcome pack on arrival which we couldn't find anywhere. This was a shame because it would have been a nice touch after us struggling with the trying parking arrangements - we had to park 100m away and then transfer our luggage by foot. The location of the cottage was good for walking and there is a fair pub close by. The description states 'an enclosed rear garden,' which is not true. The rear garden is reached either by the back (kitchen) door of the cottage or by using a gated passage which runs up the side of the cottage. This wouldn't be a problem except mid-week a family of two adults and three children arrived at the adjoining cottage. Although they had their own front door, they chose on several occasions to use the passage to the rear of our cottage, walking around the back and climbing over a 30" fence to reach their rear door. The first time we saw them, I had just finished having a shower and was standing in our illuminated kitchen sporting a small towel! And there was no curtains at the kitchen windows. Shocks all around. We asked them not to use the passage but they continued anyway. It made going into the kitchen a very stressful experience. Beware!

  • "Bit of a damp chilly week in Yorkshire, could have done with perhaps a fan heater to warm up the lounge in the mornings and evenings."

Did not really want to light the log burner!!

I'm sorry you were not entirely satisfied with your stay and that the weather was not good. Instructions for the night storage heaters is outlined in the information folder in the cottage. We have one in every room as well as the log burner in the living room. Generally in August it is not necessary to have them switched. However if you had of turned them on this would have warmed up the cottage considerably during your stay. Property Owner

  • "In the description of the cottage it shows a little stream that we assumed was running near the cottage ."

This was not the case . and as this was one of the I booked the cottage I feel at bit misled .the cottage was lovely but the lane was quite busy at times other than that it was lovely

Thank you for your feedback. This is an image that Sykes supplied of a nearby river. If there was a stream within close proximity of the property, it would be noted in the property description. I am sorry if you felt that this was misleading. Kind regards Property Owner

  • "Parking is a bit of an issue."

We were unfortunate to have heavy snow fall and, though upstairs was warm, downstairs was not, and it took several hours for the small woodburner to heat the sitting room. Front door would benefit from some draft excluding tape, and it would be useful if door between kitchen (which was very cold) and sitting room had a handle so could be firmly closed. Admittedly few other guests will experience the weather we had! Myrtle Cottage is very well equipped and immaculately clean.
