  • "Wonderful property, clean, well stocked."

Quiet location, beautiful views. Only negatives were bbq not cleaned and some of the strip lights on the patio are failing. We had a wonderful stay. Big shout out for the mature gentleman next door who bought us round croissants, wine and beer.

  • "We had a wonderful stay, property was spacious and very comfortable."

It was equipped to a high standard, with lots of nice touches. We were a party of 4 adults plus my toddler grandson and found there to be plenty of space for all of us. The house is a short walk into Hope Cove which has a few nice pubs and restaurants as well as the beach. We would definitely stay here again, we love the area so we'll be back!

  • "We loved our stay at Sou West."

The house was perfect for us, lots of space for everyone and the house position was ideal for the beach and exploring the area. Highly recommended and thank you.

  • "Very lovely property, close to a picturesque beach and within walking distance of a pub (downhill easier than uphill)."

Facilities are very good. The only thing, which has been mentioned before, are the windows that have double glazing panels that have blown. The kitchen window and 2 panels in the sun room. Obviously this spoils the enjoyment of the view, which is stunning. Eventhough, the property is well located and I would highly recommend it.

  • "Nice property and excellent location."

Ideal for a family with children; plenty of space, garden and the beach is nearby. You can also visit Dartmouth and surrounding area for boat trips and steam train ride. Totnes small market town with riverside walk and further afield Buckfastleigh Abby. Overall a nice holiday.

  • "Sent the owner."

First of all, great property, in a great location and a premium rental product. I've been coming to Hope Cove for 50+ years and really loved staying here. I'm going to split the feedback into a snag list and stuff, which I think it would be appropriate to have in such a high-quality rental property. Before I go on to that, the quality of the appliances and kitchen facilities and just the general decor, was very much appreciated. Additional Items Needed. Oven gloves - these are essential. No bins in rooms. No washing up equipment. Insufficient tumbler glasses for 8 people. Snag List. Upstairs wardrobe handle came of in our hand as not attached with screws! Bathroom window upstairs very stiff to open. Front downstairs bedroom radiator thermostat noisy. Cracked cafetiere (luckily we bought our own!) Fridge water container not prefilled so took 2 days to make ice. (Not a fault, but would have been nice to have the ice available earlier in our stay.) Kids hand and finger marks over doors by dining table. (being really picky here but thought would feed this back.) Finally the blown windows and patio doors. I really appreciate that you have invested a lot already, but to have the view interrupted by the blown double glassed units spoils the view out of what is otherwise a premium property and was not expected. Finally, looking at the instructions to hand the property back, there are no large bin liners to put the bed linen in, which is what we have been instructed to do. Thank you for renting us your home. We have treated it as our own and look forward to coming back again soon. Kindest regards, Andy Cox and Family.

  • "Lovely property in an area we know well from many years of holidays, but needs better maintenance."

Fly infestation (many dead on the floor), Clothes were left in a draw, paintbrushes out in the utility. The heating thermostat deosn't work. No wifi in one of the bedrooms (teenage angst ensues!) Dripping inbetween the downstairs bedroom... I sent some more complete feedback to Coast & Country. Could be a great house, but just felt a little unloved in the detail areas.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are thrilled you loved the property. We can only apologise there were some flies upon your arrival, the property had been checked prior to your holiday and were not found, this has also not occurred before or after your visit. On investigation the dripping noise was outside the property due to the adverse weather. We were surprised to read your comments on the thermostat and Wi-Fi as we have not had these comments in the past, we will of course inspect these and rectify should there be an issue. We do hope you had a lovely holiday and enjoyed all the area has to offer. Property Owner

  • "Really well equipped, lovely comfortable holiday home which had everything we needed for a family stay at Christmas."

Great location with country views from the garden and easy walk to the beach. Only niggle was the lack of instructions for waste disposal and recycling bins. No baby/toddler equipment provided but actually if you take cot, stairgate and high chair with you as we did, the house is very child friendly.

  • "Sou West was perfect for our family get together and birthday celebration."

Very comfortable, everything was provided and the whole house is so well equipped. We found the property really easily and the arrival worked as planned with key safe. Found the Wi-Fi a little tricky to get established. Had to reboot several times. The kitchen equipment and all around the house was excellent. Beds comfy, bathrooms excellent. There was no information on how to dispose of waste. We segregated everything and left in porch, but didn't know what day to put out on road for collection. We know the area quite well from previous visits but this part of Devon is absolutely stunning. Visitors to Sou West will not be disappointed.

  • "We very much enjoyed our time at Sou West."

The space was great and the kitchen and all the littles extra’s were a lovely added bonus. The only slight negative was we were unable to find a key for the two downstairs bedroom windows which made it very stuffy at times. We by chance found a key just under one of the sofas so was able to open them for the last two days. Great outside space with beautiful views of the countryside and even a sea view. If there was a hot tub as well it would be the cherry on top

  • "We stayed at Sou West in August with seven adults, a toddler and a baby."

The property is spacious and in a lovely quiet setting and we had room to park four cars which was great . The view from the back is so relaxing ….. ,watching the sheep graze in the field, breathing in the fresh clear air ,and catching a glimpse of the sea. The kitchen / dining area is spacious and well equipped and there is a welcome dishwasher and utility room! The sitting room is comfortable and has a huge TV . We slept upstairs in the super king room …..definitely the best bedroom though the other three all have king size beds and are comfortable. There were a few things that could be improved. I kept looking above the sink in the bathroom but there was no mirror there! The disposal of rubbish was an issue since the instructions were not very clear. There were only a couple of black bin liners and no recycling bags available …fortunately we had brought extra black bags with us. A workman next door was very helpful in explaining where to put the black bags but said they are only emptied every two weeks on a Friday. There were some in there when we arrived and when we left the bin was almost full and not due to be emptied for another week. Also it is important to note that there are no facilities for toddlers and babies. We took our own high chairs, small mattress and travel cot. The property is quite highly priced and a bit more than we would usually pay but it was peak season and we all had a very enjoyable family time staying there.

  • "Wonderful place!"

The beds are sooo comfy, and the cottage had everything you could want, a well equipped kitchen and outside area. Wifi was also very good, I would consider having a longer break and working from here a couple of days next time. Just a short walk down the hill to peacful Hope Cove, with a couple of nice eateries and a safe place to swim. For us there was nothing we would change, we loved it.

  • "A lovely property, very comfortable and spacious and a lovely outside space for the dog to enjoy and for us to enjoy the views."

In a great location. We had an amazing week and will be back again soon. A really well equipped property - the only additional things we would have liked to make it perfect would be been bath/shower mats for the bathrooms, a clothes airer and an outside brush to brush the patio.

About the location

HOPE COVE

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
