"The owners live across the yard and were very friendly and greeted us on arrival."
We were able to park right by the kitchen door which made unloading luggage and shopping very easy.
The layout of The Cottage is a little bit quirky with the two bedrooms at either end. The original bedroom with the main house above has a double bed this leads onto the lounge which also has the main house bedroom and bathroom above it and it’s noisy in these two rooms, they must have bare floorboards upstairs as you can hear toys being played with running, jumping and the hoover sounds like a power sander. Water plunging into a toilet is also loud.
The lounge has 2 recliner 3 seater settees and the TV is not a smart TV. There’s a log burner that we might have used if a starter pack of wood/kindling had been provided (as advertised) and I’m sure the owners would have supplied some if we’d asked.
The kitchen was equipped and usable, the crockery was dated but I do love vintage Pyrex although the dishwasher was removing the designs which was sad. Incredible amount of mugs however it was unfortunate that there was a persistent damp/drain smell in base and wall cupboards around the sink. I removed crockery that I needed to use to the other side of the kitchen so I didn’t need to open these cupboards.
The kitchen was very spacious and the kitchen table is a good size but lighting was not good. Also there’s nowhere to hang coats.
As you pass the very useful washing machine and tumble dryer it leads you to a really nice “snug” area (with the glass covered well) and this area is very well lit and has a chair … a little side table would make this a lovely reading nook. The family bathroom is situated off this area and is dated but usable the shower is spacious but water pressure was low.
The master bedrooms en-suite is next to the family bathroom and has a waterfall shower that’s lovely unfortunately the corner cubicle leaves you little room to move.
The master bedroom has a wonderfully comfy double bed and 2 sprung single beds, slightly strange setup but I can understand the owners are maximising occupancy.
We stayed for 3 weeks in January so we spent all our time in The Cottage so we utilised the really good shopping center on the outskirts of Bideford which has a brilliant selection of shops.
This property is rural and perfectly situated for hiking, photography, fishing and as a holiday base. There are a collection of dogs that do wander around the yard area at times. I would imagine it’s a beautiful setting during the Spring/Summer/Early Autumn season.
Thank you both for being so welcoming and sharing your local knowledge during our stay.

"Lovely owners and a super comfy home from home with everything you need for a holiday."
Set on a farm in a beautiful location with gorgeous views, but not far from Bideford and all that we love in north Devon. We had a lovely weeks holiday at the cottage and loved the welcome by Charlie dog every day. Only thing that would have been handy would be some coat hooks either in the kitchen for coats, and in the bathrooms for towels. Loved the well in the floor too, awesome feature. Thank you :)

"We had a lovely holiday staying here."
It was an amazing, quiet location, being in the middle of nowhere, but also just 5 minutes drive from shops. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful and their two dogs were lovely. Our dog-phobic child overcame her fear and enjoyed playing with them daily! It was perfect accomodation for 2 adults and 2 children in a room, and grandparents in the other room. The property has been updated in some areas since the photos were taken and these changes are really nice. We found it clean, with everything we needed. Would highly recommend this cottage! A great holiday!

Robert and his wife (owners) were a lovely couple. Really friendly dogs. We enjoyed the Cream Tea provided at the cottage. There was a cream tea waiting for us on arrival. Robert and Ellen were very helpful. The fishing lake kept my husband occupied when were at the cottage. There is plenty to do in the area and although the weather wasn't brilliant it didn't stop us going out and about. The area is very scenic with quaint villages.

"Regretfully our experience was not a good one, despite our expectations being high, looking at the photos of the property."
The outside photo on your website is out of date, where the white painted exterior is now very weathered. Internally the kitchen is very 'tired', and the cleanliness of the fittings/crockery leaves a lot to be desired, in particularly in this period of Covid-19 pandemic. Whilst the internal furnishing is comfortable, the bed linen has not been replaced since the original photos, and one bed had some particularly bad staining on the mattress. Finally, the heating system is unsatisfactory in that there is no control for visitors - the on/off times seemed to be controlled in the adjoining house, even though we asked if they could be changed, we didn't notice any change. Also, the radiator in the bedroom we used never worked, we were told it was the end of the line so it takes a long time to warm up, but it never heated up all week.
Thank you for your feedback, I can assure you that we take all comments seriously. We are disappointed that you did not have the experience you had hoped for during your stay. The outside of the property has weathered and it will be painted as soon as the weather allows. Cleanliness is something we pride ourselves in and so were surprised by your comments. Had you informed the owners, who live next door, any issues would have been dealt with as necessary. The mattress is being replaced. If there were any issues with heating, once again the owners are next door and would have been happy to adjust temperatures and times as you felt comfortable and even provide extra heating if necessary. We do hope you will holiday with us again in the future.
