  • "Property was not quite what the pictures suggested."

A bit dated inside with few noticeable marks on carpets and plasterwork, damp behind kitchen door, etc. Plus there was nothing in the Lyme Bay holidays listings suggesting the property had shared access and kind of a shared garden space including shared access to the street below via smugglers run. Plus I think the rear of the fossil shop was underneath the sitting room, as during the daytime we could hear tools being used and talking, but was very quiet and peaceful at night once the fossil shop closed for the day. Just the listing doesn't mention any of the above. Don't get us wrong, the stay was great, we had a great break and the property had a charm about it. Just location if we'd of known would not be our usual choice, as we prefer more privacy and own garden, access, etc. Property was just a little on the tired side, but had everything we needed for a comfortable break. There was also a locked glazed door at bottom of inner stairway, which we could not work out where it led. When we called Lyme Bay Holidays to ask what the said door was, they could not say. We reckon it's an old entrance but not sure.

We are saddened to read some of this whilst fully respecting your varied views and opinions. We continually upkeep what is a Grade II listed building in parts dating from the 1700s and maintain our property to the required standards. We upgraded all of our heating and water systems this year after a flood. With professional help the lower wall behind the kitchen door has necessarily had to be left for periods to dry out and be retreated. We apologise for these current marks. The house keeping standards as set and maintained by Sykes Holidays will have noted if there were any marks in the carpet and would have addressed them hopefully. Space in lower Lyme Regis is at a premium and we are lucky to be so central yet so tucked away with the huge bonus of central parking. Smugglers Passage Way is not our property or route to Cleve House although we have always been very grateful to be able to use it for access to our house. Our access, as stated on Sykes Holidays, is via private wooden steps from the car park. We don't have any shared garden, again as stated we have a private wooden decking area. I will ensure that this is clear in the Sykes brochure and online information and reflected in the photos. As you said you enjoyed your stay and the property has a charm about it, we are pleased and thank you. You asked about a locked cupboard under one of the staircases. This is locked as an owners space for storage and actually contains tools, paint and ladders for on going maintenance and upkeep. These are all visible through the frosted, glazed door. This has always been a cupboard and does not lead to anywhere. It did have a small note on it saying "Owner's cupboard" which must have come off. I'm sorry that you rated Cleve House so much lower than our other reviews and we have carefully considered each of your points. With regards. Property Owner

  • "Our second time in this cottage and we couldn’t hope for anything better."

It’s well equipped, extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location is perfect, tucked away but minutes from town. Perfect.

Thank you for your kind and positive feedback. We are so glad that you returned. We love where we are too - as you said tucked away yet minutes from the beach, the Cobb, restaurants and shops. You are most welcome and thank you again for your lovely feedback. Property Owner

  • "Wonderful holiday accommodation."

Clean, cosy. Comfortable and spacious. Great location and parking a bonus. Welcome bag a lovely gift on arrival. Would definitely return and highly recommend. Would just perhaps advise to expand the instructions for the new TV as took a while to get to grips with. Likewise the heating system. We got there in the end but with a bit of time spent working it out.

Thank you for your very lovely comments and we are so glad that you will return. We will address your comments about the new tv and heating system and make the usage instructions clearer. Thank you Property Owner

  • "The home is lovely, charming with a very good location!"

Well equipped, but some extra teatowels and an extra dishcloth would be really nice.

Thank you for your kind words. We love our location too. I will pass your comments on about tea towels and dishcloth to Sykes Holudays our letting agents. Property Owner

  • "We had the best stay last week."

House was lovely and very well presented and equipped. My parents had the twin room and did find the mattresses very hard, although that could be down to personal taste. The seagulls really do enjoy target practice on the house..Must be a full time job for the poor owners with cleaning and painting but we did find it quite amusing..little trouble makers

You are quite right. Our location being so close to the beach and sea means that we repaint the outside of our house at least 5 times each year!! It’s like painting the Forth Bridge! I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "This house was great for us as a family with two primary-aged children."

It is a bit tired and dated in places, but we were happy with the facilities (especially kitchen) and would definitely stay here again one day! We love how close it is to the seafront and Lyme Regis Museum - almost across the road really - plus so helpful to have car parking. The kids loved how quirky it was to have two staircases inside. Beach toys in the storage case outside were such a great touch, thank you. We also loved that this time my parents could rent Cleve Cottage which shares a courtyard, making this a lovely family holiday.

Thank you for your feedback and so glad that your children liked our house, it’s quirky features, the beach toys and the proximity to the town and beach. Parts of our house are 300 plus years old and may be forgiven for appearing dated. Property Owner

  • "My partner and I found the property to be clean, comfortable and very well-kitted out."

The stairs might be a little tricky for elderly guests but we managed them okay. The house is also very conveniently situated for the beach and sea-front shops and it is very likely that we will want to holiday there again.

Thank you for your positive feedback. We do hope you get to return to Lyme Regis. Property Owner

  • "Luckily we did not want to do much self catering but if would have we couldn't get the hob to work."

As this was the last day of our stay when we tried to use it we didn't bother contacting anyone. Looking through the visitors book comments others have had a similar problem so am surprised no clearer instructions or an easy to use hob not installed. As usual we have a wonderful few days in Lyme.

It saddens us that this feedback relates to just the last day. Our kitchen has excellent facilities for self catering with a new smeg hob , oven, grill, slow cooker, microwave, griddle and more. The clear manual for the hob is in both guest folders and the instructions are simply written in the guest comment book too. The standard on / off icon is touch control and I have shown this in text and pictures. I hope this lag day didn’t spoil your weeks stay. Property Owner

Good quality beds and linen. Well stocked kitchen. The heating and hot water is excellent and clear to operate. Tight route to parking area but how good to get parking so close to the bay. Late sun on the decking is a great spot to enjoy. Two minutes to the seafront on foot.
