  • "Lovely accommodation, clearly new as still a few snags (leak through glass at end of dining area, bits of finishing trim missing in master bedroom) set up the hill with really nice views across Bembridge airfield where you can watch the small planes landing and taking off."

Great facilities with "normal" crockery and kitchenware unlike the barren kitchens most holiday park caravans come with. Loved the wine chiller and the island - made cooking and serving up so much easier. Nice range of outdoor furniture if the sun shines - we didn't really get to appreciate this and the outdoor decking thanks to the British summer weather! We had one night/morning with no hot water after it ran cold when trying to wash up, we smelt gas in the en-suite, and the boiler showed 0 bars and a fault code of F1. Security answer the out of hours so just suggested to switch the gas off, which we'd already done, and maintenance came out to fix the next day. Was bad timing as we had a full day out and ferry crossings booked the next day so were unable to shower. The people next door popped round one morning to say the waste pipe from the kitchen sink wasn't connected, so my partner fixed that. The bed in the main bedroom was so uncomfortable and every time you moved you could hear and feel the springs beneath you. My partner unfortunately suffers from a bad back and could hardly move for the final few days. The weather was awful, so it would have been better to have the DVD player in the main living area and not the master bedroom. Was lovely to have a bath in the kids bathroom instead of just a shower cubicle. I wouldn't bother with the guest passes for entertainment again. We paid £79 and only swam twice (it's a fun pool not a swimming pool and the water is very murky, weather meant we didn't get to try the outdoor pool) and tried the evening entertainment once for the wrestling as it had an early start time, as other than the tiny tots entertainment, most of it started too late for the children. Plus, the road between Crosswinds and the main site is actually really dangerous to cross with children as you can't see around the bend to the right at all. We had actually booked a different unit which was sold so we were transferred to this one, and having driven round the site to find the other I am really glad we were moved as the other location was nowhere near as good. We will possibly look to book this site again, but not this accommodation as would prefer a hot tub next time. We can recommend the Propeller Inn for food, and also the Old Village Inn in Bembridge.

About the location

BEMBRIDGE

Ryde 7 miles; Newport 11 miles; Cowes 16 miles; Yarmouth 20 miles.

Bembridge sits on the most eastern point of the Isle of Wight, and it is claimed to be the biggest village in England. Bembridge used to be an island in its own right, and until the Victorian era, was a collection of wooden huts and farmhouses, hence Bembridge remains somewhat detached from the rest of the island even today, which adds to its charm. Bembridge is considered to be one of the most upmarket areas on the island and offers a surprisingly busy intertidal sheltered harbour, which is always full of pleasure crafts and fishing boats providing a constant flow of traffic to and from The Solent. From the harbour you will find quiet beaches consisting of sand and pebbles, perfect for swimming, beachcombing and crabbing and in high winds you will see plenty of kite surfing activity. As you walk along Bembridge beach, you will discover the lifeboat station, cafes and the famous Crab & Lobster Inn, as well as the magnificent Culver Cliffs as your backdrop. The village centre offers a good range of small shops, with its award-winning butcher's and 'The Best Dressed Crab in Town' which is situated in Bembridge harbour, you can also sample local produce from the greengrocer's, visit the art gallery and much more; in fact everything you should need while holidaying here.
