“Parking a bit of an issue to load and unload car as cottage entrance is on a busy road.”

However this would not put us off staying again. The cottage was cute and comfortable and great value for money. We had a lovely time.

The property

This beautiful, quaint terraced cottage sits in a quiet corner of Beckley village near Rye.

Oozing with charm and character, this lovely cottage is ideal for those wishing to explore the Sussex and Kent countryside, as well as enjoying the sandy beaches of Camber only a few miles away.

The homely sitting room in this delightful cottage has beamed ceilings, an original stone floor and an inviting woodburner set in a feature brick fireplace, perfect for cosy nights in, making this an ideal choice for a romantic getaway.

After a long day out exploring why not bring back a takeaway, lay the table, open a bottle of wine or two and let the warmth of the fire do the rest!

Of course if preparing delicious dinners is all part of the fun while on your vacation, then the country-style kitchen will have you leaping for joy with the large range and assortment of cookware, there are even two fridges letting you create gastronomic delights.

Steep stairs lead up to the two bedrooms, a smaller double on the first floor with the bathroom next door and the larger master bedroom up a few more stairs.

Both bedrooms have been furnished with a nautical theme in mind, reflecting on how close this cottage is to the coast, while still being in one of the prettiest parts of rural Sussex.

Just outside the door of your lovely holiday home are dozens of footpaths to explore, taking you through fields and woodland, which makes cycling around this landscape also very popular.

Only a short drive and you can be climbing onto a steam train at Tenterden station with its 10 miles of track, where the train will gently transport you to Bodiam and you can alight and explore the moated 14th century Bodiam castle, now a National Trust property.

Castles are prevalent in this part of the country, so you can visit a different castle every day of the week, if the fancy takes you!

Walks and wildlife, castles and steam trains, beaches and leafy lanes, a holiday at this quaint, quirky cottage offers something for everyone at any time of year.

About the location

Rye 6.5 miles; Camber Sands 10 miles; Hastings 11.5 miles.

The village of Beckley, dating back to the 1700s, sits in the Sussex countryside, and has enjoyed a varied past, including heavy involvement with ironworks and forestry. Beckley remains a quintessential English village with local shops, churches and a village hall staging events throughout the year, with race nights, craft fairs and even an amateur theatre group all taking their turn. Popular for its beautiful woodland and their numerous walks, the River Rother also runs close by and is great for a summer stroll or a picnic on the riverbank. The surrounding area is alive with popular places to visit; the medieval town of Rye boasts historic houses, cobbled streets with tea rooms and antiques shops, battlements and boats, and perched at the top of the hill looking down on all below, Rye Castle, built in 1249. A short drive from Rye and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d arrived on foreign shores; Camber Sands, with its wonderful sand dunes, has been the location for many films sets, due to its beautiful golden beach and shallow sea waters. Tenterden has a steam railway complete with restored station, waiting rooms and cafe, where you can board a train and journey back in time. But, at the end of a busy day Beckley Woods will call you back with its leaves rustling on the trees allowing you to relax and unwind with just the sound of birdsong on the breeze.
