  • "We enjoyed a wonderful few days at Y Lleiaf!"

Everything about the cottage was just right plus the surrounding countryside and coastline were stunningly beautiful! Even the weather was bright and breezy after the day we arrived! We travelled by train to get there, so the following days we enjoyed walking along to the RSPB South Stack centre and to Trearddur Bay. The last day we explored Porth Dafarch Bay at high tide and low tide. A very therapeutic time!

It’s a real home from home. A lot of thought has obviously gone into providing everything you need to make your stay comfortable. It’s beautifully decorated and furnished throughout. The beds are comfy. The views are really lovely and the log burner makes it all super cosy. The location is excellent for coastal walks and only 100yards from a beautiful little bay. There’s lots of places to eat and drink within a short drive and there’s a retail park just down the road. We had a lovely stay here and have already recommended it to lots of our friends and hope to come back ourselves.

We have stayed a few times now and will definitely go back again. It has everything you could need for a comfortable stay and is always really clean. Gorgeous views, lovely walks and a fabulous log burner to come back to, you really couldn't ask for more. Communication from the owner is also really good. I do think the double bed needs replacing as it gave us both back ache but it wouldn't stop us returning again.

We’ve had the best break exploring the coastal path and gorgeous beaches. Cottage is warm and cosy with everything in the kitchen we needed for feeding our family, great shower, lovely log burner, good tv, fabulous views. The only downside, and reason it isn’t getting 5stars, was the double bed. It was so uncomfortable that I had to move to the couch after a couple of hours each night. It didn’t ruin our break though as I slept fine on the couch. Single beds where our children slept, were good. Neighbour very friendly and knowledgable about local area. Loved the rabbits visiting each morning. Having a brew with a view each morning was bliss. We’d love to return.

Such a superb location opposite the beach. Very quiet and peaceful. Very well equipped cottage and very cosy and clean. It is our second stay after 2 years. Noticed the kitchen had been refreshed. Be lovely if we could sit on the grassed area if garden chairs were provided as that is where the sun is in the evenings. But not sure if this is possible. Completely wound down during this holiday. Thank you

Two things holding me back from giving it top marks (which I imagine the owners aren't aware of the first?) A very slight smell of wee in the main downstairs bedroom at certain times of the day, I think I may have traced it to the bottom left dresser draw? Second, lots of blue bottles when the sun comes out, probably due to the positioning of the septic tank, one of the pesky bugers seemed to take a nibble on my leg. Other than that perfect location for a chilled break, very clean and contemporary accommodation with a nice homily feel.

Just a couple of downsides; there was no washing machine, it was quite rainy when we went and it would’ve been great to be able to wash our clothes. The water is on an immersion heater so if one of you fancies a bath it most likely has one shower left in it. If you’re a lover of wine, bring your own glasses as they’re very little. Maybe have a step in the bathroom for when stepping out of the bath, as its quite a big step down. The communal gardens are lovely to sit in. Guests need to take their own outdoor chairs as none are provided. We had a great week exploring the surrounding areas by foot and we even had good conditions for walking up Snowdon. There isn’t a washing machine, which we found extremely surprising for a cottage marketed for up to 5 people. There was no internet, despite this being advertised. No bathroom lights either. And the noisiest sofa to sit on in the world.

Thank you for your feedback. We would have been very grateful to have had the chance to sort out these issues at the time had you let us know, since you will see from our other feedback that we take great pride in our fab cottage! 1. Apologies, this is very unusual (see other reviews) but absolutely not acceptable. Our housekeeper would have been keen to rectify any problems as she takes great pride in her work and receives consistently high reviews. Can I suggest you contact Owners or house keepers in future with any issues, the emergency contact details are listed on the Sykes's email.  2. Washing machine: the cottage is not listed as having a washing machine so this information was available to you prior to your booking.  3. Apologies the wifi wasn't working during your stay. We know now it had been affected by the recent dramatic storms. Once we were aware of the problem, we contacted Sky who are fixing a broadband issue with a line external to the cottage.  4. Bathroom light: the house keeper would happily have sorted the lightbulb had she known.  5.Apologies you found the sofa noisy. • "The cottage is ideally located a short walk up from the beach, and within a short drive of Holyhead's amenities."

It is a very peaceful spot with fabulous views, and there are many places to visit within a 30 minute drive. We would recommend a walk around South Stack, the Maritime Museum in Holyhead, Beaumaris, the hidden garden Plas Cadnant near Menai Bridge, and a little distance beyond is Caernarfon and of course Snowdon. Y Lleiaf is beautifully furnished and we had much cottage envy. The room upstairs is set up for youngsters, and whilst there is a decent sized chest of drawers, there is nowhere to hang clothes, due to the restriction of the eaves. And anyone taller than 5' will need to mind the beam at the top of the stairs! The kitchen had everything we needed. It was great that the basics were available - tea towels, salt & pepper, dishwasher tablets, the sort of thing you could do without having to bring along. Plenty of pots, pans, crockery & utensils. The only thing we didn't have was a lid for the casserole dish, but we worked around it. The sandy beach is a hub of activity for canoes, kayaks and coasteering groups. That's not to say the beach is too busy to enjoy - it is a beautiful spot, a real sun trap, and there is a mobile catering van offering hot drinks and snacks most days run by very friendly people. There is a sign at the top of the steps saying "No dogs" but this is blatantly ignored, which could be a good or bad thing, depending on your own opinion. We would definitely stay again if we were out that way another time.

The cottage itself was super cute and it actually felt like we were staying in a friend’s place rather than a holiday let. You can tell the cottage is well loved and used by its owners. I loved the happy feel to it, with family photos on the wall and the beach style decor. There were lots of extras for us to use too, such as beach chairs, windbreak, kids scooters etc. A real beach home from home. The location was stunning and literally a minutes walk from Porth Dafarch beach, which we nicknamed ‘our cove’. We were lucky with the weather so my children had a great time snorkelling and kayaking there. Trearddur beach is only a couple of miles up the road, and is lovely. We had a nice meal in ‘The Black seal’ restaurant right on the beach. Rhosneigr beach, again very close by, and has a Newquay type feel to the place. Just beautiful. I would highly recommend a trip on the rib ride boat on the Menai Straits. Only again a short drive from the cottage. Perfect stay, thank you

Both lovely beaches but especially Trearddur Bay which was nicely busy but not overcrowded. A long stretch of clean yellow sand, perfect for sand-castles, paddling and sand-in-your-sandwiches picnics! The perfect type of simple old- fashioned holiday experiences that memories are made from! This cottage is by far the best holiday accomodation we have stayed in- we take the grand-children away at least twice a year so have had lots of experience from centre parcs to cottages to lodges. • "Didn't go for the weather at this time of year but the location did not let us down."

Plenty of lovely walks then back to a cosy cottage with the log burner going just what you need for a few days to get away from the real world! Would stay again and have already recommended to friends and family!

The property

Trearddur Bay 1.7 miles.

In a superb coastal location, 200 yards from the award-winning Porth Dafarch Blue Flag beach, on the south western coast of picturesque Anglesey, is this delightful end-terrace cottage, offering the perfect base for a family looking for adventure activities on the doorstep.

The cottage is very well equipped and decorated with coastal charm and style throughout, and is set in large communal lawns with undisturbed country views along the coast.

As soon as you enter you will see the attention to detail that the owners have added, with a fitted kitchen, which has a dishwasher, slow cooker and coffee maker, along with a character Welsh dresser.

The kitchen opens into a welcoming and stylish sitting room with extending dining table, furnished with a comfy three-seater sofa and snuggle chair located in front of the atmospheric free-standing woodburning stove, where you will want to curl up with a good book and your favourite drink and relax into the evening with the family around you.

The master bedroom is on the ground floor opposite the family bathroom, whilst the first floor has been cleverly converted to offer a family room with three single beds, which is somewhere the children will want to make their own, with their own TV away from the adults.

Outside this lovely cottage is a shared gravelled parking area with seven other cottages, and there are communal lawns to the front, whilst to the rear there’s an open communal barn with covered storage facilities for bikes if required.

A National Trust beach is less than two minutes’ walk and can be seen from the cottage; it has been voted by The Times as one of the best in the UK and offers a sheltered cove and sandy shores, with intriguing rock pools and craggy headlands.

There is a launching slipway for dinghies and canoes and the beach is popular with scuba divers exploring nearby wrecks, including the famous Missouri Steamer, which sunk in 1886.

With the Anglesey Coastal Path passing right by the bay, you can walk along the coast into popular Trearddur Bay for a spot of lunch at one of the many excellent restaurants before meandering back to this delightful coastal cottage.
