“Lovely accommodation, we stayed for Christmas and the house was decorated with a tree and a nice touch of mince pies and Prosecco left for us.”

Everything there that we needed and a lovely spot near the river and viaduct. The only downside was the signal for mobile phones was very poor and the WiFi blocked for any social media access so we couldn’t contact anyone until we left the complex. ...

Everything there that we needed and a lovely spot near the river and viaduct. The only downside was the signal for mobile phones was very poor and the WiFi blocked for any social media access so we couldn’t contact anyone until we left the complex. The walk into Whitby is 25 minutes to the centre even for a fast walker, there is a steep bank to walk up to get out of complex. Probably a nicer walk in summer as cinder tack was very muddy and to take the main road meant walking on a busy narrow, unlit road without footpaths for about 5-7 minutes. This is a lovely quiet spot for a visit to Whitby, just need to be aware of how far it is to the centre of town.

The property

An attractive, mid-mews cottage, in a small complex of similar properties, set by the banks of the River Esk, one mile from the popular fishing town of Whitby.

This bright and cheerful modern Whitby cottage has been tastefully furnished and decorated to a high standard providing a very comfortable holiday home, with patio doors in the sitting room and an archway leading to a well-equipped kitchen/diner.

Boasting a delightful double bedroom with access to a balcony overlooking the river with the benefit of a large sitting area, this bedroom can be adapted via sliding doors to provide two double bedrooms with a sprung mattress sofa bed.

The outside balcony affords fine river views - a lovely place to sit and watch the wildlife on the river and spot the steam trains passing by, there are communal lawned grounds outside leading down to the river, where seals, swans and ducks are regular visitors!

The property also has use of a boat ramp.

Although conveniently located away from the hustle and bustle, Whitby centre is just a short walk from the cottage, great for exploring the quaint cobbled streets, stroll on the beaches, visit the famous abbey and sample the many bars and restaurants.

For those of an adventurous disposition there is the cinder track along the route of the former Whitby - Scarborough Railway to Robin Hoods Bay a flat 6 mile walk with wonderful coastal views and cosy pub stops.

The surrounding area has a wealth of attractions, including the stunning scenery of the North York Moors, tea rooms in pretty coastal villages, and trips on the steam train to Pickering stopping in Heartbeat country.

A great Whitby cottage for all the family.
