  • "We had a lovely stay at the lovely Buttercup Cottage."

It was clean, comfortable, very well equipped and the garden was beautiful. We especially enjoyed the views from the bottom of the garden, a perfect spot for a coffee. The owners were helpful and responsive. It was great that the cottage was dog friendly. Castleton is a great base with good pubs and some beautiful walks. We would highly recommend and hope to return to Buttercup Cottage.

  • "The property could benefit from having a squeegee for the shower and the provision of additional tea towels would mean the dishwasher wouldn’t be required so often."

We were somewhat disappointed not to have the welcome pack waiting for us, having read about it in the reviews, and also in the feedback book. The photos give a distorted view of the cottages actual size and it appears a lot sunnier than it is especially the front entrance room, but none for all of that we found it delightful and Castleton is a very pretty village with plenty of pubs to choose from. However we were surprised to read that it sleeps 6, which would be tight.

Thankyou for your comments and feedback. Your comment regarding the additional T towels will certainly be taken into consideration, as this will indeed help with keeping the Electricity Bill's manageable. We are very sorry that you did not receive a Welcome pack, but we rely on Sykes contracted cleaners to provide this service and we will be highlighting this failure to them. Many of our guests appreciate our facility to accommodate 6 people but of course it's the choice of the customer. It is so reassuring that you found Castleton so delightful, and we wish you many more happy travels. Regards, Sharman Jenkins. Property Owner

Loved the views from the back garden. We stayed in October so too chilly to take advantage of the outside dining area but enjoyed the summerhouse with its fairy lights and the views. We didn’t need to light the log burners but can imagine how even more magical and cosy the cottage would feel with them lit. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped, everything we needed and more. Loved the owners excellent art work which added a more personalised touch. Would definitely recommend a stay to those wanting to explore the area.

  • "One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in."

The standard of finish is really high - more like a home than a holiday warm. The décor perfectly balances traditional and modern with original features. I cannot fault the place. Always very warm, comfortable, fab facilities, truly dog-friendly, superb views of the Dales and Shetland ponies out back. The location was perfect as it was a 5-10minute walk away from every shop, bakery or pub you could need, but as it's on the outskirts of the village it is quiet, peaceful and looks directly onto the hills. The shortbread, ready milk in the fridge, dishwasher tablets and bottle of (delicious) wine were a welcome touch after a long journey and on a cold day. I will be booking this cottage again for sure. The only fault I could think up Is whether 4 TVs are really necessary? We barely used one! Thank you so much for such a memorable stay. If you ever consider selling, please get in touch!

The cottage is really nicely done out with loads of character. The log burners made it feel very cosy on what was a very snowy weekend. It’s a very short walk from Castleton’s excellent local pubs and a number of excellent walks. Most importantly for us is the cottage was dog friendly as is Castleton. All in all a really lovely long weekend.

I think it might be worth the owners mentioning to any additional guests staying that cannot park outside the cottage itself that they don't park by the wall down the lane. Despite being told by the owners that this was ok & we parked as close to the wall as possible we still got a note from the council on the car telling us not to park there and the neighbour mentioned it to us swell. Apparently the refused collectors cannot get up the hill if a car is parked there. We wouldn't hesitate recommending this accommodation to anyone and look forward to coming back again

We didn't need to use the car in the evening to go out to eat as we could walk to all the pubs for an evening meal. There were 4 large TVs in the cottage, we felt a bit over the top as we only used the 1 in the lounge. The cottage was well equipped, beds comfortable, 1 parking space and a very good shower. The lou seat was very loose and this had been reported in the visitors book in August!! but not dealt with. 2 light bulbs out in the kitchen which we left a note about. We had a great week and would happily come back again perhaps in the summer when we would be able to make use of the back garden and the perfect view. A great place to finish a day off with a glass of wine.
