Castleton Cottages
For natural and historical wonders above and below ground,
unwind in one of our Castleton cottages nestling in the High
Peak's breathtaking Hope Valley. The setting is dramatic,
tucked snugly beneath Peveril Castle in the foothills of Mam Tor.
First stop at the Visitor Centre, where you'll find lots of
information, interactive displays and a small museum. Expect
fantastic walking, as well as rock climbing, mountain biking,
hang-gliding, pot-holing and more.
For unforgettable views, trek up to the imposing Norman castle,
protected by English Heritage, or climb the slopes of Mam Tor
crowned with an Iron Age hill fort. Walk the Pennine Way or enjoy
short, circular walks around the valley. If you're travelling
with children or need accessible routes, try the Castleton Geology
Trail or Historic Shopping Trail, with tearooms en-route offering
welcome refreshments.
Spectacular caves close to your Castleton cottage...
Castleton is home to four amazing show caves. The Peak Cavern
and ancient rope works sits in the village centre and boasts the
biggest entrance in Europe. On the slopes down from Mam Tor are
Treak Cliff Cavern, renowned for its Blue John Stone and
extraordinary stalagmites and stalactites, and Blue John Mine, the
deepest of them all and famous for its stone and extensive cave
system. At the foot of Winnats Pass is Speedwell Cavern, where you
can enjoy an exciting boat ride along an underground canal and peer
down a 'bottomless pit'!
Come evening, look forward to relaxing in your Castleton cottage
or treat yourself to a meal out in one of the village's
inviting pubs. Our Peak District
cottages are perfect for families, couples or
individuals, at any time of the year.
