  • "We have been staying at Gosfield Cottage for around 10 years and have always loved this beautiful little cottage, which is perfectly situated for both the high street and the beach."

We have enjoyed many lovely stays here, which is why it is disappointing to see that the property now needs some attention. There are a few maintenance issues that we feel the owners should be made aware of. The shower is leaking through the wall and down towards the kitchen sink when it is being used, there appears to be some rising damp near the fridge, and some of the kitchen units are beginning to deteriorate. We appreciate that these issues are not the owners’ fault, but they are important for them to know about so they can be addressed. Our main disappointment, however, was the management of the property during our stay. The external bins had not been emptied since our previous visit, resulting in an extremely unpleasant and persistent smell in the courtyard. We reported this to Sykes, but unfortunately nothing was done. As a result, we were unable to properly enjoy sitting in the courtyard, as the smell was putrid and there were flies everywhere. This significantly affected our enjoyment of the property. The cleanliness also fell below the standard we have experienced previously. Again, we appreciate that this is not the owners’ responsibility but that of Sykes. While the cottage was generally clean, there were numerous cobwebs, clumps of dust hanging from the radiators, and spiders and cobwebs in corners throughout the property. It gave the impression that the cleaning had been done to a minimum standard rather than with the level of care and attention we would expect. What was particularly disappointing was the lack of response from Sykes when we raised our concerns about the bins. We are still waiting for responses to some of our emails, and when we contacted Sykes directly by telephone, the call handler was unhelpful and lacked professionalism. The issues were neither resolved nor followed up appropriately. We genuinely love Gosfield Cottage and have returned for around 10 years because it is a property we enjoy and value. It is therefore unfortunate that the poor management and lack of response from Sykes spoiled what should otherwise have been another lovely week away. It is never pleasant to leave a negative review, particularly for a property we have enjoyed for so many years. However, the current management of Gosfield Cottage is letting the owners down. The level of service, communication and attention provided by Sykes does not reflect the quality of the property or the care that should be shown when managing someone else’s home.

  • "We love staying at Gosfield Cottage."

This was our second visit. It is ideally located for ambling around Aldeburgh and further afield. The cottage has everything we need for a comfortable stay and even remained quite cool in the recent heatwave. Our only issue was we missed bin day and it looked like previous occupants had too as the bins in the yard were full. Might be worth putting a reminder on the side of the fridge with the recycling information ?!

  • "What a beautiful cottage!"

Clean, well stocked and a wonderful location. We all enjoyed staying there, great for kids. We travelled as a family of 4 over bank holiday weekend, our kids (8 and 4) loved the beach, the board games and the house. Being BH, it did mean we had to park a few roads down, like plenty of others, but it wasn't an issue. The fish and chip shop over the road is recommended. Couldn't fault the cottage, the owners have thought of everything, down to the nice toiletries to cosy lounge. Thanks for great stay.

  • "Not clean, not well maintained."

Chair broke with a child sitting on it. Dangerous. General run down feel. Location is good, although the seagulls line up near the bins between the pub and the dish and chip shop. Convenient for shops, restaurants, sailing club etc. Could be lovely but lack of care and attention make it mediocre. For example there’s no table to work on in the sitting room (necessary as that’s where there’s WiFi)

  • "We really enjoyed Gosfield Cottage which is beautifully furnished and maintained."

..the outdoor space was perfect for morning coffee and the cottage itself steps from the Fish and Chip shop and a few more steps to Two Magpies. A perfect spot in what is still a charming relaxed town.

  • "Major problem with the heating boiler, despite an engineer coming it was erratic."

Coming on and off during the night and off in evenings. It was noisy in the main bedroom and woke us up. Not keen on the large plastic wineglasses. Cottage was handy for the town. Being the start of the Easter school break parking especially difficult and could not get permit. Liked the house and its quirkiness.

  • "We were very pleased with the quality of furnishings and equipment."

The cottage was also very clean. For two there was plenty of room but it would have been a squeeze for four adults. Second bedroom was tight. We enjoyed the artwork. Excellent location.

  • "Very good property in a nice location and very quiet."

Think the instructions for the operations of the boiler and the oven could be simplified, and some people with mobility issues could have a problem in the cottage. Overall very clean, tidy and well equipped.

  • "NOT DOG FRIENDLY , Although Gosfield cottage is lovely and an ideal location as the other 2 reviews from August state it is NOT DOG FRIENDLY!"

I telephoned Best of Suffolk to check twice after seeing each review appear in August as I had already booked and paid to stay in October. Both times I was told dogs are allowed in the lounge just not on the furniture which is fair. However on arrival there is a framed poster stating dogs must be kept in the kitchen at all times behind the stair gate ....I have taken a photo of said poster.

  • "A pretty cottage with a good sized lounge."

The shower is listed as over the bath. Not a problem I thought, but you cannot run any otter water at the same time, including flushing the loo! Fine for a couple but with teenagers more of a problem. We would consider rebooking as the rooms are large

  • "We had a lovely time."

The added extras (sponges, cleaning products, dishwashing tablets, handwash, tea, coffee etc) were really appreciated as at most places we have stayed we have had to buy or bring with us. Very comfy and clean house, plenty of room for the three of us. Our little girl liked the games we found in the cupboard. Great location! If we or anyone we know holiday at Aldeburgh we definitely recommend. Thank you :-)
