Just Show Me Hawes Cottages

What do cheese, ropes and pots have in common? All three are made locally in Hawes, capital of Upper Wensleydale at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. So when you book a cottage in Hawes, you can expect a few rather unusual attractions.

First stop, the Wensleydale Cheese Visitor Centre, where you can watch this wonderfully creamy cheese being handcrafted from local cows' milk. Next stop, the rope makers for an interesting look at handmade ropes, braids and cords, as well as clothes lines and dog leads. And on to Wensleydale Pottery to watch pots being thrown, decorated and glazed. But that's not all…

Exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park from Hawes

A cottage in Hawes is the ideal base from which to not only tour Wensleydale, but also Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Find your bearings around town following the Hawes Town Trail or Millennium Walk. Discover narrow, cobbled streets and a market square, brimming with colourful stalls on Tuesdays. Browse galleries and craft shops and enjoy refreshments in cosy tearooms. And when you fancy going further afield, don boots and binoculars and head out into the glorious countryside along the Pennine Way.

Learn all about the region, its people and its landscape at the award-winning Dales Countryside Museum, featuring a range of interactive displays and exhibitions. Or watch Victorian turbines, line-shafting and woodworking machinery at Gayle Mill.

Come evening, relax in your Hawes cottage or enjoy a bite to eat in one of the town's welcoming pubs or restaurants.
