Calling all vegans! We have compiled a collection of some of the best vegan offerings from UK Michelin star restaurants.

With the increasing popularity of veganism in recent years, it has become so much easier to find vegan items in supermarkets and high-street chains, answering to the rising demand.

But for those who enjoy the finer things in life, it’s taken a little longer to convince top chefs not to use any animal products in their dishes, especially outside of London. We’ve put together a list of six restaurants that can serve up cruelty-free food in the most creative of forms, with the finest ingredients.

Providing vegan Michelin star food in London, Pollen Street Social gained its one star within just six months of opening, stating on their website that they are ‘only as good as their ingredients’.

They pride themselves on creating excellent relationships with their suppliers to get the best produce possible. Offering vegan fine dining in the form of a vegan tasting menu, alongside regular and vegetarian menus, you can delight in dishes such as ‘braised broccoli stem, lemon puree, toasted almonds and seaweed’ and indulge in ‘70% chocolate, cherry sorbet and tofu ganache’ to finish.

Simpsons, Birmingham

Finding vegan Michelin star chefs in the UK isn’t easy, so when an informal restaurant selecting excellent seasonal ingredients to provide fantastic dishes offers a vegan sample menu, it’s worth visiting.

Simpsons has held one Michelin star since 2000 and can be found in the area of Edgbaston, not far from Birmingham city centre, a perfect place for any vegan to enjoy an enticing meal. Interesting combinations appear on their sample vegan dinner tasting menu, such as ‘barbecued celeriac, black garlic, hen of the woods and oxalis’.

The Star Inn, Harome, Yorkshire

In the quaint village of Harome on the edge of the North York Moors, you can find a traditional thatched inn, with history dating back to the 14th century, now home to one of the UK’s finest restaurants holding a Michelin star, among many other industry accolades.

Offering a separate vegan menu, as well as a vegan tasting menu they specialise in ‘modern Yorkshire food’, in their own words, with earthy dishes from their summer menus such as ‘Forager’s Broth of Wild Mushrooms, Hedgerow Roots, and Pickled Beets, Celeriac and Garden Herb Taco’, or enjoy a twist on a classic of ‘Lasagne of Blackened Aubergine, Roasted Heritage Tomato and Capers, Pimento Spiced Crust’.

HRiSHi, Windermere

Combining fantastic local Lake District produce with classic methods and innovation, this restaurant provides modern British cuisine from Hrishikesh Desai. He is the executive chef who earned HRiSHi at The Gilpin Hotel their Michelin star within a year of taking over.

Treat yourself to the plant-based tasting menu after a day of walks and the outdoors in beautiful Windermere, which features mains such as ‘King Edward potato and lemon gnocchi, glazed salsify, baby carrots, and pollichatthu sauce’, proving that top vegan cuisine can be found all over the UK.

Belmond Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons, Oxford

2 Michelin stars

Retaining their two Michelin stars since opening 35 years ago, it’s no surprise that this restaurant is under the wings of world-famous chef Raymond Blanc.  He has ensured that the Belmond Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons is one of the best restaurants in the UK and is a must-visit for many foodies the world over.

Set in the Oxfordshire countryside, complete with its own kitchen gardens, the restaurant can provide you with separate vegetarian and vegan dinner tasting menus, as well as lunch menus, never to shy away for a chance to experiment with a variety of flavours. Featured on the current vegan tasting menu, and one of seven courses, is ‘Spiced aubergine, chickpeas, cumin, & baba ganoush’.

Gidleigh Park, Chagford

Proving that vegan tasting menus can be found outside of London, Gidleigh Park is home to its own award-winning restaurant, where you can be amazed at the culinary creativity, now lead by executive head chef Chris Eden.

Enjoying a wonderful reputation as one of the finest country house hotels in Britain in the idyllic setting of Chagford in Devon, it has menus dedicated to the finest seasonal ingredients. Benefiting from an internationally renowned wine cellar, you can expect excellence from this establishment.

The website shows a vegetarian menu, but the restaurant will cater for a vegan diet with some prior notice, with one of the dishes currently on their vegan menu being ‘Heritage carrots, pickled endive, ironbark pumpkin, and toasted pistachio’, a dish which packs a flavourful punch.

Vegan à la carte menu £125 per guest on request, inclusive of teas, coffee and petit fours.
