  • “The cottage was well presented, clean and provided a good location for the whole island with it being central.”

The owner was extremely helpful and welcoming not only when we arrived but throughout the stay.

The owner was extremely helpful and welcoming not only when we arrived but throughout the stay. Ample walks from the cottage to nearby sights including the castle. Overall a very enjoyable stay and have no hesitation in recommending the cottage.

The property

Newport 2.3 miles.

The Cowshed is a sympathetically converted building situated in the small hamlet of Whitecroft, in the centre of the island between Carisbrooke and Gatcombe, on the Isle of Wight – there are fantastic bridleways and footpaths for walkers and cyclists right from your front door!

With direct access to the Shepherd’s Trail, the location is perfect for exploring the stunning countryside.

Stepping inside The Cowshed, you have a large, tiled lobby area, perfect for muddy boots and safe storage for bicycles.

There is a lovely open-plan living space, with a well equipped kitchen housing all the appliances you could need for a remote countryside break.

The living area has a range of seating with a TV and DVD player so you can keep up to date with all your favourite shows during your stay.

There is an adjacent dining area - a perfect spot for enjoying a delicious home-cooked meal, seating four people.

The interior offers a wealth of character with the exposed whitewashed stone walls and exposed beams, showing the lovely history this property has - with magnificent countryside views showcasing the rural location.

With all rooms on the ground floor, there are two bedrooms; one king-size and one twin, both housing a selection of contemporary furniture to house your personal items - with a family shower room featuring modern fixtures and fittings.

There is a separate WC and basin.

To the rear of the cottage, you will find a small raised deck area overlooking a natural pond and the orchard, ideal for sitting out with your morning cup of tea and later in the day, watching the sunset over Garston Down.

You may be lucky enough to see the resident red squirrels and a myriad of birds visiting the pond and garden.

If those bridleways don't take your fancy, then why not look towards the bustling town of Newport.

Newport has a range of high street stores, a good selection of eateries, an arts centre and a cinema.

The Isle of Wight is home to many historical sites; Carisbrooke Castle is a medieval motte-and-bailey castle and is less than 10 minutes’ drive away.

Being centrally sited Osborne House, the magnificent Roman Villa at Brading and the beautiful Mottistone Gardens are all close by.

For boating enthusiasts Cowes, Yarmouth and Bembridge offer a number of Sailing Clubs and the opportunity to both watch or participate in water based activities.

Beaches abound around the island and depending on your interests vary from child friendly Sandown for fun in the arcades and with a bucket and spade, or for long sandy walks you are spoilt for choice.

The Cowshed is the place to visit for its wonderful walks and sightseeing opportunities.

A car is recommended, although there is a bus stop less than 5 minutes’ walk (No 6 route).
